Troy woman reunites with stolen French Bulldog after police sting
The Brief
A dog belonging to a Troy resident who went missing found her dog being sold on social media.
Lindsey and the good Samaritan went to the Troy Police Department to file a report.
The suspect was arrested.
TROY, Mich. (FOX 2) - When Troy resident Lindsey Williams realized her French Bulldog was missing, the family was devastated.
What she did not know was that a good Samaritan had found her dog and posted his picture on social media to help return him to his owner, but a bad actor got in the way.
"Someone claiming to be the owner reached out to them and said, 'That's my dog,'" said Troy police Sgt. Ben Hancock.

That man was Malik Motley, who is accused of taking the dog and posting it on social media for sale for $500.
"I was honestly," Williams said. "Because most people don't try to sell dogs like him."
Lindsey and the good Samaritan went to the Troy Police Department to file a report. Lindsey also decided to pose as a person wanting to buy her dog back.
"And they set up a meet right here next door at the Children's Hospital to purchase the dog," Hancock said.
What the suspect did not know was that the police were watching and ready to intervene.
"We had officers dispatched over there. They pulled up, and there was the suspect and the person's dog," said Hancock.
Motley was then arrested.
"He was charged with larceny of $1,000 to $20,000, which is a felony," said Hancock.
Lindsey is just happy to have Fats back where he belongs.

Woman sentenced to jail after unrestrained son dies in crash
The Brief The mother of a 4-year-old killed in a crash in May, 2024. has been sentenced. Her son was not restrained in the vehicle, which she was driving knowingly on bad brakes. Shaniqua Baskin, who did not have a valid license, also failed a sobriety test at the scene of the crash. DETROIT (FOX 2) - A 4-year-old boy was killed in a car crash after not being properly restrained and being ejected from the vehicle. His mother, a distraught Shaniqua Baskin, was in a Detroit courtroom on Monday morning to face the judge. "I love my kids to death, I would never have imagined on May 6th, 2024, I would have lost my 4-year-old biological son that I carried and pray for, to be gone so soon," she said. Baskin was sentenced to three years probation with the first six months to be served behind bars at the Wayne County Jail. She pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter. The backstory On May 6th, 2024, her 4-year-old son Ja'quavious was killed in the crash. Investigators say Baskin knowingly drove her car with brakes that weren't working properly when she crossed over the median on I-75 near I-94 in Detroit and hit another car. Her son was ejected, with his body found lying on the highway when Michigan State Police arrived. "To my kids I apologize, I used my whole tax refund to purchase this vehicle," she said. "Now I have lost everything, not just my son. I lost my house, my job. I failed my GED test." At the scene Baskin — who didn't have a driver's license — failed a field sobriety test. But at a vigil for her son just days later, she denied drinking when speaking to FOX 2. "My child on the ground, of course I can't walk a straight line - I barely can breathe," she said at time. "Anybody who knows Shaniqua, they know Shaniqua doesn't drink at all." Results of her blood alcohol tests were never made public — her attorney addressed the judge before sentencing. "She'll survive this because you don't get over it, but you learn to live with it, just like the death of any other family member," her attorney said. Missouri man crashes into Michigan State Police vehicle while under influence of drugs
The Brief An MSP trooper had someone pulled over on I-94 in Southwest Michigan when their vehicle was hit by a driver under the influence of drugs. The Missouri man was arrested. No injuries were reported. BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. (FOX 2) - Police say a man from Missouri was under the influence of drugs when he crashed into a Michigan State Police vehicle during a traffic stop Sunday night. According to MSP, a trooper had a vehicle pulled over on westbound I-94 near Mile Marker 25 in Berrian County's Lincoln Township when a man veered off the road and hit the patrol vehicle around 11:10 p.m. The trooper was standing outside the vehicle and was not hurt. No one else was injured, either, police said. Police discovered the 33-year-old suspect was under the influence of drugs and was arrested. Dig deeper Police said this is the second crash involving an MSP vehicle in the district, which encompasses Southwest Michigan, in a week. Michigan's Move Over law requires drivers to slow down and move over for police, fire, EMS, and road service workers, including tow trucks and MDOT courtesy vehicles that have their emergency lights activated.
