NI family make appeal to find ‘gentle giant' who has gone missing in Greece
The family of a Co Derry man abroad in Greece have described their worry, having not had contact with him in 10 days. Limavady man Aaron Fryer – who was described by his family as a 'soft-natured gentle giant' – had been travelling around Europe teaching English as a digital nomad. During his travels, the 28-year-old travelled from Serbia to the Greek city of Thessaloniki on July 30 and intended to stay there for a month. However, he was last heard from on August 5, prompting his aunt Debbie Caskey to contact police. 5G mast torched in west Belfast arson Speaking to the Belfast Telegraph she said: 'There is a Facebook page for him up at the moment to help find him. 'We least heard from him 10 days ago, which is extremely out of character for him. His two best friends would talk to him every day, and so would I. 'Aaron is digital nomad, he travels around Europe and teaches English via a computer. He is six-foot-five, a gentle giant. He is just a lovely person, very kind, caring and soft natured. 'When we last spoke, we were probably talking about football and how work is going, how my day was going since we are out in Spain at the moment. 'I am very worried, his father is deceased, his mother is very concerned. 'He had come to Greece via Serbia, where he attended a Greek Orthodox church. I have contacted Greek police. 'It is just so out of character for him not to contact us, his phone just goes to voice mail, there is nothing on social media from him.' Aaron is described by his family as being six-foot-five with a strong stature. He has brown hair and may or may not have a beard, and he has no tattoos. "Police received a report on Saturday, 9th August that a man aged in his 20s was believed to be missing in Greece,' said a PSNI spokesperson. 'The matter has been referred to Greek authorities and our officers will assist with any enquiries that may be needed in Northern Ireland. We continue to liaise with the man's family.'

Cat found in van travelling through Bristol and Cardiff
RSPCA Cymru is now appealing for information to help reunite the black-and-white male cat with its owner. The cat, who is said to be friendly, but has not been microchipped, was found on Friday, August 8, by a van driver who had travelled through the Bristol area and Cardiff that day. He was taken to the RSPCA Newport Animal Centre, but despite enquiries, the charity has been unable to trace his owner. Sian Burton, RSPCA animal rescue officer, said: "This is quite the mystery. "Unfortunately the finder of the cat didn't leave a contact number so we've not been able to contact them further about this, so we really are struggling to find more information about where he came from. "We really would like to reunite him with his owners, who must be very worried that he has not come home." Staff at the Hartridge Road centre have affectionately named the cat Elio. The cat has been affectionately named Elio (Image: RSPCA) He is said to be doing well at the centre, but the RSPCA is keen to free up space for other animals in need, as it continues to prioritise cases of cruelty and neglect. Ms Burton said: "If you are able to help us identify this cat and track down his owners, please call our appeal line number on 0300 123 8018, quoting 01600165. "We would love to reunite him with his owners." The RSPCA is using the case to remind pet owners of the importance of microchipping, which greatly increases the chances of a lost animal being returned home. Pet owners are urged to register their pet's chip with a national database and update their contact details if they move or change phone number. More information on microchipping and animal welfare advice is available on the RSPCA's website. The charity has also launched its Summer Cruelty Appeal, calling on the public to help fund its work rescuing animals, providing treatment, and offering care to those in need. Donations can be made through the RSPCA website.
