Reigning Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen snapped Oscar Piastri's three-race winning streak in the ongoing season by winning the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix in Imola, Italy on Sunday. And with his latest triumph, the Dutchman emulated a feat achieved by the legendary Michael Schumacher.
The defending four-time world champion finished the race 6.1 seconds clear of Lando Norris, who beat McLaren teammate and current championship leader Piastri to the second spot. Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton profited from two safety car interventions to finish fourth after starting 12th on the grid while Williams' Alex Albon completed the top five.

Charles Leclerc finished sixth in the second Ferrari ahead of Mercedes' George Russell. Carlos Sainz (Williams), Isack Hadjar (Racing Bulls) and Yuki Tsunoda (Red Bull Racing) finished eighth, ninth and 10th respectively.
Verstappen thus won his second race this year, after triumphing in the Japanese Grand Prix ahead of Norris and Piastri last month, and the 65th of his F1 career that completes a decade this season. His latest win, which lifts him to the third spot in the drivers' standings with 124 points, also comes in Red Bull's 400th Grand Prix race.
Verstappen equals Schumacher's record
In the process, the 27-year-old equalled seven-time world champion Schumacher's feat of 116 podiums for Ferrari during a 10-year run with 'The Prancing Horse' from 1996 to 2006.
While the German F1 legend raced for four different constructors, Verstappen has been part of Red Bull for a majority of his F1 career, having begun his career in the elite division of single-seater racing with Toro Rosso in 2015. All of Verstappen's podium finishes, however, have come in Red Bull's colours.
Only Hamilton has secured more podium finishes for a single constructor (153 for Mercedes) than Schumacher and Verstappen.
'Thank you everyone for a great job today and on Saturday,' said Verstappen said after his victory in Imola. 'It was a great weekend.'
Piastri and Norris too congratulated Verstappen after what is only the second race of the season to not have either McLaren driver standing on top of the podium.

'I braked too early. But it was a great move by Max and then we had a few wrong calls so it was not one of our best Sundays,' Australian racer Piastri, who leads the driver's standings with 146 points, said.
'Congratulations to Max. We couldn't match him this weekend,' added Briton Norris, who's second on the table with 133 points.

WATCH: James Anderson plays first T20 in 11 years, records career-best figures in T20 Blast
After moving on from his legendary Test career last year, English pace ace James Anderson returned to T20 cricket for the first time in 11 years with his career-best haul in the format on Sunday. Anderson, who signed on a one-year county contract after his Test retirement as the highest wicket-taking pacer with 704 scalps, made his return to the T20 Blast against Durham. Making an instant impact with his ever-snappy action, Anderson accounted for the Durham top-order whilst registering his best T20 figures. The 43-year-old removed openers Graham Clark and Alex Lees within the first overs before returning to dismiss Dutchman Colin Ackermann in the 11th over before finishing up with 3/17 in four overs in Lancashire's eventual four-wicket win. International duties historically restricted Anderson's availability for Lancashire. However, in the bid for his final Test season last year, Anderson turned up for Lancashire and secured figures of 7-35 in his sole 2024 Championship outing. Prioritising his rich hauls in Test cricket for the most of last decade, Anderson made his final ODI appearance in the 2015 World Cup and never appeared in a T20I after 2009. Enjoy every ball of Jimmy Anderson's 3/17, on his return to the Vitality Blast 🌹 — Vitality Blast (@VitalityBlast) June 2, 2025 While he had made the transition to a brief consultant mentorship role for the England men's bowling unit, Anderson had insisted on giving T20 and franchise cricket a go, believing he still got the gears to deliver in the competitive format. This was Anderson's first T20 appearance since August 23, 2014, when he played for Lancashire in the T20 Blast final against Warwickshire. That match went against the sprit as the England legand leaked 52 runs in four overs as Lancashire lost by four runs. In total, Anderson has played 45 T20s in his career for Lancashire and England, taking 44 wickets at an average of 30.34, with an economy rate of 8.36 runs per over. Anderson made his first IPL auction appearance during the 2025 Mega Auction last year, but he found no takers in the two-day event. 'I know for a fact that my body has got a certain amount of deliveries left in it. Once that goes, I'll no longer be a bowler. But as long as my body allows me to bowl, I will see myself as a bowler. And other people can see me as whatever they want to see me as. I don't care,' Anderson had recently said in a Guardian interview, insisting that he wants to keep going with the ball.

Oscar Piastri says Spanish Grand Prix 2025 win was just what he needed
Formula One championship leader Oscar Piastri said winning Sunday's Spanish Grand Prix was just what he needed after losing out to McLaren teammate Lando Norris over the previous two weekends. 'It's been a great year and this weekend's been exactly the kind of weekend I was looking for,' said the Australian after his fifth win in nine races. 'We executed everything we needed to when it counted and that's all you can ask for. The team gave me a great car once again. It's a lot of fun winning races at the moment.' The victory, the seventh of the 24-year-old's career, stretched Piastri's lead over second-placed Norris to 10 points after the Briton reduced it to three with his triumph in Monaco last Sunday. Norris also finished second at Imola, the race before Monaco won by Red Bull's Max Verstappen, with Piastri third. The Australian led from pole position in Spain, the top slot on the grid secured by the biggest margin of the year so far, after also topping the practice times at the Circuit de Catalunya. 'It's definitely up there,' Piastri said when asked whether it was his strongest yet in Formula One. 'I don't know if it's the best one, but certainly it's been a strong one. You know, it's pretty hard to complain with the results we've had this weekend. Norris, winner of two races this year so far, said he did not feel he had lost anything. 'I think Oscar drove a very good race today and had a good day yesterday. I had the pace to go with him but not enough to try and catch up and put him under threat,' he said. Related Topics Oscar Piastri

'Sky's The Limit' For Frances Tiafoe At French Open
Frances Tiafoe believes the "sky's the limit" for him after reaching the French Open quarter-finals for the first time on Sunday. The American downed German world number 66 Daniel Altmaier 6-3, 6-4, 7-6 (7/4) in the last 16 to set up a match with Lorenzo Musetti for a semi-final place. It will be Tiafoe's first ATP quarter-final since finishing runner-up at a low-key event in Houston in March. "It's been horrible. I've been travelling around, and it hasn't been fun at all," he said. "Kind of faced it. After that it gave me space to just play. You know, when I can play, I can play. This is not really something that's like a shock. "When I'm playing well, I'm there and present and having fun, I think the sky's the limit for me." The 27-year-old, who has reached at least the quarters at the last three US Opens, is yet to drop a set in Paris and is confident he can go even further. "I've been the super dark horse. I don't think anyone is really thinking that I was going to even be in this position," added Tiafoe. "But at the same time, I don't really look at it like house money. "Now that I'm here, I'm like, 'Let's win'. I was having dinner yesterday. I'm like, 'Yeah, feeling great, but let's keep winning'. There's nothing more fun than winning. "Once I get my feet going and matches under me, I'm dangerous. Then I'm feeling really good, and I'll play anybody." Tiafoe, seeded 15th at Roland Garros, has five wins over top-10 players at Grand Slam events. "If you look at the guys in front of me, I'm much more comfortable playing the guys around me and ahead of me than the other guys," said Tiafoe, who is yet to drop a set in the tournament. "I'm much more reliable, and week to week -- I don't lose to those guys week to week. I lose to everybody else. "That's not really my concern, playing the best guys in the world. I don't fear them. I don't really feel like their level is so much better than mine." (Except for the headline, this story has not been edited by NDTV staff and is published from a syndicated feed.)
