Maharashtra Shalarth ID scam: A special investigation team (SIT) found that over 540 of the 622 teachers recruited via a Maharashtra government portal, were appointed without proper procedures, PTI reported citing a senior official.
The centralised portal, called Shalarth, manages payroll and service records of employees, including teachers, at government and government-aided schools, the report said. Shalarth ID is the identification number allotted to such staffers, it added.
A police official told PTI that the SIT has found that of the 622 teachers appointed, only 75 were hired following proper procedures.
The remaining 547 were appointed using fake IDs.
These fradulent hires had each paid ₹ 20-20 lakh for the job.

Meghalaya Tourist Guide Claims Indore Couple Was With 3 Men On Day They Went Missing

Last Updated: Albert Pde, a local guide at Mawlakhiat village, said that he saw the couple with three male tourists on the day of their disappearance. A tourist guide in Meghalaya told police that the honeymooning couple from Indore who went missing on May 23 were last seen accompanied by three unidentified men, according to a PTI report. The couple- Raja Raghuvanshi and his wife Sonam- had been vacationing in the East Khasi Hills district when they vanished from the Sohra (Cherrapunji) area. Raja Raghuvanshi 's body was recovered earlier this week, but Sonam remains missing. A multi-agency search operation is underway to trace her. Albert Pde, a local guide at Mawlakhiat village, told PTI that he saw the couple with three male tourists while they were climbing the 3,000 steps from Nongriat to Mawlakhiat around 10 am on May 23. Albert Pde recalled offering to guide the couple a day earlier, but they had declined and hired someone else. 'I recognised them when I saw them again. The four men were ahead, and the woman was walking behind. They were speaking in Hindi, which I couldn't fully follow," Albert Pde said. He added that when he reached Mawlakhiat, the couple's scooter was no longer there. An official confirmed to PTI that this information had been shared with local police. What Sonam's Family Has Said Sonam's brother, Govind, criticised the pace and direction of the investigation, accusing the Meghalaya government of treating the case as if she were already dead. 'We believe Sonam is alive. The government needs to search for her like she's alive. Bring in the CBI or any other agency," he told PTI. Responding to the criticism, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma said the government was making every effort to locate the missing woman. The ongoing operation, however, has been hampered by challenging terrain, incessant rain and poor visibility. East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem said, 'We are doing everything we can. Our teams are working tirelessly with trained dogs and special equipment. The search will continue." Fake currency racket busted; man held in Delhi with Rs 4 lakh counterfeit notes

A police team had been working on FICN-related intelligence for the past four months. During this period, credible inputs were received regarding the activities of a syndicate operating across multiple states, including Delhi and parts of the National Capital Region (NCR), a senior police officer said. The accused, identified as Naushad Alam (22), was apprehended near Vijay Ghat Bus Stand on May 8 while allegedly attempting to deliver a major FICN consignment, he said. New Delhi, Jun 7 (PTI) The Delhi Police has arrested a key member of an interstate Fake Indian Currency Note (FICN) syndicate and recovered counterfeit currency worth Rs 4 lakh from his possession, an official said on Saturday. 'Surveillance revealed that the fake currency was being smuggled into India via the porous Indo-Bangladesh border. The team succeeded in identifying key operatives of the network,' he said. Acting on specific information, a trap was laid at the Vijay Ghat Bus Stand on the morning of May 8, where Alam was intercepted. A search led to the recovery of Rs 4 lakh in high-quality counterfeit currency, all in Rs 500 denomination. During interrogation, Alam disclosed that he was working for a handler based in Malda, West Bengal, and was receiving instructions from another operative. He admitted to supplying fake currency to contacts in Bihar and Delhi on multiple occasions. 'He was procuring FICN at the rate of Rs 200 for a Rs 500 note and reselling it at Rs 300,' the officer said, adding that Alam had already delivered four to five consignments in the past. Investigators suspect that the proceeds from the fake currency trade are being funnelled to purchase sophisticated arms and Bangladesh-based operatives are actively involved in smuggling FICN into India. Police have registered a case under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the Special Cell police station. Further investigation is underway to trace and apprehend other members of the syndicate. Alam is reportedly illiterate and was lured into the trade due to his poor financial condition, police added.
