Sean "Diddy" Combs Trial: Prosecutors Drop Arson, Kidnapping Theories

The prosecution is streamlining their case against Sean 'Diddy' Combs.
As the rap mogul's federal trial for sex trafficking, racketeering and transportation to engage in prostitution—to which he has pleaded not guilty—completes its seventh week in session, the prosecution has submitted a letter to Judge Arun Subramanian, amending parts of their theories of attempted arson and kidnapping.
'The Government is no longer planning to proceed on these theories of liability,' the prosecution stated in the letter obtained by E! News, 'so instructions are no longer necessary.'
In addition to dropping parts of their argument of the first count—one count of racketeering conspiracy—the letter sought to clarify Combs' two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution.
When discussing the charges in closing statements this week, the letter notes that it is 'imperative' the jury understands that 'earlier consent is not determinative' of whether a victim was sex trafficked, adding that the same is true of forced labor, which is part of Combs' sex trafficking counts.

Additionally, the letter requests that 'the Court instruct the jury that sex trafficking/labor and payment to the victim for that conduct are not mutually exclusive.'
Combs currently faces five counts in his federal trial—the aforementioned counts as well as two for transportation to engage in prostitution. The letter from the prosecution comes shortly after Combs' team rested their defense after only 20 minutes June 24, and the 55-year-old waived his right to testify.
'We have discussed it thoroughly, that is my decision,' Combs—who has been in federal custody since his September arrest—told the judge of his decision to not take the stand. 'That is totally my decision, I am making it.'
In his rare statement addressing the court, Combs—whose team has motioned for a mistrial multiple times—also expressed gratitude for how Subramanian has handled the case thus far.
'I'm doing great, your honor,' Combs told the judge, 'wanted to tell you thank you, you're doing an excellent job.'

How Jurassic World Rebirth Director Honored Steven Spielberg

Originally appeared on E! Online Gareth Edwards may have directed Jurassic World Rebirth, but he wants to take viewers back to how he felt watching the original film over 30 years ago. The British filmmaker recently shared what it's meant to him to have the chance to work on the follow-up to Steven Spielberg's 1993 Jurassic Park written by the original film's writer David Koepp, and, in turn, pay homage to the original director's iconic work. "As I started turning each page," Edwards exclusively told E! News' Erin Lim Rhodes of receiving the script, "each encounter is like its own mini movie, and its own genre in a way, and it feels like a love letter to an early Spielberg film of some sort." While it felt strange to create this new take on the original, he felt confident knowing that Spielberg himself, who served as an executive producer on the film, entrusted him with the task. "I would've thought it was sacrilegious, you can't do that," he explained, before joking about his deep bond with Spielberg. "But the fact that it was Steven himself—I call him Steven now, we're close friends—the fact that it was Mr. Spielberg handing you this script, you feel like I've got a bit of license. This is never going to happen in my wildest dreams ever again, so you've got to do it." And that's why Edwards, 50, doesn't take the opportunity to work on such a classic film franchise for granted. "You can't get used to it," he emphasized. "That's so surreal and so weird, you can pretend it's a dream, like I think I'm going to wake up, like in Back to the Future, and lthis whole thing, this whole last year or so, was just an illusion." Ultimately, the director wanted to replicate the way he felt while watching the original film for today's viewers of the new installment. "I was 17 when the original Jurassic Park came out and that was the year I went to film school," he reflected. "This movie is a very selfish act, trying to recreate how I felt when I watched that first movie." He added that he wants to "take kids, and big kids, on that rollercoaster ride." Diddy trial live updates: Closing arguments to begin in Sean Combs's sex trafficking case

After more than six weeks, dozens of witnesses and hundreds of bottles of baby oil presented as evidence, we are nearly at the end of Sean 'Diddy' Combs's federal sex-trafficking and racketeering conspiracy trial. After the prosecution and defense deliver dueling closing arguments, the jury will probably begin deliberating by the end of this week or Monday on charges that could put Combs, 55, in prison for the rest of his life.

BBC Introduces News Paywall for U.S. Users

U.S. users of the BBC will have to pay for their news from now on. The U.K. news channel, with BBC Studios, is introducing a paywall model starting at $49.99 per year or $8.99 per month. The broadcaster added on Thursday that this could be extended to ad-free doc series and films, early release podcasts and newsletters in the coming months. The organisation's website reaches 139 million visitors globally, including nearly 60 million in the U.S. alone. Rebecca Glashow, CEO BBC Studios Global Media & Streaming said the goal is to serve U.S. audiences 'better than ever before'. 'Today, the next phase of that vision becomes reality. We're bringing more of the BBC's trusted, high-quality content together in one powerful, easy-to-access destination,' she continued. 'Over the next few months, as we test and learn more about audience needs and habits, additional long-form factual content will be added to the offer for paying users. This is a major milestone and just the beginning of an exciting new chapter.' In the new move, all users visiting the site from within the U.S. — ascertained by a device's geolocation — will be assessed based on how they interact with BBC content, including how much they read and how long they stay. This approach allows casual readers to 'explore freely, while offering our most engaged users the opportunity to unlock even more,' the BBC also said. 'It's a premium experience designed to keep visitors informed and connected — while directly supporting the future of independent, fact-based reporting.' Visitors who choose not to pay will still have access to select global breaking news stories, BBC Radio 4 and BBC World Service radio livestreams, BBC World Service Languages sites, and a variety of free newsletters and podcasts. U.K. licence fee payers working or vacationing in the U.S. will still be able to access their usual content via the BBC News app, if they have installed the latest versions before traveling.
