NASCAR Nashville winners and losers from Ryan Blaney's Cracker Barrel 400 win

NASCAR Nashville winners and losers from Ryan Blaney's Cracker Barrel 400 win

Yahoo3 days ago

Ryan Blaney took control of the race with a pass for the lead on the restart with 116 laps to go, then drove to his first victory of the NASCAR Cup Series season in the Cracker Barrel 400 on June 1 at Nashville Superspeedway.
Blaney won Stage 2 but dropped behind Joey Logano after pit stops at the stage break. Blaney then drove by Logano on a restart on Lap 199 and held the top spot for the majority of the final 100 laps.

The final pit cycle completed under green, with Blaney holding a sizeable lead over second-place Carson Hocevar and third-place Denny Hamlin.
Hocevar finished in second for the second time this season, tying his career-best finish in the Cup Series.
Here are the winners and losers from Sunday's NASCAR Cup Series race at Nashville:
NASHVILLE RACE RESULTS: Ryan Blaney is winner, plus full leaderboard for Cracker Barrel 400
NASCAR Nashville winners and losers:
Winner: Carson Hocevar
Hocevar is a future star in the sport, and always a part of the story. Sunday's race had the best and worst of Hocevar, all in 300 laps.

In Stage 2, Hocevar drove hard into turn 3 and bumped Ricky Stenhouse Jr., sending the No. 47 Chevrolet spinning and into the wall. Stenhouse did not finish, credited with 39th, then told Amazon in an interview that retribution could be coming.
But Hocevar finished the second stage in the top 10, then worked the strategy late to end up second after the final pit cycle completed with about 30 laps to go.
Hocevar couldn't cut into Blaney's lead at the end, but was able to hold off Hamlin to finish second. It ties a runner-up finish at Atlanta earlier this season as his career-best in the Cup Series.
Winner: Bubba Wallace
Bubba Wallace needed a good finish badly, but probably did not think he would get one early in the race.

Wallace was penalized for speeding on the first stop of the race, on Lap 44. He lost a lap, and wasn't able to get it back at the stage end.
Wallace did get the free pass on Lap 104 as a group of cautions helped the bottom of the running order, then steadily climbed the leaderboard.
The No. 23 Toyota entered the top 10 early in the final stage, and Wallace drove up into sixth on the final run.
Wallace entered Nashville with three straight DNFs, dropping out of the top 10 in points. Sunday's result should help Wallace and his 23XI Racing team reset positively as the second half of the regular season begins this month.
Loser: Alex Bowman
Alex Bowman's stretch of poor finishes continued on Sunday in Nashville after wrecking alongside Noah Gragson early in Stage 2.
Bowman's 36th-place finish is his fifth finish of 29th or worse in the last seven races, and it puts into question his playoff status with 12 regular-season races left.
To give context on Bowman's struggles: He finished second at Homestead and was third in points through six races. After Nashville, Bowman is in 12th in points.
Loser: Ricky Stenhouse Jr.
Stenhouse was on the receiving end of Hocevar's too-aggressive bumping on Lap 106. (That incident comes up a couple times, doesn't it?)
The No. 47 Chevrolet was a model of consistency throughout the first 13 races, coming into Nashville at 13th in points despite just two top-10 finishes but no finishes outside the top 25.

But Hocevar's contact sent Stenhouse into the wall, out of the race and down the standings and the playoff picture.

Sky legend Candace Parker honored with 2nd WNBA jersey retirement

The post Sky legend Candace Parker honored with 2nd WNBA jersey retirement appeared first on ClutchPoints. Former Chicago Sky player Candace Parker has already cemented her legacy as one of the greatest players in WNBA history. The Sky also announced they will retire Parker's No. 3 jersey this season. Advertisement They will hold the ceremony during their game against the Las Vegas Aces at Wintrust Arena on August 25, 2025. Parker's jersey will be the first number the Sky retire, highlighting her profound impact on the franchise. Earlier this year, the Los Angeles Sparks announced they will retire Parker's iconic No. 3 jersey on June 29, 2025, at Arena. This event will take place during their game against the Sky. Parker will become the third player in Sparks history to receive this honor, following Lisa Leslie and Penny Toler. Parker spent 13 seasons with the Sparks after they selected her No. 1 overall in the 2008 WNBA Draft. She joined the team just one day after she won her second NCAA title with the Tennessee Lady Volunteers. Advertisement She immediately showed why she was the No. 1 pick. In her WNBA debut, Parker delivered a double-double with 34 points and 12 rebounds as the Sparks defeated the Phoenix Mercury. Her 34 points set the rookie record for the most points in a debut, and that record still stands today. Parker collected numerous accolades during her career. She earned Rookie of the Year, two MVP awards, seven All-Star selections, 10 All-WNBA selections, an All-Star Game MVP, and a Defensive Player of the Year award. Remarkably, she remains the only player in WNBA history to win Rookie of the Year and MVP in the same season. Her crowning moment with the Sparks came in 2016. She helped the Sky win their first WNBA championship that season. After finishing sixth in the regular season, the Sky knocked out the Dallas Wings and Minnesota Lynx. Advertisement They then upset the top-seeded Connecticut Sun in the semifinals. In the Finals, Parker and the Sky defeated the Phoenix Mercury in four games to secure the title. In 2023, Parker signed with the Las Vegas Aces and added a third WNBA championship to her resume. She later announced her retirement, ending one of the most remarkable careers in league history. Candace Parker's journey reshaped the WNBA. As a rookie, a champion, and a league icon, she set the standard for leadership on and off the court. As she steps away, she leaves a legacy of excellence that will inspire generations to come.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts gifts pink toy luxury car to Shohei Ohtani's baby daughter

