Yankees legends Mariano Rivera, Jorge Posada and more will return for the decade's first Old-Timers' Day
On Saturday, August 9, the Yankees will host their 77th Old-Timers' Day, marking the first full-scale return of the on-field alumni game since 2019. The midday event—complete with tributes, player introductions and a few innings of hardball—will honor the 25th anniversary of the Yankees' 2000 World Series win over the Mets.
Fans can expect a stacked lineup of legends from that championship squad. Hall of Famer Mariano Rivera, catcher Jorge Posada, lefty ace Andy Pettitte and other fan favorites like David Cone, Tino Martinez and 'El Duque' Orlando Hernández will all suit up once more. The roster even includes some first timers to the event: Roger Clemens, David Justice, Alfonso Soriano and José Vizcaíno are making their Old-Timers' Day debuts.
In total, more than 40 former Yankees will take the field, including Monument Park inductees like Paul O'Neill, Ron Guidry, Bernie Williams, and manager Joe Torre. Longtime fans may also spot familiar faces from decades past, like Bucky Dent and Graig Nettles, plus representatives for club legends Thurman Munson, Billy Martin and Bobby Murcer.
After a pandemic-era pivot to ceremonies and Q&As, the return of live on-field action is a welcome shift. The YES Network will air the full festivities, with coverage starting at 11:30am and player introductions kicking off promptly at noon, led by Michael Kay. The Old-Timers' game will immediately follow, ahead of the Yankees' afternoon matchup against the Astros.
One notable absence? Derek Jeter, MVP of the 2000 World Series, who's reportedly skipping the event for a family birthday.
Still, the day promises a nostalgia-fueled celebration of one of the franchise's most dominant eras—and a rare chance to see the Bronx Zoo legends back in action, even if only for a few innings.

The bravado isn't solely limited to smacking 13 homers while being 7-0 against the A's this season. The Angels are coming off a three-game sweep of the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers in the Freeway Series to finish off a clean 6-0 sweep of the season series. Suddenly, the Angels are just three games below .500 and are creeping into the American League wild-card race. They stood five games behind the New York Yankees for the third and final wild card entering Thursday's play. "I hope this is a good wake-up call for all of us that whatever we do, however we prepare and get ready to play a world champ like that and we swept them, that's the same mentality, the same energy, same motivation we've got to have the rest of the way," Angels closer Kenley Jansen said. "It's great to sweep them, but I want to get to the postseason." Logan O'Hoppe delivered the decisive two-run single in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Angels a 6-5 victory over the Dodgers on Wednesday night. It was a feel-good moment for the catcher, who had 14 homers at the conclusion of May and just four since. "It's one I've wanted for a while," O'Hoppe said of the winning hit. "Obviously, the past couple months haven't felt right. ... I got a pitch to hit and I'm happy I got it." O'Hoppe was one of the Angels who terrorized the A's in a four-game sweep in West Sacramento in May. He was 8-for-18 with four homers and six RBIs. Taylor Ward was 9-of-18 with two homers and nine RBIs in that series. He homered in each of the final two games against the Dodgers and has team-leading marks of 29 homers and 90 RBIs. Still, Athletics manager Mark Kotsay said Hernaiz is an improved player over the guy who batted .192 in 120 at-bats in 2024. "Defensively, it's night and day different," Kotsay told reporters. "From the offensive side, the power is showing up. He battles with the two strikes. He's changed that approach a little bit, which I love. This is a great opportunity for Darell. He's leaving a great impression." The A's will send rookie right-hander Jack Perkins (1-2, 4.08 ERA) to the mound against Los Angeles left-hander Yusei Kikuchi (6-7, 3.37) in the opening game. Perkins, 25, earned his first big league victory with six strong innings against the Baltimore Orioles last Saturday. He gave up three runs and three hits. Kikuchi, 34, has won two straight starts. He beat the Detroit Tigers on Saturday, allowing four runs and eight hits over five innings. He excelled against the Athletics on June 9 when he allowed one hit over 7 1/3 shutout innings. Giancarlo Stanton vies to fuel Yankees to sweep of Twins
August 13 - The New York Yankees are spending the past few days praising the willingness of Giancarlo Stanton to play right field until Aaron Judge is able to return to the mix. The Yankees also are enjoying Stanton's hot streak at the plate. The slugger is coming off his first four-hit performance in nearly two years heading into Wednesday when New York attempts to finish off a three-game sweep of the visiting Minnesota Twins. The Yankees are 4-2 in their past six contests following a five-game losing streak. In Tuesday's 9-1 rout, Stanton went 4-for-5 for his first four-hit game since Aug. 24, 2023. The Yankees collected 11 hits and 11 walks to get on the verge of their first series sweep since beating the Seattle Mariners July 8-10 during their five-game winning streak. "I feel good," Stanton said. "Putting together good at-bats, the timing's there." Stanton homered, doubled and had two singles, including a two-run base hit. He ended his third game in right field while Judge fully recovers from an elbow injury with a .300 average and is 8-for-13 in his past four contests. "It's been impressive," Judge said of Stanton, who homered in consecutive games for the third time this season and has eight homers in his past 18 contests. "Besides the homers and clutch hits, he's using the whole field. Ever since he's come back he's been dialed in." The Twins are on a nine-game losing streak to the Yankees and 5-28 in the regular season in New York over their past 33 visits. After winning four of their previous five games heading into the series, the Twins have mustered four hits in the series. On Tuesday, Austin Martin hit a leadoff single and the Twins only scored when Royce Lewis avoided a double play. After loading the bases in the first inning, Minnesota had one baserunner the rest of the way. Minnesota also issued a season-worst 11 walks after permitting two and getting 12 strikeouts in Monday's 6-2 loss. "I'd say our strike throwing wasn't too good today and it has to be significantly better," Minnesota manager Rocco Baldelli said. "That's no secret." Right-hander Joe Ryan (11-5, 2.79 ERA), who has allowed two earned runs or fewer in 17 starts, will get the nod on Wednesday for the Twins. He last pitched Thursday at home against Kansas City and allowed one run on four hits in five innings of a 9-4 win. Ryan is 5-2 with a 2.55 ERA in 11 road starts this season. He is 2-2 with a 3.86 ERA in four career starts against the Yankees. Fellow right-hander Cam Schlittler (1-2, 4.38) makes his sixth career start and first versus Minnesota. He has not allowed more than three runs each time out.
