Chelsea misfit emerges 'as Bayern Munich's top target' to replace Saudi Arabia-bound Kingsley Coman

An out-of-favour Chelsea star has emerged as Bayern Munich 's priority transfer target ahead of the impending exit of Kingsley Coman to Saudi Arabia. Coman is set to sign a three-year deal with Al-Nassr after Bayern Munich agreed to sell the French winger to the Saudi Pro League giants for a transfer fee of €30million (£26m). With Coman the fourth senior attacking player to leave Bayern Munich this summer - following the exits of Leroy Sane, Thomas Muller and Mathys Tel - the Bundesliga giants are eager to bolster Vincent Kompany 's squad with more forward options. According to L'Equipe, the German champions, who have already signed Luis Diaz from Liverpool for €75m (£65m) this summer, are prioritising a move for Blues misfit Christopher Nkunku. It is believed the club's director of football Max Eberl rates the former RB Leipzig star very highly, despite him struggling for minutes since joining Chelsea in 2023. Bayern Munich reportedly agreed personal terms with Nkunku last winter but were unable to match Chelsea's €70m (£60m) valuation. Bayern Munich winger Kingsley Coman is set to sign a three-year deal with Al-Nassr However, it is claimed the Blues have now dropped their asking price to between €40m (£34m) and €50m (£43m), handing Bayern Munich a significant boost in pursuit of his signature. Meanwhile, Chelsea have reportedly stepped up talks with Manchester United over a move for Red Devils exile Alejandro Garnacho. The Argentine, who was placed in Ruben Amorim's five-man 'bomb squad' at the start of the summer alongside fellow exiles Jadon Sancho, Antony, Marcus Rashford and Tyrell Malacia, is seeking an escape from Old Trafford ahead of what promises to be a season permanently on the sidelines. Daily Mail Sport reported on Sunday that Garnacho has now set his mind on a move to Chelsea, with the Blues holding a strong interest in the 21-year-old exile. The Red Devils, who initially wanted £70m for Garnacho, have reduced their asking price to £50m in the hope of securing his exit. It is understood the Blues' hierarchy have no concerns over his character after doing their homework - and that negotiations over Garnacho's exit fee are underway.

See you on the other side – James Maddison vows to bounce back from ACL misery

Maddison suffered a serious knee injury during Spurs' pre-season friendly with Newcastle in Seoul on August 3. It occurred months after a different knee issue ruled Maddison out of Tottenham's Europa League final triumph over Manchester United in May and despite being set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines during a World Cup year, the 28-year-old promised to silence those who 'mock' his misfortune. Lowest low I've ever had. Heartbroken at the fact this injury has occurred at this time in my career. With the Super Cup tomorrow, the premier league season on the horizon, the exciting champions league campaign & it being a World Cup year for England it all feels very very cruel… — James Maddison (@Madders10) August 12, 2025 'Lowest low I've ever had,' Spurs vice-captain Maddison said on X along with a picture of him on a hospital bed surrounded by his three children. 'Heartbroken at the fact this injury has occurred at this time in my career. With the Super Cup tomorrow, the Premier League season on the horizon, the exciting Champions League campaign and it being a World Cup year for England it all feels very very cruel but nevertheless the ACL reconstruction surgery was successful. 'To all my close friends and family, your support and love means absolutely everything to me. 'To those of you who have gone out of your way to message on social media platforms in support of me and my recovery even when we don't know each other personally, I appreciate you all more than you'll ever know so thank you. 'And lastly to those of you who doubt, hate and mock. You truly motivate me to levels I didn't know I had inside of me so again, thank you. See you all on the other side.' James Maddison is 'heartbroken' after his knee injury (Jacob King/PA) Maddison is expected to be sidelined for around nine months, but it may take up to a year and a half for the seven-cap England international to return to his previous best level – after he scored 12 times in 45 appearances for Spurs in the 2024-25 campaign. Sports scientist Dr Rajpal Brar, who runs 3cb Performance rehab centres in Los Angeles and Valencia, told the PA news agency: 'This is typically an eight- to nine-month return to play process for elite footballers but also depends on the full extent of the injury. 'For return to pre-injury levels, I'm typically looking around the 18-month mark.'
