Veteran comedian Joey Daud is back at his best and this time he is turning it on with his new single 'WamWamSam' which was officially launched in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday (May 20).
And it is indeed a special collaboration as the song is done under the tutelage of his mentor, Malaysian music legend Datuk M Nasir , and on top of that, it is an experimental collaboration of a song that has a mix of comedy, pop rock and rap.
But the song, which has been produced by Nasir's record label Luncai Emas Sdn Bhd, is also a very meaningful one as is tells the youth the importance of education and why knowledge can make a person to be more confident in his/hers path of life.
At the launching event, Joey also announced that the 'WamWamSam' song will be the OST (original sound track) for his new movie 'Daud M'.
Nasir said he is not surprised that Joey is so adept in his acting and also brilliant as a singer even though it has been more than two decades since he made his last single.
"No surprises, really," said the music legend Nasir during the press meet after the launching event.
It is also noted that Nasir was also the person who brought Joey into the industry after seeing him perform at a singing competition in 1994. For a time, Joey even became top group Exists' vocalist after Ezad Lazim left the group.
"It is more of a coming home event for Joey. He is back where he started. You know his first ever single was with our group. But the path for artiste is always challenging yet exciting.
"While Joey cut his teeth as a singer first, but, he has made his name as a comedian. And I think he is having a great run as a comedian and all of us have always been happy for him," said Nasir.
"But the team felt for Joey's new movie, he should try to be the singer he was with a new single.
"And it is an experimental track which Joey decided to go for it after much discussion. I'm glad he took the step to be a singer again as I always felt he is a splendid singer as well as a comedian."
"WamWamSam" was also officially launched in YouTube on Tuesday under the 'Luncai Emas' channel. It will also be available in all other digital streaming channels including Spotify from June 6 onwards.
For the 51-year-old Joey it was a labour of love which is now a reality. The idea and composition was started by Joey but it became the fruit he desired thanks to the help younger and more vibrant composers.
The song became the experimental track Joey wanted when he received the much needed-assistance from Luncai Emas composers - Ilham Nasir and Hidayat Nasir (M. Nasir's children) - that gave the song the rock vibrancy and unique sound that it needed.
"This song, the character, the idea and also the message - is all from my personal experience of my life. Even the character is actually of my classmate that I knew from school," said Joey at the launching event.
"And I always wanted a message of education in my song. Education is the most important aspect of a young man/teen life. Young people must understand that.
"I hope this song will be one that stick in the mind of youngsters in a long time to come. It is also a labour of love and I thank all these talented youngster who had played a big part in making this single a reality."
The song is further strengthened with the inclusion of rising star A.D. who puts in a superb rap effort that gives the song an extra bite and a major pull for the young listeners. For the record, A.D. is a member of the Sabah hip hop group, Isohbatos, an upcoming band that is making waves in the Borneo side of Malaysia.
As for the video for the song, it is directed by Amen Khalid, the son of the late and legendary director Mamat Khalid, who in fact, had included Joey in his movies.
"This song is fun but the message is strong and I do hope it strikes a chord with the young music lovers. It is a very special project that brings out the fun in life but at the same time has education has its central theme," said Joey.
"And that is my parting message for this song - you have to be confident in taking up challenges of life but at the same time ensure yourself to be well-educated. Because with education, the best of it, you can be confident of anything.
"And I'm bringing this message for all in my own fun and comedic way. But the subject is very important, education matters and it is very important for all the upcoming generation. That by far, is the underlying theme of this single," added Joey.
At the launching, the team behind the new single, are also hopeful that the new generation will enjoy the nostalgic feel of the music video and the relevance of the message it harbours for the young generation.

