Wrestling legend dead at age 60 with WWE world left devastated
He was 60. A cause of death has not been disclosed, according to PWInsider.com.
Sabu, real name Terry Brunk, had his retirement match against Joey Janela last month, The New York Post reports.
A high flyer who became famous for his work in hardcore matches featuring tables, ladders, chairs, barbed wire and more, Sabu became known as 'the suicidal, homicidal, genocidal, death–defying maniac.'
Sabu, the nephew of former wrestling star The Sheik, was a two-time ECW world heavyweight champion, also winning their world television championship and capturing tag team gold three times.

He was one of the faces of hardcore wrestling as its popularity increased in the '90s.
After a run with TNA, joined WWE in 2006 when the company, which had previously purchased ECW, launched a new weekly show for the brand.
Sabu was part of the ECW Originals team that defeated The New Breed in an eight-man tag team match at WrestleMania 23 on April 1, 2007. He was released by WWE a month later.
WWE said in a statement it was 'saddened' by Sabu's death and described him as 'a pioneer of hardcore wrestling.'
Sabu, who has also made appearances for WCW, New Japan Pro-Wrestling and AAA, wrestled in various independent promotions before making two appearances for AEW in 2023, which culminated with him being the special enforcer for a match between Adam Cole and Chris Jericho.
'AEW and the wrestling world mourns the passing of Sabu,' the official AEW X account posted on Monday morning (AEST).
'From barbed wire battles to unforgettable high-risk moments, Sabu gave everything to professional wrestling. Our thoughts are with his family, his friends and his fans.'
Rob Van Dam, a longtime wrestling star who was a tag team champion with Sabu in ECW, simply posted an emoji of an index finger pointing up on his X account, a nod to Sabu's signature pose.
Taz, another ECW standout who worked for WWE and is currently an announcer for AEW, said the news of Sabu's death 'breaks my heart.'
'I would not have had the career that I have had, and I've been blessed to have, if it wasn't for Sabu. That man got me over, and he didn't have to get me over, and he did,' Taz said in a video posted on X.
'A great heart and soul. I'm gonna miss him immensely.'

On the latest episode of her Are you a Charlotte? podcast, Kristin Davis claimed that Sarah Jessica Parker confronted her about her body image issues when they were filming Sex and the City. 'There were times when Sarah Jessica would be like, 'You have body dysmorphia,'' Davis, 60, told guest Benito Skinner, reports the New York Post. 'I'd be like, 'I don't think I do,' because the world is literally telling me daily that I am pear-shaped,' Davis continued. 'So much to the point where you can't think straight'. The And Just Like That star added that the talk about her body at the time led to her having 'disordered eating'. 'You're starving yourself. I remember fainting in a parking lot one time, because I was on some crazy diet,' she recalled. Davis also explained how her interactions with fans further complicated her body image struggles. 'There was a good number of years when we were on the old school, in your televisions, HBO proper, and when people would see me on the street here or in New York, they would say, 'Oh, but you're not fat,' ' Davis said. 'I know they didn't mean anything bad. They mean it as a compliment,' she told Skinner. 'But it's because I'm standing next to Sarah Jessica.' Davis and Parker, 60, starred on Sex and the City with Cynthia Nixon and Kim Cattrall from 1998 to 2004. The stars, except Cattrall, returned for the sequel series And Just Like That which is ending on Thursday after three seasons. Before SATC, Davis played Brooke Armstrong on Melrose Place and similarly dealt with body image issues during that time. In February, Davis revealed that she was told not to gain weight when she was on the Fox soap opera. 'There was a general vibe on the set though, that was difficult, about the thinness situation,' she told the US magazine People, adding, 'Every single person was gorgeous and super skinny. So I was like, 'This is what I have to do.' ' Davis said that she hired a running coach and did back-to-back 90-minute spin classes to look a certain way. 'I was frustrated. I was trying to do the thing,' she shared. 'Of course, I'm sure I wasn't eating, I have no idea. I don't remember the eating part.'

Aussie cult hero Archie Wilson's family have shown just how close the family is as they revealed a text message the punter sent before his emotional video spread across the globe. The American football punter, who has been recruited by the University of Nebraska, on Wednesday went viral for showing his emotions in front of cameras in the United States. Wilson, who is celebrating his 19th birthday, was in tears when asked about homesickness living on the other side of the world to his family — dad Lee, mum Jessica and brothers Oscar and Lewis. American fans wrapped their arms around the talented punter with many applauding the teenager for showing his raw emotion. The punter's family on Thursday morning appeared on breakfast TV and showed exactly why homesickness has been such a difficult thing for the talented teenager to deal with. Lee and Jessica told The Today Show they have spoken with their eldest son several times since the video of his press conference melted hearts across the United States. Lee said the family have been assured Archie is happy living abroad and even revealed they received a message from Archie before learning the video of his reply to a reporter was going viral. 'He sent us a message to say he was OK,' Lee said. 'He said to ignore the press conference before we'd actually watched it. So we watched it straight away.' One of his brothers was also seen wiping a tear away during the family's appearance on The Today Show. 'It happened quickly,' Lee said. 'It sort of took us all by surprise when we watch it. The tears started. There was a bit of a family hug and then we sat in quiet and processed it a little bit. 'We miss him a lot, obviously.' Jessica said after his first emotional press conference her son went on to do 'another hour' of speaking to reporters. 'He cleary misses us and the question caught him off guard,' she said. The family will be reunited with Archie in 11 days. It has been 10 weeks since they were last with him — when they toured the facilities at the University in June. Wilson has gambled everything in chasing his dream as a punter in the United States after getting the attention of talent scouts through the Australian-based ProKick academy production line of Aussie punters. The NFL has a long, deep, proud tradition of Aussie punters in the NFL — and Wilson next year hopes he can achieve his dream. For now, though, his dream is to make a strong impression when he suits up for his college football team when their season begins on August 28. Even before making his debut, Wilson is a cult figure with Nebraska 'Cornhuskers' fans. His story has only just begun. Speaking to Sunrise on Thursday morning, Wilson's mum Jessica said Archie was simply missing his family when celebrating his birthday without them for the first time. 'I spoke to him straight away and he was absolutely fine,' she said. 'He got emotional, it was his birthday yesterday/today American time, so I think the emotion of not having us there on his first birthday away just got to him at that one point.' Lee told Channel 7 the family is staying grounded amid the international headlines created by yesterday's presser. 'We're really trying not to get too far ahead of it because there's an enormity of a task at hand he's got to go out and do, and we're trying to just keep the lid on all of it,' Lee said, with their other two sons by their side. 'But it seems to have blown up and got away from everyone. 'It's a bit of a new world for us, we're not those sort of people.' She went on to say the family is 'extremely proud' of their boy. Earlier, Towards the end of his media appearance, Wilson was asked how it felt to be so far away from his family. The question hit the teen as the emotion spilt out in sad scenes. 'That part's hard. I mean … I'm sorry,' Wilson said as the tears began to flow. 'I love them a lot. I got two little brothers, and my mum and dad. That's the tough part about being here. I love them a lot and I miss them.' Moving halfway across the world to chase his dream wasn't easy, but he was already looking forward to his family coming over later this month. 'They know this is what's best for me,' he said. 'It's good I can still talk to them plenty over the phone. They're coming here to see the first few games, so I'm looking forward to that.'
