Chinese Man Accused Of Groping Woman While Performing CPR On Busy Street
A local teachers' organisation conducted an internal investigation into Pan, but no formal charges were filed against him
A 42-year-old Chinese man is under investigation after people accused him of groping a woman while performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on her. The woman collapsed on a street in Hengyang, central Hunan province, leading a female doctor to rush to her aid and begin chest compressions.
When the doctor grew tired, she called for help. The man, Pan, stepped in, saying that he had a degree in clinical medicine and CPR training. Together, the two took turns performing chest compressions for about ten minutes. The doctor monitored the woman's vitals and instructed a relative to call an ambulance, as per The South China Morning Post.
Their joint effort revived the woman, who regained a weak pulse, opened her eyes, and was taken to the hospital for further treatment.
Soon, a video of Pan and the doctor went viral on the internet, where some users alleged that his hand placement during CPR was inappropriate.
Facing criticism despite giving a much-needed medical treatment, Pan told the media, 'I am afraid. If I had known I would be punished, I would not have taken the initiative to help. I am so painfully disappointed," as per South China Morning Post. 'If my CPR techniques were incorrect, the medical personnel would have mentioned it out. But so far, no one has."
Many others also came out in support of Pan and praised him for his good Samaritan behaviour.
According to reports, a local teachers' organisation conducted an internal investigation into Pan, but no formal charges were filed against him. One of the witnesses, a man named Deng, defended Pan's behaviour and stated that the situation was 'critical," and that no one believed Pan groped her chest.
Research by American Heart Association and St John Ambulance finds many bystanders, particularly men, hesitate to perform CPR on women due to fears of being accused of inappropriate touching or sexual assault. One study found that such fears contribute to lower CPR rates for women (39%) compared to men (45%).

Haryana Police arrests wanted criminal with Rs 5,000 bounty in Mewat

JDA demolishes residential house of drug peddler built on its land in Jammu
Agency: PTI Jammu, Jul 21 (PTI) Jammu Development Authority (JDA) on Monday demolished a residential house allegedly illegally constructed by a drug peddler on the authority's land in Jammu city, officials said. The property belonged to Reena alias Roopa, wife of Bobby, a notorious drug peddler from Rajeev Nagar. The JDA team, led by Tehsildar Megha Gupta and assisted by police, carried out the demolition operation against the 'illegally" constructed residential structure at Rajeev Nagar in Tehsil Bahu, they said. The demolished property belonged to Reena, a notorious drug peddler with a criminal background, against whom multiple cases have been registered in the city, they said. She was also detained under the Public Safety Act in 2019 due to her continued involvement in the drug trade and threat to public order, they added. On July 31, 2024, police successfully obtained confirmation of property attachment orders against Reena and three other notorious drug peddlers from the Rajeev Nagar and Ragoora areas. 610 antiquities retrieved from six countries including US during 2020-24: Govt
New Delhi, Jul 21 (PTI) A total of 610 antiquities were retrieved from the US, the UK and four other countries over the last five years, the government informed Parliament on Monday. Union Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat shared this information in a written reply to a question on whether the government has conducted any survey or study regarding theft of Indian artefacts in the last five years; and details of the total number of artefacts recovered, still missing and unaccounted for over the same period. The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) maintains up-to-date data of theft cases in respect of protected monuments, sites and museums under its jurisdiction, he said. On retrieval of antiquities from abroad, according to the data shared by him, in 2020, three artefacts were brought back from Australia and five from the UK. In 2021, 157 antiquities were brought back from the US and one each from Canada and the UK. In 2023 and 2024, the figures stood at 105 (the US) and 297 (the US) respectively. For the US, the total number of retrieved antiquities for 2020-24 stood at 559, and for Australia, the corresponding figures stood at 34. The total number spanning the six countries — the US, the UK, Australia, Canada, Italy and Thailand — for 2020-24 stands at 610. In response to another query, Shekhawat said, a total of 655 antiquities have been retrieved from foreign countries since 1976.
