Bayern Munich star Joao Palhinha responds to Arsenal transfer approach

Arsenal and Inter Milan have been linked with Bayern Munich's Joao Palhinha this summer (Picture: Getty) Joao Palhinha has distanced himself from reports that he could be on the move and insists he is 'very motivated' to 'prove his worth' at Bayern Munich next season. The 30-year-old will have been desperate to make up for lost time last term after joining Bayern in a £47.4m transfer from Fulham, 12 months after seeing a proposed deal collapse. But injury problems meant Palhinha never really got going across what was a frustrating debut season in German football, in which the midfielder made just six league starts. There has been some speculation that Palhinha could already be deemed surplus to requirements in Munich amid fierce competition for places in Vincent Kompany's engine room. Palhinha is battling it out for minutes with Leon Goretzka, Aleks Pavlovic, Joshua Kimmich, Konrad Laimer and new signing Tom Bischof and the Portuguese has been given no assurances that he will be a regular starter next season. Serie A giants Inter Milan are known to be admirers of Palhinha, while a report emanating out of Germany this week claimed Arsenal had held 'serious' talks to sign the Bayern man before the Club World Cup. Clubs from Spain, Turkey and Portugal are also believed to be monitoring Palhinha's situation at the Allianz Arena. Palhinha made just six starts across Bayern's Bundesliga-winning campaign (Picture: Getty) The ex-Fulham man has three years remaining on his current deal in Munich (Picture: Getty) However, speaking to Portuguese outlet Sport TV on Thursday, Palhinha stressed that he remained committed to his contract with Bayern, which is not due to expire until June 2028. 'I have a contract for three more years, so I'll report for duty on July 29, which is when we start this pre-season,' he said. 'As I've said several times, and it's been a recurring question, I have three more years on my contract.' Palhinha is yet to nail down a regular starting role under Kompany (Picture: Getty) While Palhinha admits there is some uncertainty over his future after a difficult debut year, he is looking forward to representing Bayern again when the new campaign gets underway. 'I don't know what will happen, but I'm at a great club, as I've always said, he added. 'Obviously, it hasn't been an easy year, but as soon as the season starts, I'm very motivated to prove my worth once again at a very special club, a huge club. Palhinha struggled with muscle injuries last season (Picture: Getty) According to Bild, Arsenal have been eyeing Palhinha as a possible target in midfield, even after bringing in Christian Norgaard and Martin Zubimendi from Brentford and Real Sociedad respectively. More Trending With Jorginho and Thomas Partey both having departed the Gunners this summer, new sporting director Andrea Berta has been determined not to leave Mikel Arteta short in the middle of the park. Kepa Arrizabalaga remains Arsenal's only other addition of the transfer window, but it's understood Valencia defender Cristhian Mosquera and Sporting striker Viktor Gyokeres are closing in on moves to the Emirates. The north Londoners are also working on a deal with Crystal Palace for Eberechi Eze after agreeing personal terms with the England international. Eze has a £68million release clause at Selhurst Park and Palace are reportedly demanding that their London rivals pay this in full. For more stories like this, check our sport page. Manchester United wonderkid Chido Obi at centre of new plan after two big summer changes

Chido Obi made eight appearances in his first season at Manchester United but the former Arsenal starlet is ready for an even bigger sophomore campaign at Old Trafford Chido Obi is being earmarked for regular first-team appearances at Manchester United in the new season. Obi, 17, made the bold decision to leave Arsenal last summer and joined the Red Devils, who won the race for his sought-after signature. ‌ Obi had to wait until February to make his first-team debut and he finished the season with eight appearances to his name. Although the Danish striker didn't find the back of the net, he did score twice in a post-season friendly win against Hong Kong. ‌ Fans were given a glimpse of Obi's potential and it's good news for those who are excited to see more of him in the 2025-26 campaign. The teenage sensation, who scored a record-breaking 32 goals in 20 appearances for Arsenal's under-18s before leaving the Emirates, is part of Ruben Amorim's plans. ‌ As first revealed by The Athletic Obi will regularly feature in matchday squads and only play for the U21s occasionally this term. There have also been two big changes for the Denmark youth international. Obi has firstly received the No.32 shirt, having been No.46 last term. At Old Trafford, the number is most famously associated with Carlos Tevez, who enjoyed two prolific seasons playing for the Red Devils between 2007 and 2009. Secondly, Obi has visibly bulked up over the summer. The 17-year-old's transformation will stand him in better stead to deal with Premier League defenders and assert himself on opponents. ‌ Senior figures at Carrington are said to already consider Obi a member of the first-team squad, despite his lack of experience. Amorim has been passing on his wisdom to Obi, who said in April: "He's just told me to be humble and keep working hard every day. "And hopefully I get more opportunities soon. My dad and my mum always told me to be a good person and listen to my coaches because they want me to get better, so it's good. Will Chido Obi become a starter for Manchester United next season? Give us your prediction in the comments section. ‌ "I've learnt to be smart and to think quicker by training with the first team because the game is quicker compared to academy football. It helps me a lot, training with them every day." Obi's first target is to impress Amorim during pre-season. United start their run of five friendlies by facing Leeds this Saturday in Stockholm, Sweden. The Red Devils will then jet off to the USA in the early part of next week for matches against West Ham, Bournemouth and Everton. Amorim's side finish their preparations against Fiorentina at Old Trafford on Saturday, August 9,

