HEIDELBERG, GERMANY - Newsaktuell - 31 July 2025 - Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (HEIDELBERG) has made a positive start to financial year 2025/26. Thanks to the healthy order backlog from the previous year, sales in the first quarter were well up on the previous year's figure (€ 403 million) at € 466 million. Business in Europe and Asia developed particularly positively during this period. In the case of Asia, this demonstrates that HEIDELBERG is further strengthening its position in such future markets. The adjusted operating result (EBITDA) also improved significantly, to € 20 million (corresponding quarter of previous year: € –9 million). The adjusted EBITDA margin, which did not include any special items during the reporting period, rose accordingly to 4.4 percent after three months (equivalent quarter of previous year: –2.3 percent). Besides the growing sales volume and improved production capacity utilization, the cost-cutting measures introduced by the company also had an impact in this regard. Systematically implementing both the plan for the future and efficiency improvements is having a positive effect on profitability in the current financial year. A full year after drupa, incoming orders of € 559 million in the first quarter (previous year's figure: € 701 million) continued to create a solid basis for positive business development, with the company's successful participation in the China Print trade show also playing a role."Thanks to our global market position and an improved cost basis, we have made a good start to the new financial year," said Jürgen Otto, CEO of HEIDELBERG. "Strategic measures in our core business, together with new options in the Technology segment and our move into the defense sector, give us cause to feel very confident about the prospects for the year as a whole." he added.Although the free cash flow after three months was negative, as expected, it was much improved compared with the corresponding period of the previous year. Thanks to the initiation of staffing and efficiency measures, the figure of € –68 million (previous year: € –103 million) was better than envisaged. The net result after taxes in the first quarter amounted to € –11 million, which was a big improvement on the equivalent period of the previous year (€ –42 million). As of April 1, 2025, HEIDELBERG started basing its reporting on the Print & Packaging Equipment, Digital Solutions & Lifecycle, and HEIDELBERG Technology segments. The Print & Packaging Equipment segment includes offset and flexo solutions, as well as prepress and postpress solutions for packaging and commercial printing. The Digital Solutions & Lifecycle segment covers products and activities relating to software, service, consumables, and digital printing. The HEIDELBERG Technology segment primarily comprises activities outside the company's core business, such as electromobility (Amperfied) and industry operations (production and technology solutions for third-party businesses). In the Print & Packaging Equipment segment, sales in the first quarter increased by some 42 percent to € 211 million. Digital Solutions & Lifecycle sales matched the previous year's level, totaling € 241 million. Sales after three months in the Technology Solutions segment were also at the same level as in the corresponding period of the previous year. Adjusted EBITDA improved in all the segments."Packaging printing remained a growth driver for our business in the first quarter," said David Schmedding, Chief Technology & Sales Officer at HEIDELBERG. "This development reaffirms our growth strategy – the continuous and targeted expansion of our portfolio as a systems integrator for this key market segment. Our acquisition of Polar Mohr brand rights and technology to boost the productivity of value chains in packaging and label production is a further example of this approach." he explained. As HEIDELBERG sees it, playing a leading role as a systems integrator for packaging and digital printing with hybrid printing solutions and the company's software and service business in a digital ecosystem can offer growth potential in its core business. In the Technology segment, the focus is on expanding the operation of charging infrastructure, including DC technology, and on unlocking new market segments.MoU agreed on system partnership with defense specialist VINCORIONHEIDELBERG has embarked on its first project in the defense sector and agreed a MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) on a system partnership with VINCORION Advanced Systems GmbH. This cooperation will see HEIDELBERG move into the defense market by developing, industrializing, and building power control and distribution systems for VINCORION. HEIDELBERG is aiming to become established as a reliable partner for high-quality products and gradually expand this role within the defense sector.Full-year forecast confirmedFollowing a positive start, the forecast for financial year 2025/26 is confirmed. In view of macroeconomic developments, taking into account the various opportunities and risks, and assuming the global economy does not see weaker growth than predicted by the relevant institutions, the company is expecting sales of around € 2,350 million in financial year 2025/26 (2024/25: € 2,280 million). The EBITDA margin adjusted for special items is predicted to rise to as much as 8 percent (previous year: 7.1 percent).Image material and further information about the company are available in the Investor Relations portal and Press Lounge of Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG at www.heidelberg.com Hashtag: #HeidelbergerDruckmaschinenAG

