GCSE results: Carmarthenshire students celebrate exams
This year's results show that 62.4% of all GCSE entries in Carmarthenshire were awarded grades between A* and C. Additionally, 17.3% of entries achieved the highest marks, with grades in the A* to A range. One of the county's successful students, Manon, from Ysgol Maes y Gwendraeth, shared her impressive achievements. "I had eight A*, two A's, a B and a Distinction. I am very happy with my results and I'm going to return to Ysgol Maes y Gwendraeth to study English, Welsh, Spanish and Music," she said. Cllr. 'Thank you all for your hard work and dedication in preparing for your GCSEs. These results are also a reflection of the support and commitment of our teachers and support staff, and the families and friends of our young people. Congratulations to you all.' The positive sentiments were echoed in a joint statement released by the Council's Chief Executive, Wendy Walters, and Director of Education and Children's Services, Owain Lloyd. Highlands primary school closes permanently with immediate effect
Kinlochewe Primary School, near Achnasheen in Wester Ross, was closed by the local authority in June 2022, with pupils transferred to Gairloch Primary, which is about 20 miles away. The Highland Council said they decided to mothball the school as there were not enough children 'of suitable age' for it to remain open. A statement from the Highland Council said: 'Scottish Ministers have notified The Highland Council that the Council can proceed with its decision to close Kinlochewe Primary School, which has been mothballed since July 2022. This follows a decision taken by the Council on 26 June 2025. 'As the school is already mothballed, the decision will be implemented immediately.'

Bridlington North Library to undergo major refurbishment
Bridlington North Library is to undergo a full remodel, officials have Riding of Yorkshire Council said the library would close from 1 September to allow work to said the building would be given a "contemporary feel whilst carefully preserving the original character".New features will include a Health Zone, where customers can attend health and wellbeing checks, and a children's sensory room. In July, Bridlington Central Library reopened after also undergoing a major Nick Coultish, cabinet member for culture, leisure and tourism, said: "We are delighted to announce that we will now begin works on Bridlington North Library, ensuring that we will offer the same level of exceptional service across Bridlington.''Libraries are essential to our residents, providing a safe space for people to educate themselves and connect with their community whilst exploring their hobbies and passions."Coultish said the children's area would enable families to "learn together".The council, which has received £250,000 of government funding to put towards the refurbishment costs, said it expects work to be completed by the end of the year.
