Yahoo02-04-2025

The Golden State Warriors' defensive anchor has earned some well-deserved hardware for his performance during the month of March. On Tuesday, veteran forward Draymond Green was named Defensive Player of the Month for the Western Conference.
During March, Green averaged 1.9 steals and 0.9 blocks for the Warriors. During March, Green has back-to-back games with five blocks and four blocks. Green has two or more steals in nine different games during the month.

According to a press release from the Warriors, Golden State led the NBA in steals during the month of March with 9.9 steals per contest while also posting the second-best defensive rating in the Western Conference at 109.7, trailing only the Oklahoma City Thunder.
March marked the first time Green has earned the NBA's new Defensive Player of the Month award. For the Eastern Conference, Atlanta Hawks wing Dyson Daniels earned Defensive Player of the Month.
Over his 12-year NBA campaign, Green has earned NBA All-Defensive Team honors eight different times and was named Defensive Player of the Year for the 2016-17 season.

Along with Cleveland's Evan Mobley and Atlanta's Daniels, Green is considered a candidate for the 2024-25 edition of the Defensive Player of the Year award. A newly-minted Defensive Player of the Month award should help bolster Green's already compelling DPOY campaign.

Joe Mazzulla's Blunt Message to Celtics Player Surfaces on Friday

Joe Mazzulla's Blunt Message to Celtics Player Surfaces on Friday originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Ever since he took over as the Boston Celtics head coach, Joe Mazzulla has run things his way. Even though the Celtics are coming off a second-round elimination, this has earned them their 18th title as a franchise. Advertisement Mazzula's coaching philosophy also includes his distrust of rookies. Celtics rookie Baylor Scheierman revealed as such when he first started playing under Mazzulla during the 2024-25 season. Scheierman ended the regular season with a fair amount of optimism surrounding his future. However, he starts his NBA career a little slow, as Mazzulla didn't really trusting him until the end of the season. Boston Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla.© Kirby Lee-Imagn Images As it turns out, Mazzulla let the Celtics rookie know how he felt about playing first-year players ahead of time. During an exclusive interview on "The Garden Report," Scheierman revealed a candid conversation with Mazzulla during the Celtics' training camp in 2024. Advertisement 'Listen, I don't really like rookies,' Mazzulla told Scheierman. 'So you're gonna have to battle this year, and that's kind of how it is. 'And I was like, 'alright, that's alright.'' For what it's worth, it's not unheard of that coaches are apprehensive about playing rookies. Especially ones that are coaching teams with title hopes. Scheierman clearly took Mazzulla's words to heart and tried to improve his game to prove himself. In due time, Mazzulla started giving him more time when the team was undermanned, and Scheierman thrived in it, showing his skills as a shooter and a passer. With Jayson Tatum out indefinitely, Scheierman's role might get even bigger next season. Is there a case to be made for hanging onto Boston Celtics big man Kristaps Porzingis?

Is there a case to be made for hanging onto Boston Celtics big man Kristaps Porzingis? The Latvian center has been the first player brought up as a potential trade chip in the Celtics likely quest to get under the second apron to avoid the harsh penalties created by the collective bargaining agreement (CBA) to break up expensive teams like Boston. But there are other ways to pull such a goal off besides trading away Porzingis for whatever the team can do it with, perhaps even requiring some assets to get off his deal despite it being a large expiring contract in a cap-starved league. What options does Boston have where they would not deal away KP before the end of the next NBA regular season? Advertisement The host of the CLNS Media "You Got Boston" podcast, Noa Dalzell, linked up with Spotrac cap guru Keith Smith to talk it over. Take a look at the clip embedded below to hear what they had to say about the case for hanging onto KP.
