Shots Fired At Radha Krishna Temple In Utah, Authorities Probe Suspected Hate Crime

A place of worship in northern Utah has become the target of repeated gunfire, raising serious concerns about a potential hate crime against the Sri Sri Radha Krishna Temple, located just off Main Street in Spanish Fork, United states.
Temple leaders say multiple shots were fired at the building over several nights in June, with bullets striking various parts of the temple's main structure—including the iconic dome, arches, and even a second-story window that opens into the main worship hall. The Utah County Sheriff's Office is investigating the case and has not ruled out the possibility of the attack being motivated by hate.
According to Fox13 and The Salt Lake Tribune, the first incident occurred on the night of June 18, when temple co-founder Vai Warden heard a loud sound near the Krishna Radio station building adjacent to the temple. At first, he thought it might have been fireworks or local teenagers playing around. But the next morning, bullet holes were discovered in temple walls and windows.
More gunfire followed later that same night and again on June 20, based on security footage reviewed by temple staff. Surveillance video captured a vehicle approaching the temple grounds, stopping near the fence, and someone opening fire from the vehicle before speeding away.
Over 20 bullets in total struck the building, including shots fired from what appeared to be over 100 yards away. Bullet holes were found high up on the temple dome and near public gathering areas, increasing fears that the shots were intentionally aimed to intimidate.
Warden added that the temple, a part of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), has never experienced this kind of violence in its three-decade history in Spanish Fork.
The Sri Sri Radha Krishna Temple was built in the early 1990s and has become a beloved landmark in Utah County. Known for its annual Holi festival, it draws thousands of visitors from across the state and beyond. It also serves as a center for cultural, spiritual, and interfaith events.
Following the shooting, temple leaders have installed enhanced security features, including new lighting, security cameras, taller fencing, and overnight patrols. A $1,000 reward has been announced for any information that leads to the identification and arrest of the suspect(s).
The Utah County Sheriff's Office is leading the investigation. Officers have collected shell casings and are reviewing video footage. So far, no arrests have been made, and authorities are asking for the public's help.
In a statement to The Salt Lake Tribune, the sheriff's office confirmed the ongoing investigation and said they are taking the case seriously, given the possible implications of religiously motivated violence.
Community members and faith leaders across Utah have expressed concern and solidarity, urging swift justice and greater protection for religious institutions.
The attack comes at a time of growing awareness about religious tolerance and the safety of minority communities in the US. Though law enforcement has not officially declared the incident a hate crime, the nature of the attack has sparked conversations about racial and religious bias, particularly against non-Christian communities in smaller towns.
'We're not going to shut our doors," Warden told ISKCON News. 'We'll keep the temple open. But this should never have happened, and we want to make sure it doesn't happen to anyone else."

Penalty of Rs 36.72 cr imposed in 8,815 fake milk cases in FY25: Govt

New Delhi, Aug 12 (PTI) The government on Tuesday informed Parliament that penalties worth Rs 36.72 crore were imposed in 8,815 cases related to fake and adulterated milk during 2024-25, marking an increase from the previous financial years. Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying S P Singh Baghel, in his written reply to the Lok Sabha, said targeted enforcement and surveillance drives are conducted during peak and festive seasons to curb milk adulteration. In FY 2024-25, special drives were conducted ahead of major festivals — in September 2024 before Diwali and in February 2025 before Holi — when demand for dairy products typically surges. The minister said that 33,405 milk samples were analysed during the year, leading to 12,057 cases being launched. Of these, conviction and penalty were imposed in 8,815 cases, resulting in Rs 36.72 crore fine. view comments First Published: August 12, 2025, 15:00 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Merchant Navy officer's wife, 32, found dead in Lucknow: Family alleges murder amid dowry harassment claims

A 32-year-old woman, married just five months ago to a Merchant Navy officer, has been found dead under suspicious circumstances at her residence in Lucknow. The woman, Madhu Singh, was discovered hanging from the ceiling. While her husband, Anurag Singh, has claimed it was a suicide, her family alleges a far darker truth: sustained dowry harassment, physical abuse and ultimately, murder. Madhu Singh married Anurag Singh on 25 February this year after meeting him through a matrimonial website. According to an NDTV report, Anurag was employed as a second officer with a Hong Kong-based ship management company. According to Madhu's family, the marriage was overshadowed from the start by demands for dowry. NDTV reported, Madhu's father, Fateh Bahadur Singh, alleging that Anurag demanded ₹ 15 lakh in dowry prior to the wedding, despite the family stating they could only afford ₹ 5 lakh. WhatsApp chats accessed by the family reportedly show Anurag insisting on the amount, stating he would limit the wedding to '150 baaratis' but would not compromise on money. Just weeks after the wedding between Anurag and Madhu, the violence allegedly began. Following the festival of Holi, Madhu returned to her parents' home after being assaulted. Her father claims the full dowry was paid at that point, after which Anurag took her back, but the abuse continued. Anurag would physically assault Madhu over trivial matters — from placing household items incorrectly to not serving alcohol the way he wanted Madhu's sister, Priya Singh, said the young woman had become isolated from her friends and family due to Anurag's controlling behaviour. 'He didn't want her to speak to anyone. We could only talk when he was out of town,' she said. Quoting Priya NDTV reports, Anurag would physically assault Madhu over trivial matters — from placing household items incorrectly to not serving alcohol the way he wanted. In an audio clip shared with the media, Madhu is heard saying, 'Mujhe bohot maara (he beat me up badly) because I didn't place the bottle in front of him while he was drinking.' In one of their final conversations, Madhu told Priya that Anurag had accused her of eyeing men on the road while she was driving. 'He hit her because she was keeping to the left side of the road,' Priya recalled. Madhu's father also accused Anurag of infidelity. According to his police complaint, Anurag recently spent a night at a local hotel with an ex-girlfriend, just days before Madhu's death. The family claims to have hotel booking records dated 31 July to support this. More distressingly, he alleges that Madhu had become pregnant but was coerced into undergoing an abortion. The discovery of intimate chats between Anurag and his ex-girlfriend further strained their relationship. On 3 August, Madhu reportedly informed her sister of yet another assault. The following day, at around 4.30 PM, Anurag informed the family that Madhu had died, hours after he claims to have found her hanging. Lucknow Police have also confirmed that Anurag ordered food online around 10:30 am that day, hours before he reportedly found Madhu dead. Anurag told police he found Madhu's body around noon and called the emergency helpline 112. However, the family says they were only informed in the late afternoon, raising questions about the timeline. Further suspicions arose when investigators found that Anurag had texted the housemaid the morning Madhu was found dead, telling her not to come in. The maid, unaware of the message, showed up and rang the bell several times without any response. Police have also confirmed to NDTV that Anurag ordered food online around 10:30 am that day, hours before he reportedly found Madhu dead. Anurag has been arrested and is being interrogated. He has been charged under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for cruelty and under provisions of the Dowry Prohibition Act. Police officials noted that during initial questioning, Anurag appeared evasive and continued asking for cigarettes while in custody. Officers are now awaiting further forensic reports, and say they are exploring all angles, including the possibility of homicide.

We want the truth to come out,' NDTV quoted her grieving father.
