Prince William is frequently recognised as one of the most popular members of the Royal Family, having meticulously cultivated an image of a modern man who balances his roles as a father and husband with his public duties.
He and Kate Middleton are currently the most influential royal couple, earning widespread acclaim for their parenting approach with their children, Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, seven, largely kept out of the public eye.
However, behind closed doors, William has been accused of not being as dedicated to his responsibilities as he could be.
Even prior to Kate's cancer diagnosis, the royal engagement league tables raised questions, with both consistently trailing behind older members of The Firm.
While figures like Princess Anne and the King seldom take a day off, William has reportedly frustrated Palace staff with his reluctance towards official engagements, particularly those outside the UK.
Despite 2024 being an exceptionally challenging year for the Prince, courtiers noted that he still managed to enjoy trips to Germany for the European Championships, and South Africa for his Earthshot prize, despite declining to undertake royal visits.

It was reported that last month, King Charles had to assert his authority and instruct a hesitant William to attend Pope Francis' funeral in Rome.
William's perceived lack of work ethic was highlighted in a recent New York Times article discussing the family's feud with Prince Harry. Experts suggest that he is attempting to discard this image by crafting a new one, reports the Scottish Daily Express.
Historian Ed Owens said that William was "burnishing his reputation as a statesman". He added: "William has sometimes been seen as work-shy, but we see him gravitating toward bigger, more media-friendly events."

Whilst William's public appearances are less frequent compared to his father, they have been significant in recent months.
In December of the previous year, he attended the reopening of Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris, an occasion which allowed him to spend time with US President Donald Trump.
Despite his visit to the Vatican being under duress, according to insiders, it was another major global event where William was present. The cancer diagnosis of King Charles has shifted focus towards the future of the monarchy.
Mark Landler, the London bureau chief for the NYT, observes that the "job that William does not want, at least for now, is his father's" However, he notes that "fears over the king's health have made talk of succession inescapable".

David Beckham to guest edit edition of Country Life Magazine

David Beckham will guest edit an edition of Country Life Magazine to mark his 50th birthday year. The former England captain and businessman will join the editorial team for the October 22nd edition of the magazine with the aim of celebrating what the countryside means to him and his family. Advertisement He follows in the footsteps of British royal family members who previously joined the editor-in chief Mark Hedges at the helm, including King Charles, Princess Anne and Queen Camilla. David Beckham and Mark Hedges (Editor-in-Chief of Country Life Magazine) photographed at RHS Chelsea Flower Show (Courtney Hockley/Country Life magazine/PA) Beckham said: 'I am honoured to have been invited to guest edit an edition of a magazine that I have always admired and read. 'I am really looking forward to working with the editorial team to produce an issue that will celebrate what the countryside and the great British landscape means to me and my family.' This comes as Beckham is to be awarded a knighthood in the Charles' Birthday Honours, according to reports by The Sun. Advertisement The football star regularly documents his life in the countryside by posting pictures and videos on his Instagram including him harvesting vegetables, gardening and his flock of chickens. Mark Hedges, Country Life editor-in-chief, said: 'I know he has a deep love of the countryside, which has grown since he retired as a professional footballer, although he is, of course, still extremely busy as a businessman and an ambassador for a host of causes, such as Unicef and The King's Foundation, as well as being co-owner of Inter Miami CF in the US and Salford City Football Club in the UK. David Beckham turns 50 this year (Victoria Jones/PA) 'As someone who is passionate about the countryside, I'm excited to see what his special commemorative issue will bring.' The one-off edition aims to highlight how the countryside has played an important part in Beckham's life. Advertisement It will feature his favourite view, his best-loved recipe and spotlight his rural champions, including the craftsmen and woman who helped shape his home in the Cotswolds. Beckham, who played for his country 115 times, is the only Englishman to score at three different World Cups and his career included the treble-winning campaign of 1998-99, when Manchester United won the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League. He earned the third highest number of England caps of all time for the men's team, and was captain on 59 occasions. The former winger married Spice Girl Victoria, also known as Posh Spice, in 1999. Celtic and TV stars back bid for statue of Lisbon Lion

