Alex Rodriguez sees Napheesa Collier following his path as he takes control of Timberwolves, Lynx
The Yankees great — who made the jump from MLB superstar to CEO of A-Rod Corp., and now co-owner of the NBA's Timberwolves and the WNBA's Lynx — heaped praise on Lynx veteran Napheesa Collier for building a business empire while in the prime of her career.
'Napheesa is an incredible example and role model for other athletes, both men and women, that you can take something in sports and not take your eye off the ball, but yet build something really equally as special on the business side,' Rodgriguez told The Post while speaking on behalf of his partnership with Lysol. 'So, hats off to her.'

Collier, a five-time WNBA All-Star and 2024 Euroleague Champion, and the Liberty's Breanna Stewart founded Unrivaled, which is a 3v3 professional women's basketball league that plays in Miami during the WNBA offseason — offering the highest average salaries in women's sports history, equity in the league, top-tier amenities, housing and childcare.
Collier, who is averaging 23.5 points and 7.7 assists, is in the conversation for MVP after being a runner-up last season to Aces star A'ja Wilson, who won her third career MVP award.

The NBA Board of Governors unanimously approved the sale of the controlling interest in the Timberwolves and Lynx to Rodriguez and Marc Lore last month following four years as limited partners.
The 2009 World Series champion said he's using knowledge passed down to him by former Yankees owner, George Steinbrenner, who died in 2010.

'I gotta tell you, I played for almost 25 years in the major leagues and to be able to take some of my practices that I've learned from the life of George Steinbrenner, who was a great boss and an incredible role model,' Rodriguez said. 'He expected only the best, so I was able to learn from the best in the business, that was great.

'Over the last four years [as a limited partner], I've done an incredible amount of listening and learning and studying … and we have so many incredible governors in our game. We have an amazing commissioner Adam Silver, who said, 'I want you to do a lot of listening, not a lot of talking and just be a student and learn from some of the great partners.''

The Timberwolves' season ended in a Game 5 loss to the Thunder in the Western Conference finals — the second straight year Minnesota fell one round short of its first trip to the NBA Finals.
With the second half of the WNBA season underway, the league-leading Lynx (22-5) are poised for a second consecutive trip to the Finals after falling to the Liberty last season.

'I'm really proud,' said Rodriguez, a 14-time MLB All-Star. 'The last two years for the Timberwolves, we've been in the final four of 30 teams. And the Lynx, last year were the final two, came down to the wire, we lost to the Liberty.
'And this year, we were off to a hot start with the Lynx. It's an exciting time. Folks in Minnesota have been very supportive and it's an incredible sports town.'

Rodriguez was also complimentary of Nets owners Clara and Joe Tsai, who bought the Liberty from James Dolan for a reported $10 to $14 million in 2019.
The Liberty's valuation is on track to increase to $450 million after the installation of the team's new $80 million practice facility in Greenpoint.
'She's a powerhouse,' Rodriguez said of Clara. 'I really have a lot of respect and admiration for Claire Tsai and Joe, of course.'

