Former Flyer Toumani Camara named to NBA All-Defensive Second Team
PORTLAND, Oregon (WDTN) – Former UD men's basketball forward Toumani Camara was named to the NBA All-Defensive Second Team on Thursday. The former Flyers star becomes the first Trail Blazers player to earn all-defensive honors in 21 years. The last to claim the award was Theo Ratliff in 2003-04. Camara received six first-team votes and 62 second-team votes in the selection process. After two seasons in Dayton, the 2023 second-round pick earned the honor in his second season with Portland. He led the NBA in charges drawn (31) and offensive fouls drawn (90). He ranked second in defensive stops (257) and ninth in steals (116). Camara was also the Western Conference Defensive Player of the Month and finished ninth in Defensive Player of the Year voting. The UD grad was a pivotal part of the Blazers' development, helping them improve from a 21-61 team to a 36-46 team. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Advertisement According to a press release from the Warriors, Golden State led the NBA in steals during the month of March with 9.9 steals per contest while also posting the second-best defensive rating in the Western Conference at 109.7, trailing only the Oklahoma City Thunder. March marked the first time Green has earned the NBA's new Defensive Player of the Month award. For the Eastern Conference, Atlanta Hawks wing Dyson Daniels earned Defensive Player of the Month. Over his 12-year NBA campaign, Green has earned NBA All-Defensive Team honors eight different times and was named Defensive Player of the Year for the 2016-17 season. Advertisement Along with Cleveland's Evan Mobley and Atlanta's Daniels, Green is considered a candidate for the 2024-25 edition of the Defensive Player of the Year award. A newly-minted Defensive Player of the Month award should help bolster Green's already compelling DPOY campaign. This post originally appeared on Warriors Wire! Follow us on Facebook and Twitter!