Shares in Asia rally, dollar lower against yen on Fed rate cut bets

TOKYO: Shares in Asia rose for a second consecutive session and the US dollar held most of its losses on Tuesday as investors increased bets the Federal Reserve will act to prop up the world's largest economy. US shares rallied on Monday on generally positive earnings reports and increasing bets for a September rate cut from the Fed after disappointing jobs data on Friday. Oil remained lower after output increases by OPEC+ and threats by US President Donald Trump to raise tariffs on India over its Russian petroleum purchases. Japan's Nikkei rallied, with data showing a jump in the nation's service sector activity in July. "There are signs of weakness in parts of the US economy, that plays to the view that maybe not in September, but certainly this year that the Fed's still on course to ease potentially twice," said Rodrigo Catril, senior currency strategist at National Australia Bank. MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan was up 0.6 per cent in early trade. The Nikkei climbed 0.5 per cent after falling by the most in two months on Monday. The dollar dropped 0.1 per cent to 146.96 yen. The euro was unchanged at US$1.1572, while the dollar index, which tracks the greenback against a basket of major peers, edged up 0.1 per cent after a two-day slide. Odds for a September rate cut now stand at about 94 per cent, according to CME Fedwatch, from a 63 per cent chance seen on July 28. Market participants see at least two quarter-point cuts by the end of this year. The disappointing nonfarm payrolls data on Friday added to the case for a cut by the Fed, and took on another layer of drama with Trump's decision to fire the head of labor statistics responsible for the figures. News that Trump would get to fill a governorship position at the Fed early also added to worries about politicisation of interest rate policy. Trump again threatened to raise tariffs on goods from India from the 25 per cent level announced last month, over its Russian oil purchases, while New Delhi called his attack "unjustified" and vowed to protect its economic interests. Second-quarter US earnings season is winding down, but investors are still looking forward to reports this week from companies including Walt Disney and Caterpillar. Tech heavyweights Nvidia, Alphabet and Meta surged overnight, and Palantir Technologies raised its revenue forecast for the second time this year on expectations of sustained demand for its artificial intelligence services. "Company earnings announcements continue to spur market moves," Moomoo Australia market strategist Michael McCarthy said in a note. In Japan, the S&P Global final services purchasing managers' index climbed to 53.6 in July from 51.7 in June, marking the strongest expansion since February. Oil prices were little changed after three days of declines on mounting oversupply concerns, with the potential for more Russian supply disruptions providing support. Brent crude futures were flat at US$68.76 per barrel, while US crude futures dipped 0.02 per cent to US$66.28 a barrel. Spot gold was slightly higher at US$3,381.4 per ounce. The pan-region Euro Stoxx 50 futures were up 0.2 per cent, while German DAX futures were up 0.3 per cent and FTSE futures rose 0.4 per cent. US stock futures, the S&P 500 e-minis , were up 0.2 per cent. Bitcoin was little changed at US$114,866.06 after a two-day rally.

KL to get 762,500 new homes by 2040, 40pc earmarked as affordable under DBKL plan

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 5 — Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) aims to provide up to 762,500 housing units by 2040, in line with the direction of the Kuala Lumpur Local Plan 2040 (PTKL2040), which focuses on the well-being of urban residents. Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Seri Dr Maimunah Mohd Sharif said the housing stock as of 2020 stood at 500,803 units, comprising both open market housing and affordable housing. 'Over the next 15 years, new housing development will be planned based on the increasing number of residents and households in the capital. 'Housing planning will emphasise the needs of various groups, including youth, B40 and M40 families, senior citizens and other vulnerable communities,' she told Bernama. She said the plan also introduces the provision of micro and transit units for newly working youths, compact housing for dual-income, no-kids (DINK) couples and young professionals, as well as age-friendly housing for the elderly. Maimunah said DBKL has also allocated several specific land-use zones for housing, including Residential Zone 4 (R4), designated for affordable and public housing. She said PTKL2040 emphasises the principle of inclusive development by maintaining a balance between the need for housing, access to public transportation and environmental sustainability. She added that the housing target also takes into account the potential for redevelopment of existing areas and the provision of government land in strategic locations within the city. 'The pricing of affordable housing is subject to the National Affordable Housing Policy, with a maximum price set at RM300,000 per unit, in line with initiatives such as Residensi Wilayah. 'For the Residensi Madani scheme, the maximum selling price is set at RM200,000 with a standard size of 800 square feet, while other units will be developed to meet the diverse needs of the urban community,' she said. Maimunah said PTKL2040 targets at least 40 per cent of all new housing units by 2040 to be affordable homes. The long-term plan also outlines the definition of affordable housing under two categories: rental units such as the People's Housing Project (PPR), Public Housing and Subsidised Rental Housing (PASS); and ownership units covering projects like Residensi Wilayah, Residensi Madani, the Malaysia Civil Servants Housing Programme (PPAM), PR1MA and One Staff Member One Home (SASaR). 'This initiative aims to ensure fair and sustainable access to housing for all segments of society, including low- and middle-income groups,' she said. — Bernama
