GOF seizes RM19mil worth of timber in Tanah Merah
GOF Southeast Brigade commander Senior Asst Comm Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Ab Hamid said the first seizure involved 33 bundles of timber, round logs, timber-processing equipment and a lorry at a sawmill near Jalan Bukit Kechik.
"Investigations found that the sawmill was operating without a licence from the Forestry Department, and the timber was untaxed. The 60-year-old owner and a 27-year-old lorry driver were detained, with the seized materials valued at RM10.98mil," he said on Sunday (Aug 17).
He said the case was being investigated under the National Forestry Act 1984 (Act 313) and has been referred to the Kelantan Forestry Department for further action.
In another raid, SAC Nik Ros Azhan said they seized various types of timber after checking a sawmill in Kampung Bukit Pauh, valued at RM8.2mil. The seizure included 45 piles of processed wood, five piles of logs, timber-processing equipment, and a heavy machine.
"Further checks revealed that the sawmill had repeatedly reused the forest product transfer pass to evade detection by the authorities," he said.
He added that the seized items were handed over to the Kelantan Forestry Department for further action, and the case was being investigated under Section 3(2) of the Wood-Based Industries Enactment 1985.- Bernama

KOTA BARU: Forty undocumented migrants were detained after illegally entering Malaysia via the Kelantan border within a week. General Operations Force (GOF) Southeast Brigade commander Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abd Hamid said the arrests were made between Aug 8 and 15 by the Eighth Battalion under Op Taring Wawasan Kelantan. He said the detainees comprised 30 men and 10 women. "Twenty-nine were Myanmar nationals, including 14 adult men, nine adult women, five boys, and one girl. The remaining 11 were Pakistani men," he said when contacted. Ros Azhan said investigations revealed the migrants were en route to the Klang Valley and Penang to work as plantation labourers, construction workers, and domestic helpers. "They told our personnel they had paid between RM4,400 and RM5,000 to agents, or tekong darat, depending on the distance and risks involved in smuggling them across the border," he said. He added that in some cases, foreign-based tekong darat had arranged for the migrants to be sent directly to their destinations in Malaysia. Ros Azhan said intelligence showed smugglers continue to exploit Kelantan's porous border to bring in undocumented migrants.

Sarawak GOF seizes smuggled goods, illegal timber worth RM4.85mil
KUCHING: The General Operations Force (GOF) has foiled a slew of cross-border crime, including smuggling and illegal logging between August 1 and 16, seizing RM4.85mil in goods. Sarawak brigade commander SAC Lim Bak Phai said that on August 1, Sibu Battalion 10 arrested a 42-year-old Indonesian man for suspected involvement in illegal logging activities in Sibu. "The raid led to the seizure of 100 logs, a wood cutting machine and an excavator with an estimated value of RM1.6mil. "On August 4, two local men were arrested in Sibu for smuggling 46,000 litres of diesel using three vehicles, including a tanker trailer. The seizures included various oil-related equipment with a total value of RM1.26 million," he said in a statement here on Monday (Aug 18). Lim said on Saturday, a trawler was detained in Sungai Kemena, Bintulu, carrying 5,000 litres of diesel without a valid permit, estimated at RM512,950. A 34-year-old local man was arrested. "In addition, several attempts to smuggle frozen food products were also foiled by GOF, including a case on August 4 in Tebedu involving the seizure of 202 boxes of frozen food worth RM371,600. He added that a location in Serian was raided, with frozen chicken worth RM223,320 seized. The GOF also foiled the smuggling of onions worth RM322,300 and rice worth RM183,000 in Biawak and 50 boxes of frozen food in Tebedu worth RM140,000, which did not have valid documents. Meanwhile, an attempt to smuggle 30 tanks of petroleum gas worth RM135,400 in Sri Aman was stopped, as well as an attempt by four Indonesians to enter the state through the Biawak border area in the Lundu district, which resulted in the seizure of cash worth RM3,050 and a vehicle totalling RM101,050. - Bernama

212 Illegal Jetties Along Sungai Golok To Be Demolished
KOTA BHARU, Aug 18 (Bernama) -- A total of 212 illegal jetties along Sungai Golok, the common border between Malaysia and Thailand, have been identified for demolition in a joint operation by local authorities (PBT) and security agencies. Southeast Brigade General Operations Force (GOF) commander Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Ab Hamid said the move was the result of a special committee meeting at the Kelantan Land and Mines Office (PTG) aimed at curbing smuggling activities and ensuring stronger border control. He said the four districts involved are Pasir Mas, Tumpat, Tanah Merah and Jeli. "Each district will form a special team led by the District Office and comprising various parties, including PTG, PBT, GOF, Border Control Agency (AKSEM) and the National Security Council (MKN). "Illegal structures identified on government land and privately-owned land will be demolished in stages. Before demolition, land status verification will be carried out, while notices will be issued by the district land office concerned," he told reporters after the meeting here today. Elaborating further, Nik Ros Azhan said the first phase of the demolition would involve jetties built on government-owned land. He said the operation involved 128 jetties within the Op Taring Wawasan Kelantan area under the GOF, and 84 jetties under the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) through Op Merpati. "GOF will provide full assistance to PTG, particularly on security aspects, to ensure the demolition proceeds smoothly.
