Kentwood social worker accused of trying to send explicit image to student
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A Kentwood Public Schools social worker accused of inappropriate communication with multiple children has been charged with two felonies.
Dequindre Wiggins, 26, was arraigned Friday on charges of accosting children for immoral purposes and using a computer to commit a crime.
School social worker arrested for 'inappropriate' contact
Investigators say that earlier this month, a parent came forward to report the inappropriate communication. Court records allege Wiggins tried to send a student an explicit photo through Snapchat.
While investigating, the school resource officer discovered that Wiggins had additional contact with other children online, the Kent County Sheriff's Office previously said.
Wiggins was arrested in Lexington, Kentucky, on May 21 and had to be brought back to Michigan to face charges. At arraignment, his bond was set at $20,000. He's expected back in court for hearings June 11 and June 18.

A Florida middle school teacher allegedly sent a nude image of herself to a 14-year-old student, authorities said. Oliver Fell, 28, who taught at Carlos E. Haile Middle School in Brandenton, is charged with lewd conduct with a student by an authority figure and transmission of harmful material to a minor, the Manatee County Sheriff's Office said. Investigators launched a probe in March after the student reported the allegations on March 3 to a school resource deputy that Fell had been allegedly talking with the boy via Snapchat since December 2024. She allegedly sent an explicit photo of her breasts to the student on Jan. 2. The allegations were reported to the School District of Manatee County and the sheriff's office. "After obtaining a search warrant and receiving permission to access data from phones and social media accounts, detectives discovered evidence indicating that the communications led to lewd conduct involving the victim," the sheriff's office said. Fell turned herself in to authorities on Monday after a warrant was issued for her arrest. She remains in custody on a $2,500 bond. Irene Nikitopoulos, the principal at Carlos E. Haile Middle School, acknowledged the matter in a letter to parents. She said it "took several weeks of investigation to confirm the allegations of the illegal communications" and that Fell was reassigned. She said the district continues to cooperate with the investigation. Fox News Digital has reached out to the school district.

Victims from Miami's restaurant shooting encouraged to seek assistance from Victims Compensation Program
MIAMI, Okla. — Ottawa County District Attorney Doug Pewitt is offering individuals affected by a recent shooting at a Miami restaurant resources through the state's Crime Victims Compensation Program. 'People who may have been impacted by the May 31 active shooter situation at Mia Bella Italian Kitchen may be eligible for assistance through the Oklahoma Crime Victims Compensation Program,' said Pewitt. The state program covers unreimbursed expenses related to the crime, including medical, dental, and prescription costs, counseling and rehabilitation services, traditional healing, crime scene cleanup, work loss, services replacement, and mileage reimbursement for mental and medical appointments. The alleged shooter, Michael Anthony Cook III, 25, is charged in Ottawa County District Court in Miami with discharging a firearm into a dwelling, felony pointing a firearm, and two counts of shooting with intent to kill. He remains hospitalized after a shootout with Miami police, according to an arrest affidavit.