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts and his wife have gifted Shohei Ohtani's baby daughter with a pink toy Porsche. Ohtani posted a video of him, Roberts and the toy car on his Instagram account. 'We had a little running practical-joke situation going on,' Roberts said Wednesday, 'but this was a gift for the baby.' Last May, Roberts joked that Ohtani should give him a Porsche when the slugger broke the Dodgers record for most home runs by a Japanese player. Ohtani obliged, gifting a purple toy model Porsche for Roberts' office. In breaking the record, Ohtani surpassed the mark set by Roberts, who was born in Japan, during his playing days. Ohtani went slightly bigger in March, when he left another toy Porsche in Roberts' parking space at Camelback Ranch in Arizona. Ohtani gifted Ashley Kelly, wife of Dodgers pitcher Joe Kelly, a Porsche for her husband giving up his No. 17 when Ohtani signed with the Dodgers in December 2023. Ohtani's first child was born on April 19. He and his wife, Mamiko Tanaka, have not revealed the baby's name or any other information in keeping with Ohtani's penchant for privacy. Ohtani's reaction to the gift from Roberts and his wife Tricia? 'He was very grateful,' Roberts said. ___ AP MLB:

Why Stellantis and Amazon Axed Their SmartCockpit Partnership

Back in January 2022, Stellantis, the multinational automaker that is the parent company of American brands like Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram, as well as European powerhouses like Fiat, Alfa Romeo, and Maserati, announced a multiyear agreement revolving primarily around in-cabin software. The main product from the Amazon-Stellantis link-up was called SmartCockpit, a "software-defined platform" that was intended to "seamlessly integrate with customers' digital lives" and ship in global Stellantis vehicles by 2024. However, a new report from Reuters confirms that Amazon's deal with Stellantis to create this software is sunsetting after it missed the 2024 deadline. In a statement sent to the newswire, neither Stellantis nor Amazon told Reuters exactly why they had come to the decision. Still, they noted that each company would continue on its separate path. "Stellantis remains a valuable partner for Amazon, and the companies continue to work together on a range of initiatives," the two companies wrote in a statement to Reuters. They added that the break "will allow each team to focus on solutions that provide value to our shared customers and better align with our evolving strategies." The goal of SmartCockpit was to turn ordinary Chryslers, Dodges, Jeeps, Rams, as well as Fiats, Alfa Romeos, and Maseratis, into software-defined vehicles like those of rivals like Tesla, Rivian, and BYD. In Stellantis's 2022 release announcing and detailing its plans to develop SmartCockpit, the two companies said that the software in Stellantis-branded cars will "seamlessly integrate with customers' digital lives to create personalized, intuitive in-vehicle experiences through AI-enhanced applications for entertainment, Alexa-enabled voice assistance, navigation, vehicle maintenance, ecommerce marketplaces, and payment services." The 'STLA SmartCockpit platform,' as it was called, would use purpose-built Amazon products for Stellantis, integrate Amazon's Echo and Alexa smart home and security ecosystem, and create a smartphone-like in-car software experience tailored for specific vehicles and their owners. "For example, Chrysler Pacifica vehicles could offer a family-trip planner that recommends media content, points of interest, restaurants, and other fun stops along the route," Stellantis said. " Jeep® vehicles could come with a digital off-road 'coach' to help customers calibrate the vehicle and optimize performance before tackling tough terrain." At the time, then-Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares called the Amazon partnership "an integral part of our capability building roadmap," adding that Amazon's tech prowess would help transform the driving experience of its vehicles. "By leveraging artificial intelligence and cloud solutions, we will transform our vehicles into personalized living spaces and enhance the overall customer experience, making our vehicles the most wanted, most captivating place to be, even when not driving," Tavares said. The end of this partnership comes as Stellantis enters a transition period following the tenure of Carlos Tavares, with the newly appointed CEO, Antonio Filosa, taking the helm in June. I think that the rather quiet realization of the end of this partnership goes to show that Stellantis is prioritizing its approach going forward. That being said, the fact that we are in the era of the software-defined vehicle is rather interesting, especially considering that companies like Google (with Google Built-in) and Apple's CarPlay Ultra are making their way to dominate every screen on dashboards. If it came to light, having Amazon in the mix would have been a very left-field option. Copyright 2025 The Arena Group, Inc. All Rights Reserved.
