You've been playing Monopoly wrong as there's 'mind-blowing' little-known rule
Monopoly players have only just discovered a little-known rule which could speed up the whole board game, but not everyone is a fan of the 'mind-blowing' addition
Monopoly is a staple game at many family gatherings - but it can often get quite heated. There's usually someone who cheats, someone who takes it too seriously, and someone who gets easily annoyed. A game of Monopoly can take hours, but apparently it's actually meant to last around 60 to 90 minutes.
So why does it always take so long? It turns out many of us have been playing the board game, which can be traced back to 1903, wrong. There's a little-known rule which can completely alter the course of the game, and make it a lot quicker. But not everyone is a fan of it.
The forgotten rule has recently surfaced online, and many have admitted they've been playing it wrong this whole time.
The topic was discussed on the Triple M Breakfast show, where host Beau Ryan said he'd had a "realisation the other day" after playing Monopoly with his son. A clip of the chat was shared to TikTok.
After landing on Park Lane, which is the second most expensive property on the standard UK board, he decided not to buy it.
However, his son then shouted: "Buying it!". Confused, Beau had replied: "Hang on champion, you can't buy that, you didn't land on it." But his son then claimed the property goes to auction if the person who landed on it doesn't buy it.
Beau didn't believe his son and asked him to go and get the rule book - and he was left shocked when his son was correct.
Beau explained: "If anyone lands on a property in Monopoly, and they don't buy it, the other plays can auction it." Fellow co-host Cat Lynch said: "I didn't know that. You've blown my mind."
Beau went on to say he thinks this little-known rule "ruins the game". In the comment section, it became clear others also had no idea these were the real rules. "Wow, been playing it wrong my whole life," said one person.
"This is why Monopoly takes so long. I get it now," wrote another, while a third commented: "You just ruined Monopoly for everyone."
However, some people knew the rules all along. "P***es me off when people argue against this rule. Game goes on for months if you ignore it," said one person.
Someone else wrote: "I'm a rules girl and am 100% a Monopoly girl. I love the Auction rule. Also, Free Parking is a nothing square. You don't claim money put in the middle. The money going in the middle should be paid to bank."
In the rules, it states: "Whenever a player lands on an unowned property he may buy that property from the Bank at its printed price [...] If he does not wish to buy the property it is sold at auction by the Banker to the highest bidder."

'I tried burrito challenge no one's ever completed – surprising bit was hardest'
A woman who took on an undefeated mammoth food challenge has said there was one part of the challenge she didn't anticipate struggling with - and it made her lose precious time Food challenges are not for the faint-hearted, and there's a reason so many of them go undefeated for so long. If you've ever been to an independent cafe or restaurant, you might have seen a food challenge on their menu. These are huge plates of food that often come with a time limit and are designed to be almost impossible for one person to eat. Winning a food challenge usually means getting your name put on the restaurant's wall and getting your meal for free, although some places may throw in extra goodies as well. TV shows like Man v. Food popularised the challenges, and while some restaurants in the UK do have them, they're more common in places like the US. But one woman who recently took on an undefeated food challenge has said there was a surprising part of the meal that she struggled with - and it wasn't the food itself. Katina DeJarnett, known online as Katina Eats Kilos, is a professional eater who visits restaurants all over the US to conquer their food challenges. In one recent video shared to TikTok, she went to a restaurant called Las Fresas Mexican Grill in Van Buren, Arkansas, to take on a challenge no one has ever managed to complete. The challenge consisted of a 32-inch "monster burrito," which weighed a colossal 8 lbs (3.6kg) and was packed with steak, chicken, and chorizo, as well as 1 lb (453g) of rice, 1 lb (453g) of refried beans, and a staggering 2 lbs (907g) of French fries. But that's not all. The burrito was then topped with around six cooked shrimps, and came with three dipping sauces (queso, chilli Colorado and chilli verde) that Katina had to use in order to complete the challenge. She said: "I have 45 minutes to finish all of this in order to win my meal for free, get myself a groovy T-shirt, and the very first spot up on the wall of fame here at Las Fresas." Katina started by demolishing the shrimp that were placed on top of her burrito, before moving onto the main bulk of the challenge. She cut her mammoth dish into four pieces and began by eating the two ends, which she topped with the chilli verde sauce to polish