Prakash Raj speaks out against ban on 'Abir Gulaal', rising intolerance in cinema

Veteran actor Prakash Raj, who is known for his strong opinions, recently opened up about Pakistani actor Fawad Khan and Vaani Kapoor's 'Abir Gulaal' not being allowed to be released in India in the backdrop of the tragic Pahalgam terror incident in Jammu and Kashmir.
In an interview with The Lallantop, Prakash Raj said he is opposed to banning any film, including such films with controversial contents. However, the actor said he's not opposed to ban on films involving child sexual abuse or pornography.
He further added that people should have the freedom to watch all films and express their own opinions.
This statement comes at a time when the Hindi film 'Abir Gulaal', starring Pakistani actor Fawad Khan and Vaani Kapoor, has been stopped from releasing in India. The romantic-comedy film was set to hit theatres on May 9. The decision to stay the release came after the terror attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, where over 26 tourists were killed, leading to nationwide anger.
'Abir Gulaal' is directed by Aarti S Bagdi and produced by Indian Stories in collaboration with A Richer Lens and Aarjay Pictures.

When Rajesh Khanna admitted he was ‘envious' of Amitabh Bachchan: ‘I always acted as a romantic hero. Never did action films'

Rajesh Khanna, widely regarded as India's first-ever superstar, remains an enduring icon in the history of Hindi cinema. The tales of his stardom, unprecedented and almost mythical in scale, still leave readers awestruck. Fans would gather in droves, his car would be smeared with lipstick, and his photographs were worshipped in homes. Such was the love and hysteria he commanded at his peak. But as with the nature of fame and life, the tides soon turned. The emergence of Amitabh Bachchan as the nation's 'Angry Young Man' gradually overshadowed the romantic image of Rajesh. While Rajesh's stardom was meteoric, Amitabh's proved to be enduring, with a legacy that continues to thrive even today. In an old interview with Lehren Retro, Rajesh acknowledged this shift, openly admitting to feelings of envy toward Amitabh's lasting success. 'He started working with me in Anand and now he has reached such great heights of fame. I not only congratulate him but also only wish the best for him. Always happy to see him grow. I envy him that he started with us and has come a long way. It's a matter of great pride for me and everyone in the industry.' Yet, Rajesh didn't hold back from taking a subtle jibe at the kind of cinema that rose to prominence during Amitabh's rise — especially the shift toward action-oriented narratives. Reflecting on his own legacy as the quintessential romantic hero, he remarked: 'I always acted as a romantic hero. Never did action, nor did I have any ambition to do action films. Always did films which were high on emotions. Did romance, did comedy, did family. And to be honest, what's greater emotion than romance? What a greater emotion than love? So I'm happy that I took that path.' Even veteran actress Moushumi Chatterjee, known for her work with both actors and her candid takes, has commented on their dynamic. In recent reflections, she alluded to Amitabh's intense work ethic and how his rise to superstardom led to a certain shift in his demeanour. While she acknowledged that Rajesh could be egoistic at times, she attributed it to the overwhelming adoration he once received, stardom that few had experienced at that level.

Shine Tom Chacko's car driver reveals a speed of 60-80 km/h: Lorry swerved suddenly: Confirms no other vehicles on the road at that time

(Picture Courtesy: Facebook) Popular Malayalam actor Shine Tom Chacko was injured in a tragic road accident near Salem, Tamil Nadu, in the early hours of the morning (June 6). The accident claimed the life of his father, C.P. Chacko. The family was en route from Ernakulam to Bengaluru for Shine's medical treatment when the incident occurred around 6:30 AM near Hogenakkal in Dharmapuri district. The lorry swerved suddenly, says the driver Aneesh, who was driving Shine's vehicle, said the accident was caused by a lorry that unexpectedly swerved from the right lane to the left. Check out Shine Tom Chacko's dubbing session Aneesh shared the details in an interview with Mathrubhumi News, stating that they had moved the vehicle to the left side of the road so Shine could relieve himself. While the lorry had been seen traveling at a distance in the right lane, it suddenly veered left just as they were about to cross. Due to the vehicle's speed—estimated between 60 and 80 km/h—it was impossible to brake in time, resulting in a rear-end collision with the lorry. Father was not wearing a seatbelt Shine's father, C.P. Chacko, was seated in the back seat without a seatbelt. Aneesh explained that the force of the impact caused C.P. Chacko to hit his head against the back of the driver's seat, resulting in a fatal injury. A passing vehicle was used to rush him to the hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries on the way. Aneesh added that Chacko was conscious and moaning until they reached the hospital. Shine Tom Chacko and family had reportedly left Ernakulam around 10 PM the previous night and were headed to Bengaluru via Salem, following an earlier course of treatment in Thodupuzha.
