Sealed, illegal RMC plants functioning in Gurugram: Minister
Several ready-mix concrete (RMC) plants in Gurugram continue to operate illegally despite being sealed, Haryana's industry and commerce minister Rao Narbir Singh said on Tuesday, directing the Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) and the Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) to take immediate joint action. Singh, who also holds the environment, forest and wildlife portfolio, criticised the ongoing operations during a departmental review meeting in Gurugram. 'It has come to notice that despite departmental action, some RMC plants are operating even after being sealed,' he said.
He added that the state government's commitment to transparent governance and public welfare. Singh had previously instructed the HSPCB to take action against illegal RMC plants under relevant environmental rules.
To prevent recurrence, Singh directed DHBVN officials to cut off power supply to RMC units immediately upon their sealing by the pollution control board. 'This will send a strong message to those violating rules,' the minister added.
During the meeting, Singh also ordered DHBVN to remove all hanging wires along major roads to prevent accidents, especially during the monsoon. 'These wires increase the possibility of accidents,' he said.
The Haryana cabinet minister further instructed that electric poles obstructing roads or located within residential and rural areas be shifted according to regulations. Dilapidated and unsafe electric wires in agricultural fields must be replaced in a phased manner, he added. Singh urged regular monitoring of all departmental works and adherence to deadlines and standards. 'Strict action will be taken if any negligence or laxity is found,' he warned.

A Mathura man, who was arrested in Delhi on June 29 by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for his links with the banned CPI (Maoist), supplied drones to Naxalites and trained them to operate the equipment and keep watch on security forces' activities in the forest areas of Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha, NIA officials privy to the investigation confirmed. For representation only During interrogation, the man identified as Vishal Singh revealed he had been supplying drones and providing operational training in dense forests for the past seven years, the officials said. The officials confirmed that Vishal Singh, the key accused in the revival of a CPI (Maoist) Northern Region Bureau (NRB), had delivered drones to leaders of the banned outfit in the Chhakarbanda- Pachrukhiya forest area of Bihar. Singh had imparted technical training to cadres of CPI (Maoist) and had also attended meetings with its central committee members deep in the forest areas of Bihar in 2019, the officials further said. NIA officials stated that Vishal Singh acted as a clandestine service provider, largely maintaining a normal life in Delhi. They added that Singh kept abreast of the latest technology while in the national capital and improvised it for the benefit of Naxalite groups operating in dense forest areas. The NIA is investigating the case and probing the extent of Vishal Singh's involvement with the CPI (Maoist). The agency is also examining the digital evidence seized during search operations to uncover more details about the organisation's activities and plans. The arrest highlights the ongoing efforts of the NIA to dismantle operations of banned terrorist organizations in the country. The NIA had confirmed that the agency seized digital devices, including hard drives, pen drives and mobile phones, as well as other incriminating material, during a search at Singh's West Delhi house. In August 2024, the NIA had arrested another accused, Ajay Singhal alias Aman, who was in charge of the Haryana and Punjab state organising committee of CPI (Maoist). The case relates to the terrorist organisation's conspiracy to revive its waning influence in the Northern Regional Bureau (NRB) area, officials said.

Muharram: 5k volunteers to assist cops
Indore: Ahead of Muharram, Indore police and the local administration have taken extensive measures to ensure peace and maintain law and order on Sunday. For the first time, approximately 5,000 volunteers from the minority community will join a force of around 3,500 police personnel to manage the situation. As part of these arrangements, Dhobi Ghat Maidan has been temporarily separated by erecting tin-shed barricades between two places of worship. Despite protests from Hindu organisations, Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) has granted permission for a three-day fair to be held on three acres of land at Dhobi Ghat Maidan, charging the organising committee Rs 1 lakh. This marks the first time the minority community sought the civic body's permission for the Muharram event, as the IMC secured ownership of the ground from the court last year. The administration has installed a tin-shed partition, delineating the space for the Muharram event and separating it from the remaining land around the Hanuman Temple. Temporary police outposts are already established at both ends of the partitioned area, and additional forces of around 500 security personnel will be deployed to maintain order. Indore additional police commissioner Amit Singh confirmed the deployment of an extra 1,000 personnel, bringing the total force on the ground to approximately 3,500, including officers from all police stations. Flag marches will be conducted in sensitive and important areas, while drones will provide close monitoring. "Additional vehicles have been made available for regular patrolling, and command and control centres have been erected at strategic places to keep a round-the-clock watch on every activity," Singh stated. He also mentioned that CCTV cameras have been installed at strategic locations, and regular checks are being conducted using modified Hand Held Metal Detectors (HHMD). Additionally, stoppers have been placed at the entry and exit points of sensitive streets. Singh said that a significant new initiative involves engaging around 5,000 volunteers from the minority community for the first time. These volunteers have been provided with T-shirts, whistles, and caps for easy identification and will assist police, including plainclothes officers, within the Muharram fair area. DJs have been instructed not to play objectionable music and to adhere strictly to volume and time deadlines. To ensure uninterrupted vigilance during potential power cuts, patrolling parties have also been equipped with torches, he said. "The 48 hours of deployment of the forces, in shifts, as part of the execution of this plan will start from Saturday night," he said, adding that volunteers from the majority community will also assist the force at the selected locations.

Rajeshwar calls for collective action against climate crisis
Lucknow: Sarojininagar MLA Rajeshwar Singh called for an urgent, collective response to the climate crisis while presenting a data-rich, forward-thinking vision rooted in environmental responsibility and digital innovation during a seminar organised by Lok Adhikar Manch at National PG College on Saturday. Citing the global 1.5°C temperature rise and the risk of extinction of a million species, Singh warned that the world stands at a 'now or never' juncture. Referring to Lucknow's alarming 300 days of hazardous AQI levels, he appealed for a citywide mass movement to safeguard the environment. Highlighting both local and national initiatives, he lauded India's Net Zero Emission pledge and Uttar Pradesh's plantation of over 200 crore trees. In Sarojininagar, his initiatives include the establishment of 150 Tarashakti Kendras, distribution of 30,000 eco-friendly bags, and the Environment Warriors campaign, which has honoured forest personnel and engaged over 1,000 students. He also announced the launch of an AI crash course at the Ran Bahadur Singh Digital Education and Youth Empowerment Centres, and donated 10 computers to National PG College. Stressing that "Lucknow, the Land of the Learned, must lead in climate solutions," he advocated for a carbon credit market, solar energy adoption, and reduction of food waste.
