Tennessee man jailed following I-65 shooting incident

Yahoo2 days ago

Jun. 1—ATHENS — A Tennessee man was in Limestone County Jail on Sunday after his arrest following a shooting incident Saturday on Interstate 65.
The Limestone County Sheriff's Office said a 911 caller reported Saturday that a man on a motorcycle fired shots at him and his family while they were traveling north on I-65 in the area of mile marker 347. The gunfire struck the victim's vehicle, endangering the lives of the occupants, the Sheriff's Office said.
An alert was issued, and troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency located the motorcyclist about 10 miles from the incident scene. Limestone County deputies responded to assist with the traffic stop and identified the suspect as Jason Jermain Johnson, 30, of Centerville, Tennessee, the office said.
The Sheriff's Office alleges that during the arrest, Johnson was found to be in possession of a loaded pistol with two additional loaded magazines and was wearing a bullet-resistant vest beneath an Outcast Motorcycle Club vest.
Johnson was charged with shooting into an occupied vehicle and three counts of attempted murder, and he remained jailed Sunday with bail not set pending an Aniah's Law hearing, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Mike Johnson Goes After Musk for Mega Bill Meltdown

House Speaker Mike Johnson said he was let down by Elon Musk's bombshell rebuke of the Trump administration's signature legislation as lawmakers swiftly took sides on the debate. Speaking to reporters on Capitol Hill Tuesday, Johnson launched into a defense of President Donald Trump's 'One, Big, Beautiful Bill' after the recently departed DOGE chief branded it a 'disgusting abomination' that would 'massively increase' the budget deficit. 'Let me say this: It's very disappointing,' Johnson said of Musk's comments. 'I've come to consider Elon a good friend. He's obviously a very intelligent person, and he's done a lot of great work… But with all due respect, my friend Elon is terribly wrong.' Johnson maintained that the mega bill delivers on Trump's campaign promise of putting America first and saves the government more than $1.6 trillion—despite analyses from nonpartisan organizations like the Congressional Budget Office and the Penn-Wharton Budget Model estimating that the measure would cause the deficit to soar by about $4 trillion. The House Speaker said he and Musk spoke at length over the phone on Monday to discuss the bill, which the tech mogul blasted in an earlier interview with CBS News. 'I extolled all the virtues of the bill, and he seemed to understand that,' Johnson said. 'We had a very friendly conversation about it.' Musk has become increasingly vocal about his opposition to the bill since leaving the Trump administration. He told CBS last week that the measure 'undermines the work that the DOGE team is doing,' and wrote in X posts on Tuesday that the 'massive, outrageous, pork-filled' legislation would 'burden American citizens with crushingly unsustainable debt.' 'I'm sorry, but I just can't stand it anymore,' he said. 'Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it.' House Republicans narrowly passed the bill last month in a 215 to 214 vote, with all Democrats uniting against what they described as a giveaway to billionaires at the expense of vulnerable American families. Musk's comments divided GOP lawmakers and appeared to unite Democrats. Four Republican senators were exasperated when they spoke to Politico about Musk's latest jab. North Carolina Sen. Thom Tillis said Musk was 'entitled to his opinion,' while North Dakota Sen. Kevin Cramer said: 'I like Elon Musk, but he's one man.' Missouri Sen. Eric Schmitt and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz said lawmakers would continue to work on the measure. 'We need spending reductions, no doubt,' Schmitt said. 'I think the Senate should make the bill substantially better, and I hope and believe we'll do that,' Cruz added. Several other Republicans joined their Democratic colleagues in agreeing with Musk's take. 'I agree with Elon,' Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul said on X. 'We have both seen the massive waste in government spending and we know another $5 trillion in debt is a huge mistake. We can and must do better.' Utah Sen. Mike Lee wrote in a reply to Musk's post that 'the Senate must make this bill better.' Florida Rep. Anna Paulina Luna threatened to withhold votes if the bill fails to codify the sweeping cuts made by DOGE. 'NO CODIFY VOTES? Then guess what: NO VOTES,' she said. 'Half the reason GOP took the majority is because of Trump and Elon and now they are too scared to codify!' Several Democrats, led by Sen. Chuck Schumer and Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, echoed Musk's scathing criticism of the bill. 'If even Elon Musk, who's been part of the whole process and is Trump's buddy, says the bill is bad, you can imagine how bad this bill is,' Schumer told reporters. 'Musk said people shouldn't vote for the bill. Let's hope the Republicans follow him, not Trump.' 'Breaking news: Elon Musk and I agree with each other,' Jeffries said in a press conference. 'The GOP tax scam is a disgusting abomination.' Independent Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders similarly agreed with Musk. 'Musk is right,' he said on X. 'Let's defeat this disgusting abomination.'