The portal is aimed at supporting the B40 group among Johor's Indian community. The crowdfunding initiative was launched by Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, Queen of Malaysia, at the Zarith Sofiah Opera House, accompanied by Her Highness Che' Puan Mahkota Khaleeda Johor. YSR chairman Datuk said crowdfunding was a proven model in other countries, and the foundation hoped to adopt it to supplement its existing resources. 'We receive an allocation of RM1mil annually from the state government,' he told StarMetro. The 'Meniti Cakerawala' performance featuring Dr Mazlan (centre). 'Through crowdfunding, we hope to get at least 1,000 people to contribute RM100 each, so YSR can raise RM100,000 by December 2027. 'While we are grateful for the state government's support, it is still not sufficient to cover all expenses for our charitable activities and programmes. 'We also do not want to depend on the state government, so we are encouraging those capable from the Indian community to donate funds.' Sugumaran also extended his appreciation to Her Majesty and her daughter-in-law for gracing the event and supporting the foundation's cause. The launch was attended by over 500 guests, mainly Indian professionals based in Johor. Ramli (right) with dancers in the performance. #SHOWBIZ: Cantopop King Jacky Cheung is superb at 64

THERE is a famous song by The Beatles, 'When I'm 64', about a man "growing old, losing his hair and becoming forgotten". Hong Kong's foremost Heavenly King of Cantopop, Jacky Cheung Hok-Yau is 64 this year but he's living proof of a rebuttal to that image. The dashing gentleman, known for both his superb showmanship and his down-to-earth personality, feels younger than ever and is as celebrated as he was when he first began his four-decade career. SIX NIGHTS Cheung entertained Malaysian fans for three hours in Axiata Arena, Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur on Aug 16 in his six-night 'Jacky Cheung 60+ Concert Tour'. The legend sang 30 songs and kept 15,000 fans singing and swaying along to his beat. He sportingly interacted with them with funny, nostalgic and heartwarming nuggets of wisdom. The singer's first hit, 'Retain This Moment', saw him in a black suit and top hat, accompanied by scenes of a calm sea. He danced effortlessly alongside a dozen ballet dancers and appeared to be having great fun. Cheung's energy level rose a few notches higher in 'Oh La La' which saw him dance around a car, and by the time he belted out 'Street Hero' and 'Can't Help Falling In Love', everyone had begun to sway in their seats. Dressed in dark-coloured suits, Cheung wiggled his hips in most of his moves, making female fans scream "Jacky, we love you!" He then delivered a jazzy song, 'I Should', and 'Waiting For You Until My Heart Hurts' that featured a music video of him with Taiwanese actress Shu Qi. MEMORIES Cheung said: "How are you ladies and gentlemen? "I'm so happy to be back in Kuala Lumpur tonight, for I have lots of fond memories here. "I was rather tired when I arrived here, but I had a good rest and am reenergised." Cheung introduced his six musicians to roaring applause, before singing 'Deep Sea' which featured ballet dancers "prancing underwater", and 'Three Days Two Nights' with a trapeze artist gracefully swinging above him. The jazzy number 'Let's Call It Off' saw Cheung backed by a 30-member orchestra. Cheung once again donned a hat and danced deftly between his dancers, Latin American style. 'Double Trouble' saw Cheung in a makeshift version of London in the Swinging 60s. He energetically danced with men in bowler hats and women dressed like Eliza Dolittle of 'My Fair Lady'. STRINGS Ballerinas in luminous dresses took centre stage in 'Love Letter', plus a skilled harpist and four string intrumentalists. They were joined by a pianist for 'I'm Really Hurt', and Cheung introduced them, revealing a few Malaysians. "Do sing along with me as much as you can, ladies and gentlemen," said Cheung. "I love singing, I will sing as long as I have the strength, for singing makes me feel youthful." Cheung revealed that he first sang when he was five and entertained his family during birthdays and weddings. "My childhood friends spent me a good meal when I entertained them," he said. Cheung's 13th song 'Only Love Lasts Forever' sounded enchanting, like a wushu drama song. The guests sang along to his soaring chorus, and Cheung praised his female fans for doing a good job. "Ladies, you sing well tonight. Why so shy, gentlemen?" teased Cheung with a smile. The big screen revealed scenes of London in four seasons, and Cheung magically walked into them and interacted with the people. This song was 'Let The Street Lights Rest At Sunrise', and his gestures reflected the nice guy that he is. Fans loved 'After 10 Years' which took them on a pictorial journey down memory lane. The big screen showed various photos of Cheung during his childhood, teenage years, early years as a singer, and recent concerts. 'The Weather Is So Hot' was preceded by a computer-generated image of a bumblebee in flight, accompanied by the legendary piano piece 'Flight Of The Bumblebee' by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov. Here, Cheung welcomed back the 20 ballet dancers and waltzed effortlessly between them. DANISH Cheung became a cartoon character for 'Split The Wine', and in the animated music video, he interacted with cute Hong Kong characters. Tchaikovsky's 'Dance Of The Sugar Plum Fairy' introduced 'Love In A Moment', which also featured the luminous dancers and the orchestra. After four sentimental ballads including 'Love Through The Years' and 'A Thousand Reasons For Heartbreak', Cheung burst into fast-paced 'Allergic World' about celebrating diversity. And before his ended his concert, Cheung delivered "sad" songs including 'I've Waited Till All The Flowers Wilted', 'Your First Name My Last Name', and 'I Secretly Love You', before transitioning into happy tunes — 'A Never Changing Heart' and 'Messy Hair'. Cheung ended his evening with 'The Goodbye Kiss', his best-known anthem famously made into 'Take Me To Your Heart' by Danish rock group Michael Learns To Rock. It was Cheung's 10th solo concert, encapsulating his reflections on life and music.
