Pawan Kalyan gets objectifying lyrics changed in Hari Hara Veera Mallu ‘item' song; internet questions why it's there
A press meet was held in Hyderabad on Wednesday to promote Krish and AM Jyothi Krishna's upcoming film Hari Hara Veera Mallu. Music composer MM Keeravaani spoke about how Pawan Kalyan, the lead actor of the film and Deputy CM of Andhra Pradesh, got objectifying lyrics changed in an 'item song'. Keeravaani spoke about Pawan at the event and said, 'I believe the story of Hari Hara Veera Mallu is a perfect fit for Pawan Kalyan, who fights against injustice. He has the kind of fire that cannot be drenched by rain.'
He then revealed that the film has a special number, and it was tweaked because Pawan raised objections to the objectifying lyrics, 'There is an item song in this film called Tara Tara. We all know how the lyrics in item songs go even further than romantic numbers. There were some lyrics we had written, some of which were done keeping him in mind. But he said, no, I am in a position of responsibility now, so you need to redo them.'
Pawan's fans lauded him for the move, leaving comments like, 'Great,' and 'Maa anna bangaram (Our brother is gold).' Some blamed Keeravaani for including the song in the film, 'First ne thrlivi em aindi alanti movie lo item song avasarama? (What happened to your sense first, why does a film like that have an item song?)'
Another wrote, 'Ayana dcm ani miku teliyada siggu lekunda items songs buthulu ela rastaru (Despite knowing he's the DCM, how do you write objectionable lyrics in item songs?)' Some wondered why Pawan didn't remove the song in the first place, 'Lyrics Thiyyamannadu Kaani Song Teeseyamani analedhu Maa Goppa Sainyani. (Our great Senani asked them to move the lyrics but not the song)' Another questioned, 'Asalu item song enduku petanichadu? (Why did he allow an item song in the first place?)'
HHVM tells the story of a legendary outlaw who fights against injustice. Bobby Deol, Nidhhi Agerwal, Nargis Fakhri, and Nora Fatehi also star in the film, which will be released in theatres on 12 June.

While this can provide a powerful launchpad, it often comes with the risk of diminishing their box-office appeal. The latest to face this conundrum are top southern movie stars Vijay, who launched a political party in February to contest next year's Tamil Nadu assembly polls, and Pawan Kalyan, who is serving as deputy chief minister of Andhra Pradesh. Their films are slated for release in the coming months, but trade experts warn of muted box-office performance, as they may no longer enjoy the universal appeal that transcended political ideologies. The past record of multiple actors-turned-politicians shows that a broad section of audiences begins to feel alienated, as film stars start catering to a target vote bank following their political plunge, experts said. When you're just a star, everyone is your market and audience, whereas a political name is often seen aligned with certain values and segments. A film star cuts across caste and creed whereas a politician has to appease their vote bank," independent exhibitor Vishek Chauhan said. While a cinematic superhero image can help actors get into politics, the two domains are hardly complimentary, Chauhan added. Vijay's next film Jana Nayagan is set for a Pongal 2026 release even as his party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam makes its electoral debut in the 2026 Tamil Nadu assembly elections, while Pawan Kalyan has titles like Hari Hara Veera Mallu: Part 1 and OG slated to arrive in theatres over the coming months. Actor Kamal Haasan, who has formed Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM), a regional political party in Tamil Nadu, has seen recent titles like Indian 2 and Thug Life, which were also panned by critics, underperform at the box office, while up north, Kangana Ranaut, Lok Sabha member from the ruling BJP, has featured in titles such as Emergency, Tejas and Dhaakad that failed to draw crowds. Haasan is set to enter Rajya Sabha, backed by the DMK. To be sure, over the years, several actors including Andhra's NT Rama Rao, Tamil Nadu's MG Ramachandran, Chiranjeevi, Hema Malini, Jaya Bachchan and others entered politics. Many of these made a foray later in their careers after having stopped actively taking up lead roles, some others such as Ranaut and Govinda have tried balancing the two jobs, without much success. 'Once actors turn politicians, their box office pull goes down. It gets even worse if they lose elections, but they certainly can't start from where they left," said Ruban Mathivanan of GK Cinemas in Chennai. Mathivanan added that other than just losing traction among audiences, actors-turned-political leaders often face hostility and bans in case the opposition parties come into power. In 2018, Rajinikanth's action drama Kaala had registered lacklustre opening collections after the actor caused a stir by describing anti-Sterlite protesters in Thoothukudi as 'anti-social elements". More recently, Thug Life did not release in Karnataka after Haasan's comments on the Kannada language drew backlash. Naveen Reddy: I believe emotion is bigger than action
Naveen Reddy B may be just one film old as a director—with Khaki marking his debut—but he brings over 20 years of experience in the Kannada film industry. Now, with his second film Maadeva set to release on June 6, he hopes this marks a defining moment in his journey: from an assistant director working behind the scenes to a storyteller confidently bringing his own vision to the screen. 'I've worked with many directors and across all kinds of films,' says Naveen. 'Luck and time need to meet. Until then, you evolve.' Unlike Khaki, Naveen has written the story of Maadeva himself. The film follows the life of a hangman, portrayed by Vinod Prabhakar, but according to the director, it is not about the technicalities of capital punishment. 'It's not about procedures. It's about the hangman's emotional life—his family, his struggles, his connection with society. It's brutal, yes, but also deeply human,' Naveen explains. Vinod, known for his image as an action star, has been given a multi-dimensional role in this film. 'I believe emotion is universal—bigger than action. In the last 40 minutes, audiences won't see Vinod Prabhakar—they'll see Maadeva,' he says confidently. Each actor was cast with intent. Sonal Monteiro plays a layered female lead, while Srinagar Kitty, Shruti, and Malashree bring complex shades to their characters. 'Shruti was surprised I approached her for a negative role. Malashree has a pivotal part that involves action. Even Cockroach Sudhir, though his screen time is brief, plays a vital role.' Vinod's physical transformation was meticulously crafted, including wearing lenses throughout the shoot. 'That alone was a challenge—shooting day after day with lenses. But it helped to show a completely different side of him.' Maadeva releases alongside Kamal Haasan's Thug Life, but Naveen remains unfazed. 'Yes, Kamal sir has a huge fan base, but in the end, it's about the story. Today, there's a shortage of strong Kannada films. Audiences are eager for meaningful local cinema. I believe they'll judge us fairly on the first day, first show.' Maadeva has stunt direction by Different Danny, Real Satish, and Vikram More, cinematography by Balakrishna Thota, editing by Vijay M.
