Defence exports to go up after Op Sindoor, says Secretary Defence R&D
New Delhi [India], May 29 (ANI): Export of indigenous defence equipment will witness an uptick following Operation Sindoor as it is 'war-tested' now, Chairperson of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) Samir V Kamat said on Thursday.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Annual Business Summit-2025 in the national capital, Kamat said that weapons used during the 'Operation Sindoor' have built confidence among importing countries.
'I am hopeful that exports will increase after Operation Sindoor because now these (equipments) have been war-tested,' said Kamat, the Secretary Defence R&D and DRDO chairman.
The Defence R&D chairman said that following the four-day military conflict with Pakistan earlier this month India's defence sector is attracting a lot of attention.
'After Operation Sindoor, I sincerely hope that exports will increase because they have just been tested. Equipment and other countries will show a lot of interest in buying them right now,' said Kamat.
He said that India is already exporting defence equipment to over hundred countries and there are possibility that this number will go up after this operation.
'Already we are exporting to hundred countries, then I sincerely hope that this equipment will go to the hundred Countries and some other countries who are not buying us right now will also be interested in buying our equipment right now,' he told reporters.
Kamat further added that the recently approved execution model of the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) programme will open up the participation of private sector for fighter aircraft development.
The defence ministry had on May 27 approved the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) Programme Execution Model, a key step to boost India's indigenous defence capabilities and strengthen the domestic aerospace industry.
The Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) is set to execute the programme through industry partnership.
The Execution Model approach provides equal competitive opportunities to the private and public sectors. They can bid either independently, as joint ventures, or as consortia.
The entity/bidder should be an Indian company compliant with the laws and regulations of the country, the statement said.
'In this execution model, the HAL can bid. Private sector can bid. They can also bid as a joint venture. So this will open a participation of private sector four fighter aircraft,' Kamat added.
Kamat said that the development should be completed by 2034, and then the production will start by 2035. He said the first prototype flight will be ready by the end of 2029.
Earlier in his address at the CII plenary event, Rajnath Singh said that that under the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) project, the Government, with industry participation plans to develop five prototypes of the 5th generation fighter aircraft, which will later lead to series production.
Addressing the Annual Summit of the CII in the national capital, Singh said the decision should be considered a milestone in the history of the 'Make in India' programme.
The project, he said, will promote self-reliance (Atmanirbharta) in the defence field.
Through the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft programme Execution Model, the private sector will get an opportunity to participate in a mega defence project along with public sector companies for the first time. (ANI)

‘With support of your friends in China…': Shashi Tharoor censures Pakistan, Beijing for shielding terror group at UN
Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, who is currently leading an all-party delegation overseas, attacked Pakistan and China for preventing Lashkar-e-Taiba's 'The Resistance Front' (TRF) from being named in a UNSC statement. Tharoor alleged that Pakistan, 'with the support of their friends in China', made sure that the front is not named in a press statement made by the United Nations Security Council. While interacting with Ambassador Celso Amorim, Head Adviser of the Special Advisory to the President of Brazil, Tharoor pointed out that India tried to raise the issue of LeT-backed terror group the Resistance Front before the UN Sanctions Committee multiple times, but the action was blocked by China's support to Pakistan. Tharoor said, 'LeT (Lashkar-e-Taiba) has created this front called Resistance Front, we have been reporting about Resistance Front to UN Sanctions Committee, time after time. They (TRF) claimed credit for the killings, and the next day they repeated that claim. But when they realised the gravity of it, their handlers in Pakistan got them to delete the claim. Punjab man held for sharing sensitive info with Pakistan during Op Sindoor
A man hailing from Punjab's Tarn Taran district was arrested for allegedly sharing sensitive information related to the army's movements during Operation Sindoor with Pakistani intelligence operatives, a top police officer said on Tuesday. Police also recovered a mobile phone containing information, which he shared with the Pakistani Intelligence Operatives (PIOs). The accused was allegedly in contact with Pakistan's intelligence agency Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and also received money for passing on sensitive information, the police sad. Director General of Police Gauarv Yadav said the accused has been identified as Gagandeep Singh alias Gagan, a resident of Mohalla Rodupur, Gali Nazar Singh Wali, in TarnTaran. He was arrested in a joint operation of the Tarn Taran police and the Counter Intelligence wing of police. 'Arrested accused had been in contact with the #Pakistan #ISI and (Pakistan based Khalistani supporter) Gopal Singh Chawla, sharing sensitive information concerning army movements during #OperationSindoor,' the DGP said in a post on X. Investigations said the accused was engaged in sharing classified details, including troop deployments and strategic locations, posing a threat to national security. Gagandeep had been in touch with Khalistani supporter Gopal Singh Chawla for the past five years, through whom he was introduced to the PIOs, Yadav said. 'He also received payments from #PIOs via #Indianchannels,' he further said. Recovered a mobile phone containing intelligence that he shared with the PIOs, as well as the details of over 20 ISI contacts, he said. Thorough financial and technical investigations are underway to trace other linkages and establish the full scope of this espionage network, the DGP added. An FIR has been registered under the Official Secrets Act at Police Station City, Tarn Taran, and further investigation is in progress, he added. Punjab Police remains committed to safeguarding the sovereignty and integrity of the nation and will take all necessary actions against those involved in anti-national activities, he said. Under Operation Sindoor, the Indian armed forces carried out pre-dawn missile strikes on May 7 on nine terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, including the Jaish-e-Mohammad stronghold of Bahawalpur and Lashkar-e-Taiba's base in Muridke, in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives. Earlier, police had arrested six persons, including a woman from Malerkotla district, for allegedly spying for Pakistan.