off the bowl. But surprisingly, the part Katina found the hardest about the entire challenge was the chilli Colorado sauce. She claimed that while it didn't seem spicy at first, the heat "built up" over time and soon had her struggling. She explained: "My strategy with the sauces was to start with the chilli verde and then move on to what I assumed would be the super spicy salsa, I believe it was chilli Colorado, next. Then I could move on to the queso to dampen the heat if it was too spicy for me." On her first mouthful of the chilli sauce, she declared it wasn't "too bad," but she quickly found out that she had underestimated the slow burn. She soon regretted her words - even though she believed it was "pretty mild." In a voiceover, she declared: "The heat from this one did actually end up building up over time, but if I could handle it, I think it was a pretty mild sauce and most people would be okay eating it." With her lips "on fire," Katina powered through and finished the chilli Colorado sauce along with her third chunk of burrito, leaving just one section on her plate. A time-lapse showed her devouring the final section along with all the queso sauce. Although she struggled at times and had to convince herself she was just eating "cheesy broccoli soup," she eventually managed to finish the challenge and stop the clock, finishing the challenge in just 29 minutes. At the end of her video, she said: "That was delicious, but thank god I'm done. I gotta say, I was not confident going into that one, but I'm feeling confident now. And a little bit bloated. 29 minutes and one second." Commenters on the video congratulated Katina on her ability to finish the challenge, as some said the restaurant's addition of the sauces was "diabolical". One person said: "I can't understand how that call fit in someone's stomach." Another added: "As someone who just gave birth to an 8lb baby ... oh my god girl!" While someone else wrote: "Making you finish the sauces is diabolical."

Australian astounded after visiting UK as he says Brits are 'built differently'
An Australian who visited the UK said Brits are "built differently", and there's a key reason why. He was left astounded after stopping by as he ventured on a trip to Venice An Australian who visited the UK was left astounded when he touched down in the airport. Liam Dowling was left totally floored by one thing when he landed on British soil, and claimed there's a specific reason why Brits are "built differently" to other people around the world. Liam's video has gone viral after he shared it on TikTok and his explanation left people in total hysterics. In the clip, he admitted he was travelling to Venice, but stopped at an airport in the UK on his travels and, when he called by the Wetherspoons, he couldn't get over one thing. In the video, he said: "I'm here at the Spoons airport, on my way to Venice. It's 5am - there's not a single person in here not drinking. It's 5am. "I feel like in Aus, we kind of wait until like 7am/8am - you get some looks if you're drinking in the airport at 5am. No one here gives a f***. "I reckon you could come here at 4am, and it would not matter. Like, Britian just - they don't care. Maybe it's the Europe/Aus thing, but everyone here is boozing and I love it. Bit too early for me though, so, I'm just going to stick to my coffee." The video has been viewed over 100,000 times since it's been shared, and people have been left gobsmacked by it. Natually, some Brits just couldn't stop laughing. One said: "God forbid a nation has hobbies." Another wrote: "Time doesn't exist in the airport or on Christmas Day." A third replied: "I'm Polish (we're infamous for drinking a lot) and I have been living in the UK for 10 years, but even I can't hack how they do it. Brunch time, 11ish, I can get, but 5am is crazy business." Meanwhile, a fourth also commented: "Got to a NY airport at 6am. Asked for a Bacardi and they said no alcohol til midday. I was gobsmacked." One more also quipped: "Spoons in Birmingham airport was absolutely rammed at 2am when I last went." People had all sorts of stories about drinking at airports, but many seemed to agree on one idea - time doesn't exist when you're about to hop on a plane. Many Brits couldn't help but laugh in the comments, with a cheeky pre-flight tipple appearing to be the norm for many - no matter what time it may be. Thoughts and theories were super varied, but many Brits couldn't help but make jokes about it. The video really did make many people chuckle. Another wrote: "If you think about it, 5am is just really late at night. 7am would be more unacceptable, as I consider that morning. Regardless of time though, if I'm at an airport, then I'm at Spoons drinking." One more added: "Every time I fly from Manchester Airport, I choose as early as I can 4am/5am, grab a burger and sit in the bar with a few pints and watch the planes until my gate opens. Like my father, and my father's father." Meanwhile, someone else chimed in with: "Time does not exist in airports. Except the time you've got to catch your flight - that one's important."