The Tommy Gemmell Community Project is raising funds for a bronze statue of the footballing icon to be placed in his hometown. Tommy scored the first goal in Celtic's victory, which secured the team affectionately known as the Lisbon Lions the 1967 Champions League trophy. The statue would be placed in Craigneuk, where he grew up and lived when he first signed for Celtic at the age of 16. His family, including his widow, Mary Gemmell, are part of the project, and she told us how "important" it is to have the "special" man honoured there. Celtic and TV stars back bid for statue of Lisbon Lion (Image: SNS Images) Scottish actor and proud Celtic fan Martin Compston has given his support to the bid for the statue, describing Tommy as "one of Scotland's greatest ever players" and also "one of our greatest characters too." READ MORE: Statue of Lisbon Lion bid backed by Celtic legend's family His support is joined by fellow actor Tony Roper, who shared a touching tribute to Tommy while sharing a story about him having hidden talents. Tony tells the tale of being in Barcelona with their partners and going to an Argentinian steakhouse. After eating, they're treated to entertainment from Argentinian Tango dancers who dazzle them with a complicated routine. Once they're finished, he explains that Tommy got up to dance with Tony's wife, Isabella, who had been a dancer for most of her life. Tommy then perfectly executes the technical dance routine, and Tony said, "he was sensational." Tony finishes his story with a plea, he asked: "If you don't think a world-class footballer, who could do the Argentinian tango perfectly without breaking his partner's feet and also came from Craigneuk, doesn't deserve a statue there, I don't know what you need to do?" READ MORE: READ MORE: WATCH: Tommy Gemmell's two European Cup final goals for Celtic A long list of Celtic legends, including John Hartson, James Forrest, and Daizen Maeda, have supported the cause. John Hartson spoke of the "wonderful man" and "great player" and how he was "privileged to meet him a few times." READ MORE: Fans gather at Celtic Park to pay tribute to Lisbon Lion Tommy Gemmell Forrest and Maeda were videoed in their cars with t-shirts created by the project, which read 'Lisbon 1967 Gemmell Craigneuk', and both share the message 'support the Tommy Gemmell Community Project.' We spoke with Tommy's widow, Mary Gemmell, about the project. Mary, who's a "very young 73", said: "The statue is the main focus right now, but the idea behind it being a community project is that we want it to be so much more than a statue. "Tommy was so proud of where he came from and was such a believer in helping people however he could - he went to every charity event he could. "So to have his legacy be helping the whole community would be special for such a special man." Mary Gemmell with some of the community project team (Image: Supplied) The initial target would see the statue made by world-famous sculptor Andy Edwards. His work includes statues of the Beatles and football legends like Sir Alex Ferguson, Brian Clough, and Peter Taylor. Further money raised would go towards helping the Craigneuk community. The team project has a few events lined up, with a dinner dubbed an evening with John Hartson and special guests at Dalziel Park Hotel on August 15, and a golf day organised for September 5th. Harry's 'biggest hint' of return to royal fold leaves critics 'bewildered'

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, Duke and Duchess of Sussex, gave up public royal duties five years ago and much of what they have said and done since has shocked sources close to The Firm A fresh indication Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could return to the public duties - the "biggest hint yet" - has reportedly left royal sources "utterly bewildered". Much of what the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have said and done since they quit public duties five years ago is said to have astonished members of the Royal Household. These include their accusations of racism against unnamed members of the family and Meghan's recent posting of a video which showed her "twerking" in the maternity ward before the birth of Lillibet. ‌ Now sources close to the Sussexes have disclosed details about passport applications for both Prince Archie, six, and four-year-old Princess Lilibet. It is thought the applications include the titles HRH (His /Her Royal Highness) as well as the surname Sussex, and this is reportedly because Harry and Meghan want their kids to decide for themselves whether they want to become working royals, or stay out of public life when they get older. ‌ This has been seen by some insiders as "the biggest hint" the Duke and Duchess may want to return to The Firm. Richard Eden, a royal reporter with the Daily Mail, writes in today's edition: "The suggestion gives the biggest hint yet that they're hoping to mend fences. "And it raises the question: Could the Sussexes, who chose to give up boring old public duties to seek their fortune in the US, stage a return to the royal fold via their children?" The original revelation was reported in The Guardian last week. The newspaper read: "The Guardian understands that Prince Harry wants to keep the HRH titles for his children so that when they grow older they can decide for themselves whether they want to become working royals, or stay out of public life." Insiders have reacted with shock and scepticism, following Harry and Meghan's exploits and bombshells since moving to the US. Mr Eden writes: "'I find this very hard to understand,' one royal source told me this week... 'Harry and Meghan apparently found official duties and life within the Royal Family unbearable, yet they want this for their children. It doesn't make sense.' "It's true that the Sussexes have devoted much time and energy to publicising their unhappiness with royal life. It's hard to forget Harry's grin on a video as he described their 'freedom flight' to Los Angeles when they began their American adventure in 2020." Meghan last week spoke about possibly running a company with her daughter, Lilibet, in the future. However, a source recently told PEOPLE that Meghan is focused on the future and is "very business about it" while Harry reportedly has "one foot in the past".
