Abu Dhabi Police warns drivers against stopping at toll gates to avoid charges
Authorities observed that some drivers were parking near the Darb toll gate system to wait for toll-free periods, a practice flagged by smart surveillance systems as dangerous and disruptive to traffic flow.
In a recent post on social media, the police shared video clips of several violations, showing vehicles stopping illegally along the shoulder of the road.
According to police, improper parking or blocking traffic may lead to a AED 500 fine, while sudden lane changes could result in a AED 1,000 fine and 4 black points on the driver's record.
Entering bus-only lanes or using restricted routes is also a violation, carrying a AED 400 fine under Ministerial Resolution No. 178 of 2017 on traffic control rules.
The Traffic and Security Patrols Directorate urged the public to comply with all traffic regulations to help ensure road safety and prevent unnecessary risks to other road users.

Abu Dhabi will start charging Darb tolls for an additional two hours in the evening from September 1 and remove daily and monthly caps on toll usage. Making the announcement, the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) said drivers will be charged AED 4 every time they pass a darb toll gate from 3pm, instead of the previous 5pm. The tolls will not be collected after 7pm. Meanwhile, there will be no changes to the morning period, which will remain 7am to 9am. Currently, monthly daily limits are AED150 for a send private vehicle and AED100 for a third or any additional vehicle. Eligible groups, including People of Determination, low-income families, senior citizens and retirees, will be exempted from the new rule.

The Integrated Transport Centre has announced tariff and limit amendments coming into effect starting September 1, where tariff hours will be extended from 3 PM to 7 PM, and charge limits on private vehicles will be removed in Abu Dhabi. The evening period will be revised to run from 3 PM to 7 PM instead of 5 PM to 7 PM previously , while the morning period will remain unchanged, from 7 AM to 9 AM, Monday through Saturday. Tariffs will continue to be free of charge on Sundays and official public holidays. The new amendments also remove the current daily and monthly toll caps for private vehicles. There will no longer be a maximum limit on the toll charges collected per vehicle each day, previously AED 16 daily. The limit was also removed for monthly charges, which had been AED 200 for the first vehicle, AED 150 for the second, and AED 100 for the third and any additional vehicles. A fee of AED 4 will continue to be applied each time a vehicle passes through a toll gate in the emirate. The existing exemption policy will also continue for eligible groups, including People of Determination, low-income families, senior citizens, and retirees.
