Heinz launches ‘game-changing' new ketchup that's ‘better than the real thing' – and it's already hit UK shelves

SAUCE giant Heinz has unveiled a new ketchup which some customers have claimed is "better than the original".
The "game-changing" condiment has 35 per cent more tomatoes, a "DRASTICALLY" different colour, and even boasts several health benefits.
Heinz 's Tomato Ketchup Zero has sent sauce fans into an online frenzy - with many claiming the new sauce has a better taste.
The new Zero ketchup no added sugar and salt, unlike its original counterpart.
According to the beloved sauce brand, 9 in 10 customers said "it delivers the great quality you'd expect from Heinz", and tastes better than "other 'Zero' products".
Bewildered shoppers poured out on social media, with many shocked at the new launch.
One user said: "IS THAT ZERO CAL KETCHUP?"
Another chimed in: "IS THAT KETCHUP ZERO I'VE NEVER SEEN ONE WHAT IS THAT?"
While a third user said: "It's DRASTICALLY different in colour than ketchup I have what the hell."
Heinz also said that the release meets consumer trends, as "50,000 Brits say their top food priority is healthier choices with less sugar and salt".
This nationwide launch is available now in Sainsbury's across the UK, and from July in all major retailers.
Each bottle costs £3.39.

On the Sainsbury's website, where the bottles are being exclusively sold right now, users poured positive reviews onto new ketchup's page.
One satisfied customer said: "Great flavour, the perfect blend of sweetness mixed with the acidity of the tomato!
"Nice smooth consistency, a little goes a long way!"
Meanwhile, another said: "Tastes just like the regular product. Looks just like the regular product. Highly recommended."
A third chimed in with their opinion, saying: "This, whilst less sweet (and considerably so), had a more tomato flavour & just seemed more balanced all round.
"Great on chips too."
Head of Innovation for Tomato Ketchup in Europe, Alexandra Bayet, said: "Consumers expect 'Zero' products to fall flat on flavour – because 'Zero' often means 'less'.
'We wanted to turn that on its head and create a ketchup that's all about more of what you love, even with fewer ingredients.
The head added: "Developed using our 150-year sauce know-how, taste expertise and containing 35% more sun-ripened tomatoes, grown especially for Heinz, our new Heinz Zero Added Sugar & Salt Tomato Ketchup, delivers a bold, satisfying taste that lives up to the standard set by our iconic original.
"So, whether you're choosing Zero or Classic, you can be confident it will taste like Heinz."

A Brazilian fine art student has said her 'dreams are on hold' after being left in limbo for seven months due to Home Office visa errors. Júlia Couto, 25, came to the UK five years ago to study at UCL's Slade school of fine art and hoped to stay and work in London on a graduate visa. These visas allow foreign students to stay in the UK for at least two years after they complete their course. But the Home Office refused her application in October last year, saying she had not completed her course at UCL when she had – and told her to leave the country within days. After this error was rectified by the university, Ms Couto applied for a second time but was again rejected in December after officials relied on the end date of her physical residency card rather than her visa. Ms Couto applied for a review but, six months later, has not had a decision. She is now jobless, struggling for money and unable to make any plans for her future, including seeing her family. She told The Independent said: 'It has been a very emotionally difficult period in my life, maybe the hardest point in my life. Applying for a review means waiting and waiting and hearing nothing back. 'I've had to give up on so many dreams and I feel lost in the system. Now I can't work and I can't leave the country. I was going to go and spend Christmas with my family in Brazil but now I can't do that. The plane ticket I had for Christmas I've pushed back to July, but I can't see myself pushing it back for much longer. 'I have gone through all my savings and now I am relying on my parents supporting me.' After graduating last summer, Ms Couto had started an internship at a top London art gallery. 'I really remember thinking my life is in the right place now, I have this amazing job, I just need this visa confirmation so I can finally relax,' she said. Describing how she felt after receiving her initial rejection, Ms Couto told The Independent: 'It was terrifying. My life was going along so well and suddenly it felt like my whole world was crumbling. I felt so along and so hopeless. I just remember crying in Oxford Circus, and the message says you have ten days to leave the country so I was just thinking what do I do now?' She carried on working at the gallery's offices in Mayfair as her visa was valid until the end of November. Her biometric residence permit expired in early October but her online eVisa account showed that she still had her student visa until 26 November 2024. The government has been moving to an electronic visa system, meaning people's physical residency permit cards have expired but their status is now proved electronically. She added: 'My dream is to make work here and exhibit, and work in art galleries. But I have been left completely unable to make any plans, unable to plan any next steps in my career or in my relationship. 'Leaving would mean giving up on many relationships I have built here in London'. Jeremy Corbyn, Ms Couto's local MP for Islington, said: "Júlia has been treated abominably – and has now been left in limbo while officials correct their own mistakes. She faces a wait of up to 12 months for a judicial review decision, and in the meantime, she cannot move forward with her career or even visit her family in Brazil without jeopardising her application. 'Sadly, her case is far from unique. Many of my constituents are left waiting in limbo for years by a department that seems intent on preventing them from living their lives and contributing to society." Vitoria Nabas, Ms Couto's solicitor, said: 'This case highlights a growing concern among international graduates who contribute significantly to the UK's academic and economic landscape and are being failed by systemic inefficiencies and a lack of procedural clarity. 'We urge the Home Office to act swiftly and justly, ensuring that administrative errors do not result in life-altering consequences for compliant and capable individuals who have abided by the law at every step.' Andreea Dumitrache, at rights group the3million, said: "Júlia's story is heartbreaking and unfortunately all too familiar. We stand with Júlia and others like her who are caught in bureaucratic nightmares, denied justice because the system itself is broken."

