CF man convicted of repeated child sexual assault
Thomas E. Buetow, 35, 426 Woodward Ave., entered a no contest plea Wednesday in Chippewa County Court to one count of repeated sexual assault of a child. As part of a plea agreement, a mandatory minimum prison sentence was waived. The trial, which was set to begin Aug. 6, has been canceled.
Judge James Isaacson ordered a pre-sentence investigation and set a sentencing date for Nov. 7. Defense attorney Matthew Krische indicated he will obtain an alternate PSI for his client. The pre-sentence investigation is a recommendation by the Department of Corrections on the type of discipline, including the length of incarceration, on a conviction.
Buetow was originally held in the Chippewa County Jail on a $100,000 cash bond. On Jan. 30, Judge James Isaacson reduced the cash bond to $50,000, but Thomas Buetow has not yet posted bond and remains incarcerated in the Chippewa County Jail. He entered a not guilty plea in October.
According to the criminal complaint, a man told police that his children, a boy (now age 9) and a girl (now age 12) told him last spring that Thomas Buetow had sexually assaulted them while they slept at the Buetows' home. The assaults occurred between January 2022 and September 2023.
Specialists interviewed both children. The girl said the assaults began when she was nine or 10 years old, and 'disclosed that that the sexual abuse occurred almost every night of the week that she was with Mr. Buetow,' the complaint reads.
She was able to describe the type of assault was with Thomas Buetow's fingers.
Police interviewed Thomas Buetow days later, and he denied sexually assaulting the children. However, 'Mr. Buetow did state that in the last year that he did a lot of drinking, which led him to black out and not remember what he did the next morning.'
Samantha L. Buetow, 31, was originally charged for not reporting a child sexual assault. In April, she entered a no contest plea to a misdemeanor-level charge of child neglect.
Chippewa County Judge Benjamin Lane ordered Samantha Buetow to serve a minimum of 90 days in jail with Huber work release privileges; another six months in jail was imposed and stayed. The failure to act felony charge was read-in and dismissed. Buetow also was placed on probation for two years. So, if she violates terms of her probation, she could wind up serving the rest of the sentence. Samantha Buetow also must complete a parenting class.
Online court records show Thomas Buetow was convicted of disorderly conduct and obstructing an officer in Eau Claire County Court in 2019.

Man ran down road 'covered in blood and screaming for help'
A man was seen running down a quiet residential road covered in blood and screaming for help, a neighbour said. Merseyside Police officers were called to Sandbrook Way in Ainsdale following reports of a man suffering a small puncture wound to his shoulder at 1.35am on Tuesday, August 12. He was rushed to hospital where he remains in a stable condition. Following inquiries, a 41-year-old man of no fixed abode and a 54-year-old woman from Ainsdale have both been arrested on suspicion of section 18 wounding with intent. The man was also arrested for criminal damage. They both remain in custody. When the ECHO arrived at the scene on Tuesday afternoon, three houses remained cordoned off, one on Pinfold Lane where the incident is believed to have taken place close to Sandbrook Way, one on Bowness Avenue and another on Windermere Crescent. Blood remained on the property on Bowness Avenue. One neighbour, who was awake at the time of the incident and lives on Bowness Avenue, told the ECHO: "I was awake and it was dead quiet then I just heard a load of noise coming from the end of the road. "I looked out the window and saw a man topless and covered in blood screaming for help. He saw the window was open and knocked on the door before going next door and going to the house across the road." She said the incident took place around 1.30am before emergency services descended on the quiet estate. Another neighbour said: "He woke us up and then next thing we knew police were on the street. They have been here all day and had the dogs out earlier." One other man said: "At around 2am we saw there was a lot of police activity. The police just descended on the road and there was an ambulance at the scene too. "The police are still here now. There was blood on a property on Pinfold Lane." Sprinter Sha'Carri Richardson addressed her recent domestic violence arrest in a video on social media and issued an apology to her boyfriend Christian Coleman. Richardson posted a video on her Instagram account Monday night in which she said she put herself in a 'compromised situation.' She issued a written apology to Coleman on Tuesday morning. 'I love him & to him I can't apologize enough," the reigning 100-meter world champion wrote in all capital letters on Instagram, adding that her apology 'should be just as loud' as her 'actions.' 'To Christian I love you & I am so sorry," she wrote. Richardson was arrested July 27 on a fourth-degree domestic violence offense for allegedly assaulting Coleman at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. She was booked into South Correctional Entity in Des Moines, Washington, for more than 18 hours. Her arrest was days before she ran the 100 meters at the U.S. championships in Eugene, Oregon. In the video, Richardson said she's practicing 'self-reflection' and refuses 'to run away but face everything that comes to me head on.' According to the police report, an officer at the airport was notified by a Transportation Security Administration supervisor of a disturbance between Richardson and her boyfriend, Coleman, the 2019 world 100-meter champion. The officer reviewed camera footage and observed Richardson reach out with her left arm and grab Coleman's backpack and yank it away. Richardson then appeared to get in Coleman's way with Coleman trying to step around her. Coleman was shoved into a wall. Later in the report, it said Richardson appeared to throw an item at Coleman, with the TSA indicating it may have been headphones.
