Upstate city investigates recent string of car break-ins
CLINTON, S.C. (WSPA) – Police in one Upstate city are warning residents to lock their cars after a string of vehicle break-ins.
The Clinton Police Department said there have been vehicle break-ins throughout the Clinton area.
Surveillance video shared by the police department show suspects checking for unlocked vehicle doors.
Police said the suspects have been stealing guns and other personal belongings from unlocked cars.
'We are increasing patrols in an effort to locate and apprehend those responsible,' said Michael Addison, chief of police for Clinton. 'We're also asking for the community's help in identifying the suspects and urge all residents to participate in the 9 p.m. routine.'
According to the department, the 9 p.m. routine is an initiative to get residents to take steps to prevent crime.
The steps include locking vehicles, homes, garages, windows, gates, and sheds, activating exterior lights, security cameras, and alarm systems, and removing valuables from cars, patios, and yards.

One man dead, another hurt in double shooting on Detroit's east side
Detroit police are investigating after one man died and another was hurt Tuesday night in a double shooting. Police say that just before 10:30 p.m., they received a Shotspotter alert at Coram Street and Rex Avenue. Responding officers encountered one of the victims, who directed them to a home where they located the other victim on the ground. The victim on the ground was pronounced dead at the scene. The other victim was taken to the hospital and was listed in critical condition. Police say the shooting appeared to stem from a domestic situation. Summer program gives free meals to South Carolina students
SOUTH CAROLINA (WSPA) — Students across the state will have access to free meals throughout the summer, thanks to the Summer Break Café and the Seamless Summer Option programs. The programs, according to the South Carolina Department of Education, is a federally-funded effort to ensure that low-income children can receive meals and snacks during the summer break. 'Summer meals are one of the most vital ways we support South Carolina students year-round,' said State Superintendent of Education Ellen Weaver. Greenville Co. Schools offering free breakfast, lunch to children this summer The programs run from June to August and is being offered at multiple sites throughout the Upstate. More than 1,200 sites, including schools, libraries, parks, churches and community centers will serve breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks. Officials said that meals and serving times vary by location. Certain sites will also offer grab-and-go meals. 'We are incredibly grateful to the school districts and local partners who will work tirelessly to ensure no child goes without a meal this summer,' Weaver added. 'Summer Break Café offers more than nutrition: it provides partnership and peace of mind for struggling families. The result is stronger communities and a brighter, healthier future for our young people.' Gwinnett police seek suspect in Norcross shooting
Detectives are asking for the public's help in identifying a suspect they say was involved in a Norcross shooting back in April. Authorities say a suspect fired multiple shots at a blue Hyundai Elantra at about 1 p.m. April 10. The Elantra was leaving the area of 5615 Singleton Road. No injuries were reported as a result of the gunfire. The suspect is described as a male with medium-length hair, standing about 5 feet, 6 inches to 5 feet, 9 inches tall and weighing around 200 pounds. At the time of the shooting, the suspect was wearing a pink hoodie, white shorts, white shoes and carrying a gray bookbag.
