US Ally Seeks China's Help in Dealing With North Korea

North-South relations are at their most strained in decades amid Kim's frequent ballistic missile tests and North Korean troop deployments to support Russia's war against Ukraine. Lee is also expected to tread carefully as he balances relations with his country's largest trading partner—China—and key security ally—the United States. Lee must also grapple with a slowing economy and trade negotiations with U.S. President Donald Trump. What To Know During his 30-minute phone call with Xi, Lee expressed hope the two countries would boost cooperation and exchanges in a range of areas, from security to people-to-people exchanges, the Yonhap News Agency quoted Lee spokesperson Kang Yu-jung as saying. Lee also called on his Chinese counterpart to play an active role in advancing denuclearization on the peninsula, which he said is in both nations' interests. Kang also told reporters the Chinese leader offered assurances that he would attempt to help resolve the nuclear weapons issue. Chinese officials have yet to confirm this remark by Xi. "Both sides should respect each other's core interests and major concerns, firmly steer the overall direction of bilateral relations, and ensure that the China-ROK [Republic of Korea] relationship always moves forward on the right track," the Chinese Foreign Ministry said in its statement on the call, using South Korea's official name. Senior mattress and sleep editor Bridget Chapman says it's the firmest bed she's tested and that it 'offers exceptional back support and promotes neutral spinal alignment.' It's also flippable and has two firmness levels for versatility. More Deal Information: Plank offered 30% off sitewide for Memorial Day, so this offer is slightly less impressive than the one we saw last month. Bear If you're seeking a comfortable and budget-friendly design, our sleep editors recommend the Bear Original. Our testers thought it did a great job isolating motion and that the bed fell around the medium-firm range on the mattress scale, which typically best accommodates back and stomach sleepers as well as some combination sleepers. More Deal Information: This discount matches an offer we saw from Bear earlier this year. Layla Side sleepers on the hunt for a good memory foam mattress should consider this Layla model. It offers a flippable design, so you can try out different firmness levels, and is made of copper-infused foam to help regulate temperature throughout the night. Helix The Helix Midnight Luxe is at the top of our list for the best mattresses of 2025. Our sleep editors say that it's great for side and combination sleepers who prefer a bed with a medium feel. Ingredients:- 1 Quart of heavy cream - 1 Cup of white wine- 6 Tablespoons white sugar - 1 whole nutmeg (grated) or ground nutmeg- 2 Tablespoons of rose water (can be bought or made with hot water and rose petals)- Zest of 1/2 lemon- Sprig of Rosemary- Salt (a pinch) Instructions from the manuscripts given by Franics Parke Custis to Martha Washington: Scald the cream together with the nutmeg, cut in quarters. Remove from the fire and when cool, pour in a glass jar. Let stand overnight. Mix the white wine, rose water, sugar, and a pinch of salt. Pour the cream over this and lay in the rosemary and lemon peel. Let stand for five or six hours until the curds form. The modern method: Pour cream into a bowl and beat with a whisk or electric mixer until soft peaks appear. Add the sugar, lemon zest, salt, rose water, nutmeg and beat briefly. Pour in the wine (experiment with sweet or dry wines, etc.) and mix then put into glasses and place into the refrigerator overnight to separate into cool layers. Decorate with more lemon zest and the sprigs of Rosemary. All types of other decorations can be fantasized about and made as well as adding even more whipped cream on top with grated nutmeg. Traditionally served in Syllabub glasses to show off the distinct layers, this recipe was a favorite of all of the revolutionary founding families and frequently offered at elegant affairs at the White House, private first family estates, on Presidential yachts and rail cars, and at the Camp David Resort and Conference Center. A "Whipt Syllabub" of the era would include many different flavor ideas of lemon and strawberry and other ideas and also could be made with egg whites and heavy cream mixed with sugar and wine beaten to a froth.