Landlords and businesses to pay £480 to file tax returns in HMRC digital push

HM Revenue and Customs' (HMRC) 'pointless' digital drive will cost 900,000 self-employed workers £480, analysis shows. HMRC's 'Making Tax Digital' project means nearly a million landlords and freelancers will have to report their taxes quarterly, rather than every year, from April 2026. The project requires businesses and individuals to pay for third-party software to complete their tax returns, with the cheapest software on the market costing £150, according to tax advisory firm, Blick Rothenberg. HMRC also estimates that training and transitional costs for small businesses will add up to £330. This means self-employed workers will be hit with at least £480 of extra costs to comply with the rules. HMRC has said its digital drive will make it easier for businesses to keep on top of their tax affairs and allow them to see real-time data on the health of their finances. However, tax experts have said the initiative adds needless bureaucracy without reducing tax liability. Fiona Fernie, a partner at Blick Rothenberg, said the regime was 'pointless', as the Treasury will receive no additional tax take, despite taxpayers' reporting burden increasing. She added: 'The concept that taxpayers are hit with an obligation to file additional returns, but will not be provided with the means to do so unless they incur a cost feels unfair. 'This appears to fly in the face of the taxpayers' charter which specifically states: 'We'll provide services that are designed around what you need to do, and are accessible, easy and quick to use, minimising the cost to you.' For smaller businesses and sole traders with lower incomes, this could be a significant hit to their finances.' Ian Cook, chartered financial planner at Quilter Cheviot, said: 'I would question the merit of the initiative and why it's been put in place. It's an extra layer of bureaucracy with no tangible benefit on either side – not the exchequer nor the self-employed taxpayer. 'People who are self-employed tend to be self-sufficient and doing meaningful work – carpentry, building work, running their own business. More admin will take time out of their busy day which reduces earnings capacity.' The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) has said the digital income tax self-assessment drive was 'burdensome and not justifiable'. In its letter to HMRC in 2023, the ICAEW wrote: 'Making Tax Digital's income tax self-assessment has become mired in controversy, the credibility of the project and the 'Making Tax Digital brand' has been severely, if not irretrievably, undermined.' Despite the criticism, Labour has decided to broaden the scope of the digital drive. In a technical document issued alongside the Spring Statement in March, the Government confirmed that the Making Tax Digital rules will start from April 2026 for sole traders and landlords with qualifying income over £50,000, and extend to those with incomes over £30,000 in April 2027. It will be further extended to sole traders and landlords with income over £20,000 from April 2028. It is estimated that this decision to reduce the threshold to £20,000 will result in 900,000 sole traders and landlords being brought into the net from this date. Making Tax Digital was originally announced in 2015, and was expected to be in place by 2020. The project is already in operation for VAT. Since April 2022, all VAT registered businesses have been required to keep digital records and file returns through the compatible software. In 2018, the National Audit Office (NAO) concluded that it expected the project to cost rather than to benefit business taxpayers. It reviewed the project again in 2023, and reported a series of problems, including unrealistic timescales to implement changes, and failing to demonstrate that the project represents value for money.

Digestives - raspberry and cream McVitie's has put a fruity spin on its classic biscuit with the launch of the limited-edition raspberry and cream flavour. The digestive is topped with a pink chocolate in the nostalgic flavours. A full rollout of the limited edition flavour will see the snacks hit UK supermarkets from July 21. You can pick up a standard 15-pack of the biscuits for £2.35, while the current promo version is marked down to just £1.85. Jammie Dodgers - mango and passionfruit 7 Jammie Dodgers has released a flurry of new flavours with the latest being Mango and Passionfruit. Jaffa Cakes - hot honey 7 Jaffa Cakes have jumped on the sweet spicy trend and revealed a Hot Honey flavour. The flavour has caused a stir online - and not everyone's a fan. The treats are exclusively on sale at Asda stores nationwide for £1.50 for a box of 10 before being rolled out to other retailers from the end of July. New York Bakery - subs 7 If you've loved the bagels from New York Bakery, the firm has now branched out into offering subs so that you can create your own big sandwiches at home. They often say that this is down to the changing tastes of customers. There are several reasons why this could be done. For example, government regulation, like the "sugar tax," forces firms to change their recipes. Some manufacturers might choose to tweak ingredients to cut costs.
