Bengaluru braces for traffic disruptions as thousands protest at Freedom Park today

According to a traffic advisory issued by the Upparpet traffic police station in Bengaluru, an estimated 4,000 to 5,000 people are anticipated to assemble at Freedom Park to press for various demands by participating organizations. As a result, authorities have urged commuters to avoid the area and opt for alternative routes to steer clear of congestion.

Traffic cops shared the advisory over social media. 'Traffic Advisory: On 09.07.25, a protest was organized at Freedom Park for the fulfilment of demands by organizations. About 4 to 5000 people are expected to gather. Due to traffic congestion around Freedom Park, the public has been advised to take alternative routes @blrcitytraffic,' the post read.

On this occasion, Modi urged artisans and weavers to take India's indigenous crafts global through the mantra of 'Swadeshi and Local to Global.' He emphasised the legal significance of GI as a symbol of local identity and called for robust measures to protect and promote it.

Varanasi: On the occasion of Shrawan month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a special gift from Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath during his visit to Varanasi on Saturday. The gift — a stunning 'Shivling' sculpture — showcases the rich heritage of Kashi's GI-tagged crafts and embodies deep spiritual symbolism. The Shivling is made from GI-registered Banaras Metal Repousse Craft along with a five-headed serpent, Nandi (the bull), offerings, a pot with Ganga water, a trident, sandalwood ashes, and a piece adorned with Meenakari on a platform. Padma Shri awardee and GI expert Rajni Kant said that this artwork, which stands 18 inches tall and 15 inches wide, is a confluence of three distinct GI crafts from Varanasi—Metal Repoussé Craft, Meenakari, and Metal Casting Craft. It was crafted by metal artisans Anil Kasera and Raghunath Kasera, and Meenakari artist Arun Kumar Verma over a week. He said that the entire artisan community feels honoured and the gift represents the strength and potential of India's geographical indication (GI) ecosystem.