Celtic dreamer sets Hotline on fire as Brendan Rodgers claim has Rangers punters queuing up

Andy Newport manned the phone as preparations continue for the season ahead - and the bickering is in full swing So good so Faro for slick Celtic as they continued their pre-season preparations with an impressive win over Sporting Lisbon in the Algarve. ‌ Goals from Reo Hatate and Luke McCowan gave Brendan Rodgers ' men a 2-0 victory over the Lions. But not everyone got pass marks on Portugal's southern tip. ‌ Stephen Mulhern, Dumbarton, said: 'That was an excellent performance and victory against a top-class side. But the only disappointing factor was Adam Idah being as nervous as a kitten in front of goal once again. ‌ "I believe the quality Rodgers wants as Kyogo's replacement will be reluctant to sign because of the lack of competition up here. It looks increasingly likely Daizen Maeda will be deployed as the main striker as the season starts.' Arrin Geddes, Irvine, said: 'Solid performance from the Scottish champions against the Portuguese champions. Young Dane Murray excelled and Hayato Inamura looked the part again - but Benjamin Nygren was easily the standout player on the pitch.' William Hutchison, Aberdeen, said: 'Although that was a good win against Lisbon I fully expect to hear from a certain fanbase claiming we only beat them because they fielded a very young line-up. But I can just point out that in fact Sporting fielded a very strong, experienced side.' ‌ Stephen Johnstone's claim yesterday that Rodgers could be about to blast off to join the Galacticos in Madrid had some fans wondering what planet he was on. Donald Dundas, Uddingston, said: 'Oh how the hot sunshine can bring on delusional thoughts. Brendan Rodgers managing Real Madrid? Aye right. ‌ "He was sent home from failure in the English Premier League to take an easy gig in a second-rate league with second-rate European cannon fodder. There's more chance of Roy Rogers and Tonto taking charge of the Spanish giants!' Alfie Mullin, London, said: 'Stephen Johnstone must be dreaming if he believes Brendan Rodgers conquered England. He has never won the Premier League with any team he has managed. Maybe Stephen equates Rodgers getting Leicester City relegated as a conquest.' Alec Morrison, Musselburgh, added: 'Stephen Johnstone, please tell me you're on the wind up! Brendan conquered the EPL by winning an FA Cup at Leicester then jumped ship before they got relegated, which means he deserves a crack at Spain? ‌ 'I'm saying Leicester because he won hee haw with Liverpool. In England he had a win rate of 50 percent or less. He's only been a success in a very poor Scottish league and continually shows how poor he is when he's in Europe. However, Jimmy Murray, Edinburgh, doesn't expect to see the Celtic boss hanging around the Hoops long term, saying: 'Everyone knows Brendan won't sign an extension to his contract. He took the job as a personal favour to Dermot Desmond after Ange Postecoglou bailed out. 'I can't blame him. This Celtic board led by Peter Lawwell is even more unpopular than the Kelly and White gang. And that is saying something!' ‌ Meanwhile, Alan Ross called to take issue with regular Stateside caller Robert Livingstone: 'Somebody please tell Robert that the 49ers owners have nothing to do with Rangers. "49ers Enterprises is a totally separate entity. The reality is Rangers can't afford Lennon Miller unless they sell a number of players for huge money, which isn't going to happen, so get real Robert.' Mark McManus, Purley, added: 'The constant criticism of Celtic transfers from Rangers supporters while ignoring the fact their own club is making loan deals and buys from League One in England demonstrates that the club has been able to pull the wool over their eyes without any fee busting sales and no marquee signings yet. 'I suppose it's one way to cope with the frustration of seeing the billions expected from the new owners fail to materialise and yet another share issue planned. There must be a billion trillion shares in a club making no profit available now.'
