LeBron James reportedly hasn't had buyout or trade talks with Lakers, is expected to report to training camp
That should presumably end rumors suggesting James could leave the franchise ahead of his 23rd season in the NBA.

James' status with the team has come into question despite the 40-year-old opting into his $52.6 million contract with the Lakers in June. James did not demand a one-year extension on his contract, which he's done in the past, leading some to wonder whether he was still happy in Los Angeles. The Lakers reportedly didn't offer James an extension either, leading some to wonder if the team was looking ahead to a time without James.
James' agent Rich Paul also got people talking after he made comments about the Lakers trying to contend while also building for the future, per The Athletic.
'LeBron knows the Lakers are building for the future, and he also wants to compete for championships. We understand the difficulty in winning now while preparing for the future. We do want to evaluate what's best for LeBron at this stage in his life and career."
Despite all the speculation, there's been no indication James is trying to force his way out of the Lakers just yet. He and Dončić alone are enough to make the team a contender, which should satisfy James' need to compete for a championship as his career winds down.
But the Lakers also need to plan for life without James. While the future Hall of Famer continues to play at a high level, he doesn't have many years left in the NBA. Even if the Lakers want to keep him around, the team can't really plan to have James for the long haul given his age.

Given that, the team has prioritizing building around the 26-year-old Dončić, who it acquired in February in one of the most shocking NBA trades of all time. Dončić is likely to sign a massive extension with the Lakers at some point this offseason, guaranteeing he'll remain with the team for multiple seasons. James can't make that same promise.
While the transition to Dončić has fueled some of the rumors about James' status, that speculation isn't based on anything James has said or done. Those rumors appear to be the result of people wondering how James will handle not being the focal point of a franchise.

Until James gives some indication he's unhappy, there's no reason to suspect things will change in Los Angeles. James opted in and is a member of the Lakers for the 2025-26 NBA season. Despite the rumors, it appears it's going to be business as usual for the veteran as he enters his 23rd season in the league.

Caitlin Clark replaced by Fever teammate Lexie Hull in WNBA All-Star 3-point contest
Indiana Fever guard Lexie Hull will replace teammate Caitlin Clark in the 3-point contest during WNBA All-Star weekend Friday night, the team announced Friday morning. Clark announced Thursday that she would not participate in the 3-point contest Friday or the All-Star Game on Saturday due to a right groin injury. Both events will be held at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, which is the Fever's home arena. Hull is shooting 46.8 percent on 3s this season, the fourth-highest mark in the WNBA. She's drained 29 3s overall, tied with Clark for the second-most on the Fever. All-Star teammate Kelsey Mitchell leads Indiana with 49 3-pointers this year. Hull will compete against defending 3-point contest champion and Atlanta Dream All-Star Allisha Gray, Los Angeles Sparks All-Star Kelsey Plum, New York Liberty All-Star Sabrina Ionescu and Washington Mystics rookie Sonia Citron. Clark injured her right groin in the Fever's road win over the Connecticut Sun on Tuesday night. After making a bounce pass to Mitchell, who scored on a layup with 39.1 seconds left in the game, Clark grabbed her right groin. The Sun called a timeout after the play, and tears welled in Clark's eyes as she walked to the bench in discomfort. 'I am incredibly sad and disappointed to say I can't participate in the 3-Point Contest or the All-Star Game. I have to rest my body,' Clark said in a statement. 'I will still be at Gainbridge Fieldhouse for all the action, and I'm looking forward to helping (New York Liberty coach) Sandy (Brondello) coach our team to a win.' Clark has sustained four non-contact injuries this year, resulting in 11 missed games. She was sidelined for five games with a left quad injury, five games with a left groin injury and now one game with a right groin injury. She also missed Indiana's preseason opener due to left leg tightness. Indiana is 4-6 without Clark this season, excluding the Commissioner's Cup Championship victory that does not count toward the team's overall record. The Fever are 12-11 and in sixth place in the WNBA standings. The team's next game is Tuesday at New York. Clark, a two-time All-Star, is averaging 16.5 points, 8.8 assists and 5.0 rebounds in 13 games this season. Before this year, she had never missed a game in her college or pro career, making 181 straight starts across five years. 'It's a big deal to have (the) All-Star (Game) in Indianapolis, and of course, with Caitlin being a focal point of that,' Fever coach Stephanie White said. 'As the coach of the Indiana Fever, it's not a bigger deal than our long-term season, but it's also part of the fun. 'The big picture is most important for her health and wellness long-term and for our team.' This article originally appeared in The Athletic. Indiana Fever, WNBA 2025 The Athletic Media Company
