Draymond Green named Western Conference's Defensive Player of the Month for March
The Golden State Warriors' defensive anchor has earned some well-deserved hardware for his performance during the month of March. On Tuesday, veteran forward Draymond Green was named Defensive Player of the Month for the Western Conference.
During March, Green averaged 1.9 steals and 0.9 blocks for the Warriors. During March, Green has back-to-back games with five blocks and four blocks. Green has two or more steals in nine different games during the month.
According to a press release from the Warriors, Golden State led the NBA in steals during the month of March with 9.9 steals per contest while also posting the second-best defensive rating in the Western Conference at 109.7, trailing only the Oklahoma City Thunder.
March marked the first time Green has earned the NBA's new Defensive Player of the Month award. For the Eastern Conference, Atlanta Hawks wing Dyson Daniels earned Defensive Player of the Month.
Over his 12-year NBA campaign, Green has earned NBA All-Defensive Team honors eight different times and was named Defensive Player of the Year for the 2016-17 season.
Along with Cleveland's Evan Mobley and Atlanta's Daniels, Green is considered a candidate for the 2024-25 edition of the Defensive Player of the Year award. A newly-minted Defensive Player of the Month award should help bolster Green's already compelling DPOY campaign.
