Also reprimanded and fined were independent non-executive directors Wong Kok Chau, Datuk Seri Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff, Datuk Mohd Jeffrey Joakim and Mohaini Mohd Yusof.
According to Bursa Malaysia Securities, the findings of breach and the imposition of penalties on the company and the directors were made pursuant to paragraph 16.19 of the Main Market LR upon completion of due process and after taking into consideration all facts and circumstances of the matter. These included the materiality of the breaches, the impact of the breaches on the company and shareholders/investors, and the roles, responsibilities, knowledge, involvement and conduct/action/inaction of the directors.
"Bursa Malaysia Securities has also reminded the company and its board of directors of their responsibility to maintain the appropriate standards of corporate responsibility and accountability to its shareholders and the investing public," it said in a statement.

"However, the July 7 announcement was not factual, inaccurate, false and misleading as the contents of the July 4 letter were inconsistent with the company's representations in the July 7 announcement," said Bursa Malaysia Securities. - Bernama

Court of Appeal upholds forfeiture of ex-Terengganu assemblyman's wife's car
PUTRAJAYA: The Court of Appeal has upheld the forfeiture of a Proton X70 worth RM115,000 belonging to Aida Tengah, wife of former Terengganu assemblyman Datuk Tengku Hassan Tengku Omar. A three-judge panel unanimously dismissed her appeal, ruling that the prosecution had proven the car was linked to corruption offences. The panel, comprising Justices Datuk Ahmad Zaidi Ibrahim, Datuk Azman Abdullah, and Datuk Ahmad Fairuz Zainal Abidin, agreed with earlier court decisions that the forfeiture was justified under Section 41(1) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009. Justice Ahmad Fairuz stated that the case was an 'in-rem' proceeding, meaning the lawsuit targeted the asset rather than the individual. The court found that the car was purchased using funds misappropriated by Abdul Ahad Khan, a board member of Hygenia Sdn Bhd, who was entrusted with RM3.8 million in investment funds. The RM115,000 used to buy the vehicle was part of the misused money. Additionally, the court ruled that Aida's husband, as a public servant, had received the car as a gift without proper justification under Section 165 of the Penal Code. The Kuala Terengganu Sessions Court initially ordered the forfeiture on May 8, 2023, a decision later upheld by the High Court on March 14 last year. Today's ruling solidifies the forfeiture, marking the end of Aida's legal challenge. Deputy public prosecutors Farah Yasmin Salleh and Muhammad Asraf Mohamad Tahir represented the prosecution, while lawyer Awang Armadajaya Awang Mahmud acted for Aida. – Bernama

Teen hands over mother's jewellery worth RM140,000 to scammers
JERTIH: A teenager has handed over her mother's jewellery worth RM140,000 to an unknown individual after being deceived by a phone scam syndicate. Besut deputy police chief Dep Supt Md Sani Md Salleh said the 18-year-old, who is awaiting admission to an institution of higher learning (IPT), lodged a police report on Saturday (July 12) claiming she had been duped. "The teen received phone calls from three individuals posing as representatives from the e-wallet company and a police officer from Perak on July 1. "They claimed that her particulars had been misused and she was implicated in fraud and money laundering cases," he said in a statement on Tuesday (July 15). Md Sani said the victim then handed over her mother's jewellery to an unknown female suspect in a supermarket in Jertih town the next day (July 2). He said the suspect promised to return the jewellery the same day but later told the teenager that the jewellery had been kept by the Police forensics unit for further investigation. "The teenager was then told that she would have to pay RM28,000 to retrieve the jewellery. The teenager then lodged a police report upon realising she had been duped," he said. Following that, police arrested a 37-year-old woman in Kuala Besut on Monday (July 14) and remanded her for four days until Friday to assist in investigations under Section 420 of the Penal Code. – Bernama

Duo nabbed over arson of three homes, vandalism in Tasek Gelugor
GEORGE TOWN: Police have arrested two men in their 20s, believed to be behind an arson incident that gutted three double-storey terrace houses in Tasek Gelugor last month. The arrests were made during separate raids around Penang on July 3 by the state Commercial Crime Investigation Department. Penang deputy police chief Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin said the suspects, who had admitted to involvement in multiple cases of paint vandalism, confessed during interrogation to committing the arson attack, which caused an estimated RM300,000 in damages. He said the fire not only razed three homes but also damaged five cars and four motorcycles parked nearby. "Investigators believe the arson and vandalism are linked to illegal moneylending activities. "The suspects were also connected to at least five cases of red paint splashing, commonly associated with Ah Long (loan shark) intimidation tactics, including one incident reported on June 30 in Tanjung Tokong," he said in a statement today. Alwi said that during the operation, police seized several items believed to have been used in the crimes, including a Yamaha Y16ZR motorcycle, a pair of sports rims, a motorcycle helmet, clothing worn during the incidents, a mobile phone and a crossbody bag. He said the case is being investigated under Section 436 of the Penal Code for mischief by fire, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years' imprisonment and a fine. He added that the paint vandalism cases are being investigated under Section 5(2) of the Moneylenders Act 1951 and Section 427 of the Penal Code. "We urge the public to report any form of harassment or threats from unlicensed moneylenders. "We will not hesitate to take strict action against individuals or syndicates who endanger the public," he added. It was earlier reported that police were conducting further investigations into a fire that destroyed three double-storey terrace houses in Taman Tasek Gelugor Utama on June 24, which was suspected to have been caused by loan sharks. A report was lodged by one of the homeowners, claiming the fire was believed to be the result of arson.(Hyperlink: )