Steelers Rookie RB Kaleb Johnson Puts Doubters on Notice: ‘Last Time I Checked, I Hit 22 MPH'

Pittsburgh Steelers rookie running back Kaleb Johnson sends a warning to those who are doubting his speed. PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Steelers third-round rookie running back Kaleb Johnson fell down draft boards after running a 4.57-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine. He's heard the noise and has a warning for those who want to continue doubting his speed. Advertisement 'My catching ability, my route running, really my speed,' Johnson said of what goes unnoticed in his game. 'Last time I checked, I hit 22 miles per hour.' Johnson is a bigger back, standing at 6-foot-1, 224 pounds. But he has proven to be more than capable of breaking off big runs during his three years at Iowa. Last season, he reached 22 miles per hour per GPS measurements on field, which translates to a 40-yard dash in the 4.3s. Only a handful of NFL players have hit 22 mph, including new Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf, and nobody is questioning his speed. Johnson has the production to back it up, too. He had a breakout season in 2024, rushing for a career-high 1,537 yards (6.4 yards per carry) and 21 touchdowns. He also recorded 22 catches for 188 yards and two more scores. Kaleb Johnson, Iowa Athletics The only question now is if Johnson can translate his play to the next level. However, he seems to have a good chance of doing just that as a workout freak. Advertisement The 21-year-old is simply focused on getting better every day, and that includes picking the brains of the other veterans in the room. 'Getting better one percent every day, learning from some of the older people like Jaylen Warren and Kenny Gainwell,' Johnson said. 'I'm excited to keep working.' Pittsburgh Steelers' Cameron Heyward Takes Shot at Raiders' Offensive Anchor Jackson Powers-Johnson

Pittsburgh Steelers' Cameron Heyward Takes Shot at Raiders' Offensive Anchor Jackson Powers-Johnson originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Pittsburgh Steelers captain and defensive standout Cameron Heyward is stuck in a childish war of words of sorts. Advertisement The Steelers star is entering his 15th season in 2025, while Las Vegas Raiders offensive lineman Jackson Powers-Johnson will embark on just his second. During an appearance on his teammate Maxx Crosby's "The Rush" podcast, Powers-Johnson described his "Welcome to the NFL" moment in his rookie season. He said it stems from a Week 6 matchup between Pittsburgh and Las Vegas. "I'd say playing against Cam Heyward and giving up my first sack ... ever ... in my entire life," Powers-Johnson said. "I would have to say that. He didn't beat me, I beat myself. I beat myself, I overset. And he got me, and said some choice words after, and I really hope he comes back for another year. That's all I'm gonna say." Heyward took to his own podcast, "Not Just Football," to provide the proverbial slap back to reality for Powers-Johnson. Advertisement "Hey man, I was close a lot of times. I just, you know, I delivered the baby at that moment," Heyward said. "I don't remember what I said. You know, I tend to black out in those moments, but that wasn't the only time he got beat. I'm gonna be honest. "I'm gonna be honest too, this is the other thing," Heyward said. "He's saying this, and we don't even have him scheduled this year. That's kind of funny. So now you're talking stuff when you had all this time to even bring this up." It was one of just two sacks that the former Oregon Ducks offensive lineman gave up last season during his rookie campaign. And the fact that he wants another shot at Heyward is admirable, but it won't happen in 2025 unless one of them is traded to another team. The Steelers and Raiders aren't on each other's schedule next season. So we may have to wait a while before we see how this thing ends.
