Addressing the media on the occasion of 11 years of the Narendra Modi government, Khattar said that a new experiment is being done and will be rolled out once feedback is received. "A new experiment in temperature standardization is being conducted in the direction of energy conservation. Under this, the AC temperature will be limited to a minimum of 20 degrees and a maximum of 28 degrees," he said.
The power minister said that the standardised temperature in India is still lower than that of Italy and Japan. "In many countries, the minimum standardised temperature is higher than that of India. In Japan, it's around 26-27 degrees while in Italy, it's 23 degrees. However, in India, we have kept it at 20 degrees and that too with much hesitation (fearing backlash from people)," said Manohar Lal Khattar.
The power ministry said in its report that the Minimum Energy Performance Standards Air Conditioners, Ceiling Fans, and Refrigerators have been upgraded in the country to help reduce electricity bills.
Union Minister Manohar Lal said that it is the government's goal to make power accessible to everyone and at all times and the government is aiming for 100% electrification of households across the country. He declared that India has become power-sufficient meeting all its power demands and is well on the path of becoming a power-surplus country.
He shared that India successfully met its peak power demand of 241 GW on 9th June, 2025. He stated that in an unprecedented feat, India added its highest-ever generation capacity of 34 GW during 2024-25, with renewable energy accounting for 29.5 GW. The nation's total installed capacity now stands at 472.5 GW, up from 249 GW in 2014. He also shared that India's national energy shortage has drastically reduced to a mere 0.1% as of April 2025.

He further stated that India's clear assertion of sovereignty over critical technologies, announcement of National Critical Minerals Mission, focus on nuclear energy, unveiling of Mission Sudarshan Chakra, bold tax and legal reforms, PM Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana and National Deep Water Exploration Mission -- with other far-reaching reforms and measures -- will triple India's domestic hydrocarbons production to 85 million tonnes by 2032. The Petroleum Minister further pointed out that energy security had long been the Achilles' heel of India's growth. For decades, hesitation and 'no-go' classifications throttled exploration and deepened import dependence. Under PM Modi, India has reduced 'no-go' areas for Exclusive Economic Zones by almost 99 per cent, freeing 10 lakh sq km for exploration and production (E&P). "Coupled with Open Acreage Licensing Policy (OALP), this has opened a vast canvas to Indian champions and global majors alike — our hydrocarbon basins will no longer lie dormant but be harnessed for national progress," the minister wrote. The National Deepwater Exploration Mission, announced from the ramparts of the Red Fort, sets an ambitious frontier agenda in the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea. It aims to unlock 600-1,200 million metric tonnes of oil and gas reserves through the drilling of nearly 40 wildcat wells. For the first time, India will systematically open up its complex offshore frontiers — from the Bay of Bengal to the Arabian Sea — with a framework that de-risks investment by allowing recovery of up to 80 per cent of costs in the case of dry wells, and 40 per cent upon commercial discovery, he added.

The two agreed to keep close contact, with Modi reaffirming that 'India has consistently called for a peaceful resolution of the Ukraine conflict and supports all efforts in this regard". Putin also called Brazil's Luiz Inacio da Silva on Monday to share information about the Alaska meeting, according to a statement from the Brazilian president's office. During the call, the Russian leader 'acknowledged Brazil's involvement in the Group Friends for Peace' on Ukraine, which also includes China. Putin had spoken with Modi, Lula and China's Xi Jinping, the founding members of the BRICS group of major emerging-market economies, earlier this month before his meeting with Trump, news agency Bloomberg reported. The timing is particularly interesting. Within hours of the call, external affairs minister S Jaishankar met with Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi, who is on his first visit to India in three years. The Trump administration has slapped a 50 per cent tariff on Indian exports over its purchases of Russian oil, a move that could cripple sectors dependent on overseas markets, Bloomberg reported. India's strong ties with Russia India's refusal to stop buying oil from Russia reflects decades of partnership, from Cold War defence deals to today's trade. India has largely stayed neutral on Ukraine, refusing to align with Washington's sanctions-heavy approach. Signals of thaw with China If Moscow is a steady partner, Beijing is the wild card. India-China ties hit a low point after a bloody border skirmish in 2020 at Galwan Valley. But recent months have seen signs of fence-mending: Beijing has loosened curbs on urea exports, New Delhi has reinstated tourist visas for Chinese nationals, while a growing number of Indian businesses have been seeking partnerships with Chinese companies for deals including technology transfers, Bloomberg reported. Trump's tariffs on both countries' exports, as well as threats to penalise India for buying Russian oil, are adding urgency to normalise ties, it added. Cabinet approves ₹8,308 cr 6-lane Bhubaneswar Bypass to ease city traffic
Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) on Tuesday approved the construction of a six-lane, access-controlled Capital Region Ring Road (Bhubaneswar Bypass) in Odisha under the hybrid annuity model (HAM). The total project cost is ₹8,307.74 crore, a PIB release said. Why the project matters Currently, the stretch from Rameshwar to Tangi on the existing National Highway faces severe traffic congestion. Heavy traffic flows through urban centres such as Khordha, Bhubaneswar, and Cuttack, causing delays and higher logistics costs. To tackle these challenges, the new highway will be developed as a six-lane access-controlled greenfield corridor, which will help in diverting heavy commercial vehicles away from city centres. This will improve freight efficiency, reduce transport costs and drive economic growth in Odisha and neighbouring states. Connectivity The bypass will link with three major National Highways — NH55, NH57, NH655 — and one state highway SH65, providing seamless connectivity across Odisha. It will also enhance multi-modal transport by connecting with: • One major railway station (Khordha) • One airport (Bhubaneswar) • One proposed Multi-Modal Logistics Park (MMLP) • Two major ports (Puri and Astrang) The corridor connects 10 economic nodes, including SEZs, mega food parks, textile and pharma clusters and fishing clusters, as well as four social nodes in aspirational, tribal and LWE-affected districts. Boost to regional economy After completion, the Bhubaneswar Bypass will strengthen trade, industrial development and connectivity between major economic and religious centres. It is expected to generate 7.443 million person-days of direct employment and 9.304 million person-days of indirect employment.
