'When you learn to drive on Indian roads': Truck driver takes wrong U-turn, kills 3 in Florida

Time of India2 days ago
The video of an Indian-origin driver taking a wrong U-turn killing 3 in Florida went viral.
The video of a semi-truck taking a wrong U-turn on the Florida Turnpike, killing 3 went viral as social media users claimed that the driver must be from India. According to the Florida Highway Patrol's crash report, the semi-truck was driving northbound in the right lane of the Turnpike as a Chrysler Town & Country minivan was traveling north in the Turnpike's left lane.
From the right lane, the semi-truck attempted to make a U-turn at an 'official use only' turn-around area near mile marker 171, crossing in front of the vehicle in the left lane.
The driver of the vehicle was unable to avoid the truck, wedging the minivan underneath the truck.
Two passengers inside the minivan, a 37-year-old woman from Pompano Beach and a 54-year-old man from Miami, died at the scene of the crash. The driver of the Chrysler, a 30-year-old man from Florida City, was flown to HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital, where he died from his injuries.
The driver of the semi-truck and the passenger, both men in their 20s from California, did not sustain any injuries.
"Two Punjabi drivers make an illegal turn in Florida, which k!lled 3 people. This is what happens when you learn to drive on Indian roads and become a driver in the US," one post claimed. The identity of the driver and the passenger of the semi has not been revealed.
As the video went viral, social media users questioned that the driver must have got his license in America, notwithstanding where he learned to drive, and therefore slamming India for the accident is not justified. "This is the fault of the driver not the road or growing up in India. He knew the risks. he went for it anyway just to save 2 minutes of time. Dont make excuses for them. He would have done this after living in us for 20 years too," one wrote.

Truck Driver's Illegal U-Turn Kills Three In Florida; Dashcam Video Shows Horrifying Moment

Last Updated: The driver, identified as Harjinder Singh, has been living in the United States illegally since 2018, according to officials. A California-based semi-truck driver has been arrested after a reckless U-turn on the Florida Turnpike led to a crash that killed three people, authorities confirmed. The driver, identified as Harjinder Singh, has been living in the United States illegally since 2018, according to officials. A video of the incident, captured from inside the truck's cab, shows Singh suddenly attempting a U-turn at an 'Official Use Only" median opening. Seconds later, an oncoming car slams into the trailer, resulting in the fatal collision. 'These are the alleged semi-truck drivers who killed three people while making a U-turn at an 'Official Use Only' turn on the Florida Turnpike. The Florida Highway Patrol is describing the wreck as a homicide investigation," wrote one individual while sharing footage of the crash online. The video, which has since gone viral, shows Singh remaining seemingly unfazed in the cabin as the horrific crash unfolds. A White House Rapid Response post later addressed the case, stating: 'This individual is an illegal immigrant who was granted a commercial driver's license by the State of California — and now, three innocent people are dead. He has been arrested for vehicular homicide and an ICE detainer has been issued." The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles condemned the incident, describing Singh's actions as both reckless and criminal. 'The actions taken by the Defendant while operating a commercial tractor-trailer are both shocking and criminal," said Dave Kerner, Executive Director of the department. 'Three people lost their lives as a result of his recklessness, and countless friends and family members will experience the pain of their loss forever." Kerner added that Singh is facing state vehicular homicide charges and immigration violations. 'He will no longer be able to damage and destroy the lives of Floridians and visitors. At the conclusion of his state charges, he will be deported. The Florida Highway Patrol remains committed to enforcing both state and federal law to ensure that people that are a danger to others face justice behind bars." view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
