Nintendo Switch 2 Launches Globally Amid Huge Demand: Here's What's New
The Nintendo Switch 2 is selling out globally just a day after its launch. With over 2.2 million pre-orders in Japan alone, fans eagerly lined up at midnight events in Tokyo, New York, and Sydney to secure the console, marking an unprecedented level of demand in the gaming industry. Stock is flying off the shelves.
Enhanced Features and Higher Price Point
The Switch 2, priced at $449.99 in the US and 395.99 Pounds in the UK, boasts significant upgrades over its predecessor. It features a 7.9-inch LCD screen with 1080p resolution, supports up to 120 Hz refresh rates, and includes HDR capabilities. The console is powered by a custom Nvidia Tegra processor, offering improved performance and 4K output when docked. Additional enhancements include 256 GB of internal storage, redesigned Joy-Con controllers with magnetic attachment, and new social features like GameChat and GameShare.
Challenges and Market Response
Despite the higher price, demand for the Switch 2 remains strong. Analysts predict that Nintendo could sell 15 million units by March 2026. However, challenges such as US trade tariffs and convincing consumers to upgrade from the original Switch persist. Nintendo delayed U.S. pre-orders to assess tariff impacts but maintained the June 5 release date. The Switch 2's launch marks a significant moment for Nintendo, aiming to build on the success of the original Switch while navigating new market challenges. With its enhanced features and strong initial demand, the Switch 2 is poised to make a substantial impact in the gaming industry.
Nintendo Switch 2 launch games
The Nintendo Switch 2 launch boasts an impressive lineup of games, including Mario Kart, upgraded versions of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Cyberpunk 2077, Hogwarts Legacy, and more. Other titles include Hades 2, Street Fighter 6, Sonic X Shadow Generations, and Yakuza 0. Civilisation VII and No Man's Sky also cut. Additionally, older Nintendo games like Wind Waker and F-Zero GX are available through the Switch Online GameCube library, with free performance updates for select titles. Nintendo Switch 2 becomes fastest-selling game console
Nintendo has done it again. The highly anticipated Switch 2 has officially become the fastest-selling video game console of all time, moving a jaw-dropping 3.5 million units in just four days since its launch. According to Nintendo's announcement, this milestone outpaces all previous hardware launches — not just for the company, but across the entire industry. Daniel Ahmad, director of research and insights at Niko Partners, confirmed on X that the Switch 2 'is the fastest selling home video game console ever,' beating even the formidable launch numbers of Sony's PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. To compare, the PS4 took 16 days to sell 2.1 million units, and the PS5 needed seven weeks to cross 4.4 million. The Switch 2 surpassed both in less than a week, underlining the pent-up demand Nintendo successfully capitalized on. Despite early preorder sellouts across major US retailers, Nintendo ensured sufficient launch inventory, with some units still available for last-minute buyers. Analysts believe that impending tariff hikes may have also driven urgency among buyers. Though the UK didn't see the same intensity, the console still ranked as the fourth best-selling console launch in British history, according to NielsenIQ. Interestingly, this record-breaking debut came despite a limited lineup of launch titles. Analysts credit years of anticipation and Nintendo's strategic inventory planning for the console's immediate success. The next big test for Nintendo will be maintaining this sales momentum. The company is targeting 15 million units sold by March 2026, and with 3.5 million already gone in four days, it's well on track. For context, the original Nintendo Switch, which debuted in March 2017, sold 17.79 million units in its first 13 months and has since gone on to exceed 150 million lifetime sales.

3.5 million Nintendo Switch 2 sold in just 4 days, making it one of the biggest console launches in history
Nintendo Switch 2 was one of the most anticipated consoles of the year. It was finally released on June 5, to much fanfare, and just four days later, Nintendo made a huge announcement about the console's record-breaking sales. According to the company, over 3.5 million units of the Nintendo Switch 2 console have already been sold worldwide — the highest sales ever in Nintendo's history for any hardware within four days of its release. For context, the predecessor — the first-generation Nintendo Switch — sold about 2.74 million units in its first month, as per an IGN Nintendo Switch 2 was expected to be a success, and by the looks of it, the sales numbers are doing the talking. Of course, there seems to be a pretty good interest in Nintendo's latest handheld console — and why shouldn't there be? It has been over eight years since the release of the first-generation Nintendo Switch, which launched in March 2017. While refreshed versions did come along — Nintendo Switch Lite in 2019, and Nintendo Switch OLED in 2021 — the Nintendo Switch 2 is the first true successor to the original terms of design and appearance, the Nintendo Switch 2 offers a familiar experience to the original model. However, the Switch 2 is slightly larger and heavier, with, of course, a larger 7.9-inch LCD screen, full-HD resolution, and a 120Hz refresh rate. An OLED display would've sweetened the deal, given that we have already seen a Switch with an OLED panel. However, the slightly larger screen, along with double the refresh rate, may translate into a better screen Apart from this, the Nintendo Switch 2 is powered by a custom Nvidia processor, which is capable of outputting up to 4K at 60fps, versus up to 1080p at 60fps on the original Switch. Storage has also been significantly bumped from 32GB on the first-gen model to 256GB on the newer model. It is expandable to up to 2TB via a microSD Express card, which should not be mistaken for a normal microSD Switch 2 also comes with a new GameChat feature that lets you voice or video chat with friends by simply tapping a new C button on the Joy-Con 2 controller and speaking into the console's integrated at $499.99 (roughly Rs 38,500), Nintendo has also released a brand new first-party title — Mario Kart World — alongside the Switch 2. Additionally, the new console is backwards compatible, meaning all the games from the first-gen Switch are supported on the new model.
