WIMBLEDON, LONDON: Novak Djokovic is now moving forward to the last 16 at Wimbledon, and this marks his 100th match win at the iconic grass-court Grand Slam.
The top athlete recently won against Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic and managed to win nine games in a row during the match. This season, he is pursuing the 25th Grand Slam title of his career, and now he is on his way to fight for the Wimbledon title as he faces Alex de Minaur next in the round of 16.
With this, Djokovic admitted: ' Wimbledon is a favourite and a dream tournament of not just myself but the majority of players.'
He added, 'Growing up, most kids dream of winning here, and I've been blessed to do that many times here. Any history I make in my favourite tournament… I'm blessed.' Highlights of the match
During the first set, both Novak Djokovic and Miomir Kecmanovic had opportunities to break serve, resulting in a tie score of 3-3. However, Djokovic upped his game and eventually took a 5-3 lead.
Djokovic remained dominant in the first set and finished it with a score of 6-3. The Serbian also won all three previous matches against Kecmanovic, and his familiarity with the game led him to a 2-0 lead in the second set.
Djokovic then won seven games in a row, making the score 4-0. He broke serve again and held his own serve to win nine games straight and take the second set with a score of 6-0.
Kecmanovic took the third set with a 1-0 lead, but Djokovic regained control and won with a final scoreline of 6-3, 6-0, 6-4 in a time span of one hour and 47 minutes.
When asked about his match with de Minaur, Djokovic stated: ' Alex has also improved his game tremendously in the last couple of years. He's playing the tennis of his life. He's definitely knocking on the door of the final stages of Grand Slams.'
'Just a tough, very tough challenge expected. I'm looking forward to it. I think it's going to be a great test to see where my game is at against a top player like Alex,' he added.
On social media, Djokovic raved: '100th Wimbledon win. 1dem00. 🫶🏼 … It's a pleasure to play with a great player and friend from Serbia as always @miomirk 🇷🇸(translated)' View this post on Instagram

Shelton gets one up on dad as he battles to Wimbledon quarter-finals

LONDON -American 10th seed Ben Shelton reached the Wimbledon quarter-finals for the first time on Monday when a 3-6 6-1 7-6 (1) 7-5 victory over Italian Lorenzo Sonego also gave him the family bragging rights. Thirty-one years ago Shelton's father and current coach Bryan lost 10-8 in the fifth set to Christian Bergstrom in the last 16 at Wimbledon in what proved the high-point of his Grand Slam career. Shelton junior, who has previously reached the semis at the Australian and U.S. Opens, was a little ragged as he dropped his first set of the tournament, but the powerful left-hander found his length and attacked the net more in a dominant second set, and then raced through a third-set tie-break. Shelton, 22, who beat Sonego at the Australian and French Opens this year, completed the hat-trick after a superb final game to break, roaring in triumph.

Teenager Andreeva sets up Wimbledon quarter-final clash with Bencic

LONDON :Russian seventh seed Mirra Andreeva powered her way into her first Wimbledon quarter-final with a 6-2 6-3 win over American 10th seed Emma Navarro on Monday, becoming the youngest player in the last eight of the women's singles since 2005. The 18-year-old looked at home on Centre Court, using her booming serve, regularly above 110 miles per hour, and power from the baseline to book a meeting with Swiss Belinda Bencic in the next round. In doing so she matches the feat of compatriot Maria Sharapova in 2005 at the exact same age - 18 years and 62 days at the start of the tournament. With a light breeze swirling around the showcourt, Andreeva took an early break in the match thanks to a fine backhand past her 24-year-old opponent who was looking to reach a second successive quarter-final at the All England Club. Navarro struggled to return the Russian's serve, with Andreeva not giving up any points on her first serve throughout the first set. The American surrendered another break by hitting into the net from a fierce Andreeva forehand for 4-1. Navarro saved two set points but Andreeva converted the third courtesy of another unreturnable serve, taking the lead in the match after little more than half an hour of play. The second set brought an upturn in form for Navarro as the pair traded breaks and continued to slug it out from the baseline. However, Andreeva held on to a break advantage over her opponent and executed a beautifully weighted lob on her way to bringing up three match points. The teenager needed only one thanks to a fortunate net cord but had obviously lost track of the score as she lined up at the baseline again before apologising and running to the net to shake hands with her beaten opponent. "Honestly, I kept telling myself I was facing break point and was trying to tell myself I'm not the one who is up on the score, I'm the one who is down and in the end I completely forgot the score. I happy I did it, otherwise I would have been three times more nervous on my match point," she said on court. "I felt like my serve was not bad today... happy that (coach) Conchita (Martinez) gives me nice advice and my serve keeps working," added Andreeva.

Ben Sulayem says F1 could have V8 engines as soon as 2029

Formula One could go back to using noisy V8 engines with fully sustainable fuel by 2029 at the earliest, according to FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem. The sport is entering a new engine era next season but the head of the governing body suggested last February that a return to the naturally-aspirated V8s or V10s was being considered after that. The V8 engines were last used in 2013, before the current 1.6-litre V6 units. "The current engine is so complicated, you have no idea, and it is costly," Ben Sulayem told reporters at the weekend's British Grand Prix. "R&D is reaching 200 million (dollars), and the engine is costing approximately 1.8 to 2.1, so if we go with a straight V8, let's see. "Many of the manufacturers produce V8s in their cars, so commercially it's correct. How much is it? You drop it. The target is more than 50 per cent in everything." Ben Sulayem said the V8 engine would also have significant weight advantages and the sound would be welcomed by both nostalgic fans and the new generation. "To us, the V8 is happening. With the teams now, I'm very optimistic, happy about it. FOM (Formula One Management) are supportive, the teams are realising it is the right way," he said. "We need to do it soon... you need three years, so hopefully by 2029 we have something there, but the fuel is also very expensive, and we have to be very careful with that. Transmissions are very expensive." Ben Sulayem also spoke about the possibility of a Chinese team filling the final 12th slot, something he has mentioned before, and said he still felt the sport needed more cars rather than more races. "The time will come when we feel it is right to open an expression of interest," he said of filling the 12th slot. "We are not here to upset other teams. It won't be just go and do it for the sake of doing it. It has to be worth it for us. The team has to add value to sustaining the business of Formula One." General Motors' Cadillac brand is due to become the 11th team next season, a slot won after initial resistance from the other teams and Liberty Media-owned Formula One.
