"Unjust, Irrational": AAP MP Amid Row Over Diljit Dosanjh's Sardaar Ji 3
An Aam Aadmi Party MP has come out in support of Punjabi actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh amid the ongoing controversy over his film Sardaar Ji 3, featuring Pakistani actress Hania Aamir. Dr Vikramjit Singh Sahney, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha), termed the backlash against the actor for working with Pakistani actress as "unjust, excessive, and irrational". The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has called for withdrawing Dosanjh's citizenship and banning his music in India. "To question Diljit Dosanjh's patriotism is grossly unfair," said Dr Sahney. "The film was shot long before the unfortunate incident in Pahalgam. Even an Indo-Pak cricket match was held during that period. We should not confuse timelines or motives when making a judgment on someone's actions." Dr Sahney appreciated Diljit's mature and compassionate move not to release the film in Indian cinemas, being sensitive to public opinion. "He has been gracious in deciding not to release the film here. That says a lot about his character and regard for national feelings," said the AAP leader. He also pointed out Diljit's lead role in showcasing Indian culture on the world stage, from Coachella to the Met Gala, stating that the artist wore his identity as a proud Indian and a proud Punjabi. "Rather than demonising him on the basis of disinformation, we should be hailing him as a cultural ambassador," added Dr Sahney. The casting of a Pakistani actress in the film has been criticised, particularly against the backdrop of government's post-attack restrictions on Pakistani artists' involvement in Indian entertainment. Diljit Dosanjh maintains that his movie, Sardaar Ji 3, was finalised much earlier than these geopolitical events. "When the film was made, the situation was fine... This film was shot in February. A lot of things happened after that which are not in our control," Diljit had said earlier. The film body, Federation of Western India Cine Employees, appealed to the government to blacklist Diljit Dosanjh and Sardaar Ji 3 makers. They also appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ensure that their passports are revoked, and their citizenship is cancelled.

Pakistan closes key border crossing with Afghanistan amid security threats
Pakistan has temporarily closed a key border crossing with Afghanistan due to security threats, until further notice, officials said on Sunday. The Ghulam Khan border has been closed after Saturday's suicide attack in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's North Waziristan district and skirmishes in the province, bordering Afghanistan, a senior Pakistani security official said. "Following the attack, a curfew has been imposed in North Waziristan, and the border (Ghulam Khan) has been shut down for an unspecified period, he said. At least 13 security personnel were killed and three others injured in the suicide attack. Abidullah Farooqi, spokesperson for the Interim Afghan Government's Border Forces, confirmed the closure on Sunday, stating that Pakistani authorities have not provided a clear explanation for the move. Pakistani officials have merely instructed vehicles at the crossing to use alternative routes, Farooqi said in a statement. In a separate press release, the provincial administration of Khost province of Afghanistan said officials at the Ghulam Khan crossing were informed by Pakistani authorities on Saturday evening that the route would be temporarily closed due to ongoing security threats. The statement further noted that no specific timeline has been provided for the reopening of the border, and the closure will remain in effect until further notice. The Ghulam Khan crossing, located in Khost province, is a critical trade and transit point between the two countries, particularly for goods travelling to and from Pakistan's North Waziristan region. Afghan authorities have urged citizens, traders, and travellers to avoid the route and instead use other crossings, such as Torkham or Spin Boldak, until the situation is resolved.

Assam's mega football tourney receives boost as PM Modi mentions it in Mann Ki Baat
Guwahati, June 29 (UNI) The much hyped football tournament Bodoland Chief Executive Member Cup Football Tournament got a much needed boost on Sunday as Prime Minister Narendra Modi mentioned it during his 124th Mann Ki Baat radio address. The Bodoland CEM Cup Tournament 2025 is a football event started by the BTR Government with a total budget allocation of Rs 6.44 crore, the event aims to bring positive change in society through sports. The agenda is to promote peace, unity, and community involvement. It also helps to find and support young football talent across Bodoland. Terming the tourney as a welcome development to strengthen ties between the communities in Bodoland, the PM on Sunday said that the tournament also signifies how things are changing in Bodoland. "The Bodoland region used to be known for conflicts alone in the past. However, the enthusiasm of the people, particularly the youth of the Bodoland has given a new identity to the region now," the PM said. He added that numerous players from the Bodo heartland including Holicharan Narzary, Durga Boro etc have also encouraged young people across the country to dream. It may be mentioned here that the CEM Cup, organised by the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), aims to promote peace, youth engagement, and grassroots football development in an area once marked by unrest. The tournament is organized at multiple administrative levels-including Village Council Development Committees (VCDCs), BTCLA Constituencies, Districts, and the Council Level- ensuring widespread participation and accessibility. This allows communities from the most remote villages to engage in organized sports and brings together football clubs from across the region, providing a platform for athletes to showcase their talents and for communities to engage in a shared cultural experience. Assam Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had recently conveyed his best wishes to all the players for the Bodoland CEM Cup 2025 and said that sports is an excellent medium to develop the youth and channelise their energy in a better way through tournaments like this.
