A lottery player's forgetful mistake led him to a jackpot lottery win in Missouri, officials say.
After forgetting to get gas the night before, the Missouri man stopped at a Circle K in Chesterfield the next morning. While there, he picked up a 777 Jackpot scratch-off ticket, according to the Missouri Lottery.
He questioned what he saw when he scratched off the ticket.
'It honestly looked fake at first,' he told lottery officials in an April 17 news release. 'It was such an odd experience.'
He had a reason to wonder if the ticket was real. There were a lot of 7s staring back at him, after all, as he won one of the game's jackpot prizes of $777,777.
The winner said he checked his ticket over and over before believing it.
'Once I knew it was real, I started to panic a little bit!' he told lottery officials. 'I kept expecting something to happen before I got home with it!'
When he safely made it home, he signed the ticket and put it away 'for safekeeping.'
The winner said he plans to use part of his winnings to fund an upcoming 20th anniversary trip for he and his wife.
The 777 Jackpot game costs $10 to play and offers two jackpot prizes of $777,777. One top prize remains.
Chesterfield is about a 20-mile drive west from St. Louis.

Arrest made in gas station shooting that left 2 injured
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — An arrest has been made in a shooting at a Hickory Hill gas station that left a man and a juvenile critically injured last month. Tariq Robinson, 21, is charged with two counts of criminal attempt first-degree murder, two counts of employment of a firearm with intent to commit a felony, and criminal attempt especially aggravated robbery. ORIGINAL STORY: Two injured in Hickory Hill gas station shooting On May 29, Memphis Police say they responded to the Circle K gas station on 6193 Mount Moriah Road Extended regarding a shooting call. A male victim was found sitting in he driver's seat of a Corolla suffering from a gunshot wound to his left hand and face. A juvenile victim was later found after he ran from the Corolla during the shooting. Police say the male juvenile was suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper left leg and abrasions to his face. They were both taken to the hospital in critical condition. Man allegedly shoots coworker after 'exchange of words' Video footage showed two men getting out of a white Nissan Altima and walking toward the two victims sitting in the Corolla. Witnesses say they saw one of the suspects running after the Corolla when it left the parking lot and began yelling, 'get out the car, get out the car' as it drove off. The suspect is then accused of firing shots into he back of the Corolla. On June 2, Memphis Police Violent Crime Unit investigators conducted a search warrant on the suspect's Nissan Altima. The investigators said a wallet was found in the front passenger side of the vehicle belonging to Kevon Chapman, and another was found in the backseat belonging to Tariq Robinson. Tariq Robinson was booked into jail on Tuesday. He is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday morning. His bond has yet to be set. An Orillia man has a grand adventure planned after winning $5 million in the Lotto 6/49 draw from March 19. Paul Cousineau, a 51-year-old administrative professional in the hospitality industry, lost his wife last year. 'Her dream was to take an Alaskan cruise, and I want to honour that by going on one for my 52nd birthday this fall,' he told officials while claiming his winnings at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto. 'I'll have her urn with me, so in a way, she'll be with me on this trip.' Cousineau called the win 'absolutely surreal.' 'It was a regular day when I decided to pick up a ticket at my usual store,' he recounted. 'I've been buying my tickets there for years,' he said, adding that he usually uses the quick pick feature when he plays his favourite games, Lotto 6/49 and Lotto Max.
