And the report suggests that Edinburgh in Scotland and the Cotswolds, England are stand out spots for exactly this. 'Edinburgh Scotland' and 'Edinburgh autumn' have risen in search, by 85 per cent and 103 per cent respectively. Then 'English countryside cottage' and 'Cotswolds outfit' have grown in search as well, by 814 per cent and 597 per cent respectively. So, maybe for your next trip you could don a tweed jacket in Scotland or snuggle into a cosy knitted jumper in the Cotswolds. Here's some of the top highlights from both destinations. Edinburgh, Scotland When you search 'Edinburgh autumn' on Pinterest, you'll be greeted by a sea of moody greys, beiges and warm oranges, with pictures of cosy corners in bookstores and cafes and cobbled alleyways littered with leaves. Edinburgh is often associated with autumn thanks to its windy weather and the colourful transformation of its tree-lined streets. It creates a dramatic backdrop for the historic architecture found in the Scottish capital, and of course, its towering castle. Visit the idyllic wine making centre of the Cotswolds There are many amazing historical spots to visit in the city, including Dean Village and the Old Town. Head along the Royal Mile to find warm and inviting pubs, including The World's End Tavern, which sits at the edge of the Old Town's walls and was known as the spot where visitors would 'end' their travels. Along the same stretch you will find a number of shops as well, many of which sell wool and cashmere clothing handmade locally. If you are looking for more independent businesses to explore, make sure to head down Victoria Street. 7 Edinburgh features amazing history and architecture, and you can also head up a dormant volcano Credit: Getty The long curving road is home to many unique shops, including a number of Harry Potter-related destinations (J.K. Rowling lived in the city and wrote in local cafes). Edinburgh is also home to the best spot for an autumnal walk via Arthur's Seat. While the climb up the dormant volcano isn't for the fainthearted, once at the top you get to see breathtaking views of both the city below and the sea. But perhaps do take a tweed jacket with you, as it gets rather windy at the top. As for places to stay, the city isn't short of options - including many top-rated hostels if you are on a tight budget. 7 In the Old Town there are many cute and charming pubs and cafes Credit: Getty Cotswolds, England Dropping down into south-central and south-west England, you'll reach another idyllic autumnal destination - the Cotswolds. The region is well-known for its charming villages with honey-coloured stone, creating the ideal backdrop to the trees as they change their colours. To truly see the seasonal transformation, head to Westonbirt Arboretum or Batsford Arboretum, which both become a sea of glowing oranges and warm browns in the autumn. Westonbirt Arboretum is also home to one of the largest collections of maple and acer trees in the world. 7 Arlington Row in the Cotswolds is a very popular spot featuring several cottages Credit: Getty Top spots among tourists include Bibury Village, which famous poet and designer William Morris dubbed as the prettiest in England. Visitors can explore the iconic Arlington Row - a set of 17th-century National Trust-owned weavers' cottages - which even appears on the inside cover of UK passports. The River Coln runs alongside the cottages, adding to the overall charm. Wherever you go in the region, you will find 'English countryside cottages', including historic pubs and hotels. 7 There is so much to do across the entire region, with many pretty villages to explore Credit: Getty For example, The Bell in Charlbury is housed in a 17th-century building that offers local brews as well as bedrooms upstairs with four-poster beds and enticing fireplaces. Or you could opt for a holiday cottage, many of which are dog friendly. Here is a more in-depth look at what you could get up to in the Scottish capital. And in the Cotswolds, there is a village with its own sandy beach and lagoon – miles from the English seaside.

The green transition has a surprising new home

Picture a country where renewables are being rapidly rolled out and electric-vehicle sales are surging, and you will probably have in mind somewhere smug and northern European; a place with tall people, coalition governments and a yen for cycling holidays. Or perhaps the first thing that pops into your head is the sheer scale of China, which manufactures the bulk of such equipment and last year contributed more than half of the global increase in solar and wind installation.

The Scottish city that is more expensive than Amsterdam for stag and hen dos

The Scottish city is in third place within the UK and eighth overall across Europe A Scottish city has been ranked among the costliest stag and hen party locations in the UK, with guests paying eye-watering sums that rival the cost of the wedding itself. ‌ A new report from wedding planning platform Bridebook reveals that attending a hen party in the Scottish capital can cost an average of £1,467 over a typical Friday-to-Monday trip. This puts Edinburgh in third place within the UK and eighth overall across Europe. Only London and Oxford ranked higher domestically. ‌ The study factored in accommodation, travel, food, drink, and activities. In Edinburgh, the biggest expense comes from accommodation, averaging £648 for a long weekend. ‌ Luxuries such as spa days (£200), hefty taxi fares (£235), and alcohol (£264) quickly drive costs up. For many guests, this means parting with nearly four per cent of their annual salary to attend a single pre-wedding celebration. Shockingly, the capital even outranks popular European hotspots such as Amsterdam and Mallorca, where flights are included in the costs. For stag parties, Edinburgh is scarcely cheaper. A three-night stay averages £1,248, making it the third priciest city in the UK and again eighth overall. Accommodation (£648) and transport (£235) remain the biggest drains, though cheaper activities, such as go-karting (£47), and slightly lower alcohol spending (£198) prevent the totals from matching the hen party costs. Friends of the groom still face parting with over three percent of their annual income to celebrate. Even Dublin, long considered a notoriously pricey stag and hen destination, comes in lower than Edinburgh. ‌ A weekend in the Irish capital averages £528 for accommodation, £218 for alcohol and £38 for flights, leaving it lagging behind Scotland's capital despite the added cost of travel. Hamish Shephard, founder of Bridebook, said the financial burden of pre-wedding events is becoming a serious concern for guests. ‌ 'For guests, hen and stag dos are often as big a financial commitment as the wedding itself, with many facing substantial costs just to attend. "With travel, accommodation and activities often falling on the wedding party, it's no wonder that some are spending nearly as much as the couple themselves!' 'It's important to remember that while weddings, including pre-wedding parties, are of course a celebration of love and friendship, couples should be mindful of the financial strain these events can place on their closest friends. "Clear communication and advance planning can help ensure guests aren't left feeling stretched by the cost of attending these celebrations, especially in overseas and urban locations.' Bridebook's 2025 Wedding Report also revealed that nearly half of stag and hen parties cover the cost for the bride or groom, yet guests are still left facing staggering bills that often run into the thousands.
