Shrine Bowl Day 2 Notes and Winners
Day two of practices at the Shrine Bowl went down Sunday at the University of North Texas. It was another big day for some of the more intriguing prospects in this group. Here's a rundown of some notes from those in attendance Sunday.
It can be tough to standout as a RB with no full tackling during all-star practices, but this was exactly what you wan to see from @GamecockFB RB Rocket Sanders
6-ft, 224 lbs. we know he can run behind the pads, but here he showed nice wiggle to cut back inside and up the field pic.twitter.com/Y0j7NyoCw6

Another day, another inside spin win from @HokiesFB Antwaun Powell-Ryland
Easy to see why it's a go-to of his. If OTs take their weight off their inside foot, he'll make them pay pic.twitter.com/XoQRyWYyVc

Some thoughts from EW Shrine practices this morning:
– No surprise, Kyle McCord the best of the QB group, but Cam Miller had some good moments too.
– Cobee Bryant is rail thin (171 lbs), but he made several plays on the ball in 1v1. He and Nohl Williams are the top-2 CBs here…

#Kansas CB Cobee Bryant has been the best player at the @ShrineBowl through two days. Had an interception and multiple pass breakups today. Also was chirping to the receivers in lots of drills throughout practice.
Very confident player.

• Jordan Phillips, iDL, Maryland
• Alijah Huzzie, Nickel CB, North Carolina
• Elijah Roberts, EDGE, SMU
• La'Johntay Wester, WR, Colorado
Four prospects on the West roster that have really stood out through two days of practices at the @ShrineBowl.

Bills Given Mediocre Grade For QB-WR Duos in 2025
Bills Given Mediocre Grade For QB-WR Duos in 2025 originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Buffalo Bills know they have one of the best quarterbacks in football. Josh Allen's talent will always keep Buffalo in championship contention. Advertisement Who he ends up throwing the football to, though, remains something of a mystery. As things stand, Allen's top receiving target in 2025 is expected to be Khalil Shakir. He has grown into a very dependable player by totaling over 1,500 yards receiving combined in his first three years. But as quarterback and receiver duos come, the Allen-Shakir duo isn't one that is talked about as a top pair in the league. PFF writer Trevor Sikkema essentially argued that by placing the Allen/Shakir duo at just 18th in the league. "The Bills' passing offense is more by committee, but Shakir seems to lead the group with the highest threat rate (target rate on routes run) and most targets in 2024," Sikkema said. "Though their average target depth as a duo is on the lower side, at 6.1 yards over the past two seasons, Allen and Shakir have ideal efficiency scores with the highest completion rate (83.6%) on this list and no turnover-worthy plays." Advertisement Our view? It is surprising - and pretty ludicrous - to list Allen on any list with quarterbacks as anything other than a top-10 duo. It's just that simple. Despite that, Sikkema's argument is that Shakir's skill set isn't among the best across the league. And their 18th ranking will only give the duo a chance to show just how wrong PFF's rankings were. PFF names Broncos' top 3 players ahead of 2025 season
PFF names Broncos' top 3 players ahead of 2025 season Pro Football Focus writer Trevor Sikkema recently wrote an article about the three top players for each NFL team entering the 2025 season. Micah Parsons of the Dallas Cowboys and Myles Garrett of the Cleveland Browns are some players who represent a sense of importance for their teams. For the Denver Broncos, Sikkema chose cornerback Patrick Surtain, wide receiver Courtland Sutton and offensive guard Quinn Meinarz as the three top players for the franchise. Below, he elaborates why, with the data to prove it. 'Surtain earned PFF's Best Coverage Defender Award in 2024 with an 87.4 coverage grade while allowing just 0.53 yards per coverage snap," Sikkema wrote. "Meinerz posted a 0.51 WAR in 2024, third-best among all guards, on the strength of an 87.5 run-blocking grade. Sutton followed with a 0.44 WAR and a 77.0 receiving grade, placing him among the top 20 wideouts league-wide.' The Broncos made their first playoff appearance since their 2015 Super Bowl-winning season in 2024. Hopefully, the three players mentioned can take the Broncos deep into the postseason -- and back to the Super Bowl -- soon. Related: These 25 celebrities are Broncos fans.

A stacked Eagles roster didn't prevent the NFC East from a poor divisional ranking
A stacked Eagles roster didn't prevent the NFC East from a poor divisional ranking The Eagles are again expected to be contenders, but that wasn't enough to help the NFC East move the meter in a recent ranking of divisions in the NFL Another banner will be hung on opening night. The Philadelphia Eagles will celebrate last February's Super Bowl win. They do so by hosting one of their fiercest rivals, the hated Dallas Cowboys. These two renew their feud twice per season and throw darts at one another. Those clashes have often determined who will wear the NFC East's crown. That changed this past NFL season. Dallas took a backseat and missed the playoffs as rookie QB Jayden Daniels helped the Washington Commanders become a contender in the National Football Conference. Philadelphia won the division and another Lombardi Trophy. Their last defeat was a Week 16 collapse vs. those same Commanders. Revenge was sweet as the Birds throttled Washington during a 55-23 win in the NFC Championship Game. The 2025-26 pro football season should deliver fireworks. The Birds are expected to contend, and Washington is expected to be their biggest obstacle in reaching divisional superiority. We'll see what happens with Dallas and the New York Giants. The NFC East figures to be an interesting watch, but it received a low ranking in a recent take on all eight NFL divisions. The Eagles' brilliance isn't enough to elevate the NFC East in an NFL divisional ranking. The adrenaline is flowing as we approach May's end and Eagles OTAs. Every platform is dishing out tons of content as fans, players, coaches, and the media prepare for another NFL season. Pro Football Focus offered an interesting take. They ranked all eight of pro football's divisions as we inch toward the 2025-26 season. Overall strength and cumulative over/under win totals were the significant factors in the list. The NFC East landed fifth, finishing behind the NFC North, AFC West, NFC West, and AFC North. Philly and company land ahead of the NFC South, AFC East, and AFC South. Trevor Sikkema is the author of this one. He mentioned his reasoning for making that determination. "The NFC East sent both representatives to the NFC championship game last January, but those two teams — the Eagles and Commanders — are carrying most of the weight for the division as a whole... The Cowboys were derailed by injuries at quarterback last season, and while the arrival of Brian Schottenheimer as head coach brings some uncertainty, they still have the talent to be competitive... As for the Giants, their quarterback situation remains unresolved, with three players currently in contention for the starting role. The offensive line hasn't seen meaningful improvement, which raises concerns regardless of who starts under center." Let's make long stories short. Expect the Birds and Commanders to excel. Expect another mediocre season from Dallas and next to nothing from the Giants. This season, Birds fans and the division's three other teams will give fans unprecedented access. They'll be featured on Hard Knocks: In-Season With the NFC East. If HBO's behind-the-scenes documentary on the AFC North is any indication, Eagles fans and the fans of their rivals are in for a thrill ride all season.