2025 MLB odds, lines: Trade deadline winners and losers from a betting perspective
It was an incredibly busy 2025 MLB trade ddeadline, with a dizzying array of deals right before the 6 p.m. ET Thursday deadline. NL contenders like the New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies improved, the Minnesota Twins traded 10 players off their roster (including Carlos Correa going back to Houston) and the San Diego Padres executed yet another stunning deadline deal. In all, there were 52 trades in the final 48 hours and 14 in the final half hour before the deadline. When the dust settled, the MLB landscape changed and plenty of World Series odds shifted. "The Mariners made my favorite moves at the deadline," BetMGM trader Halvor Egeland said Friday. "They had such a gap in their offense. I've thought they've been a few moves away for 3-4 years now. The rotation has been awesome, but now that lineup doesn't have a huge hole. I firmly believe they're a World Series contender, and I don't know if I would've said that before adding those two bats in Josh Naylor and Eugenio Suarez." Seattle had 28-1 odds to win the World Series before the deadline, and got as low as 15-1 before settling at 18-1. Caesars Sportsbook MLB trader Eric Biggio told me the Texas Rangers (40-1 to 28-1) and San Diego Padres (28-1 to 18-1) were the two teams whose odds shifted the most at his book. Here are some of the other MLB teams that had the most notable changes to their World Series odds at BetMGM due to deadline moves. Winners San Diego Padres Pre-deadline odds: 35-1 Current: 17-1 Egeland: "They may not have much of a future with how they acted, but the present looks pretty good. Already had a dominant bullpen and then they get Mason Miller, who has one of the best arms in baseball. Even little trades like Nestor Cortes, they're going all out. They're three games behind the Dodgers, so you can't just write in L.A. now [as the division winner]. They also just swept the Mets. They went all out once again. They didn't trade Dylan Cease, so they kept their pitching. The doubt may be that they don't have the deepest starting pitching. The only thing holding them back is they're in the NL." Texas Rangers Pre-deadline odds: 66-1 Current: 25-1 Egeland: "They're an interesting one. We've been kind of shortening even before deadline moves. They already had the strength of starting pitching, but grabbing Merrill Kelly was a big move. That's an awesome rotation now. BetMGM traders thought they were a threat this offseason. We think the AL West, any one of those three teams can make a run in the playoffs, so Rangers I would consider a win. A little bit of a team we always had our eye on, so we'd like to be short on. Won 12 of their last 16." Houston Astros Pre-deadline odds: 13-1 Current: 11-1 Egeland: "Another big winner, a team that's going for it. Awesome to see Carlos Correa coming back — one of the deals you heard happening and wrote off. Added [Jesus] Sanchez from Mariners and [Ramon] Urias — two quality bats, and they have some pitching coming back from injuries." New York Mets Pre-deadline odds: 13-1 Current: +850 Egeland: "You have to like what the Mets did. Their primary needs were bullpen and center field. They shocked the world in less than an hour [getting Ryan Helsley]. They went from having an average, at best, bullpen to having the best, maybe for a few minutes before the Padres got Miller. Cedric Mullens is another great add. I think a lot of Mets fans wanted Luis Robert, but price was too steep. Mullens solidifies center field, and New York didn't give up any of the younger guys in the lineup now. Philadelphia Phillies Pre-deadline odds: +950 Current: +850 Egeland: "Another team that got better. Jhoan Duran is going to be electric in Philly. Another high-leverage arm with a big price tag. Harrison Bader is a great defender and has his moments offensively. Yet another NL contender." Losers Detroit Tigers Pre-deadline odds: +650 Current: +950 Egeland: "A little performance-wise as well. You have to be disappointed at what Detroit did. With how the AL is and the Tigers seemingly one of the top contenders, you would've hoped they would have done more." Milwaukee Brewers (13-1 to 18-1) and Chicago Cubs (10-1 to 12-1) Egeland: "Both teams you would've expected to do more. Similar to Dodgers, we still hold them in high regard, but other teams improved more." Candace Parker calls effort in WNBA All-Star Game ‘awful'
Seven-time WNBA All-Star Candace Parker was unimpressed by the effort in the All-Star Game. Parker criticized the game on a podcast that aired Wednesday, calling it 'awful.' 'Y'all cannot come out there with those shirts of 'Pay Us What You Owe Us' and then do that,' Parker told All-Star Aliyah Boston on their new podcast 'Post Moves.' Parker was referencing the warmup shirts both teams wore at the July 19 game in response to failed collective-bargaining negotiations with the league earlier that week. Players are fighting for higher pay and better benefits, among other improvements. The game set a WNBA All-Star record for points scored and Napheesa Collier set the individual scoring mark with 36 points. Team Collier beat Team Clark 151-131. Defense was at a minimum as the league's stars allowed each other to get shots up without contest. It wasn't unlike the all-star games across other pro leagues, but Parker was looking for more from WNBA players at a time when they're in the spotlight. 'I think on one of the biggest stages, in an All-Star setting that was invested in more than any other All-Star game previously. … I think it would've really maximized the moment.' Fever forward Boston, who played on Team Clark, defended the performance of her and her peers. 'An All-Star Game, where we have another game in two days, I think that it's OK to just go out there and hoop and have some fun,' she said. 'Because on Tuesday, we were back at it, and we were playing and we were showing once again why we deserve to get paid.'
