It's one of the highlights of my year, and this year, I turned 30 in Hillsborough Park, but one performer made me forget I was actually on the planet for their set, says Daniel Bird

Tramlines Festival was back for yet another incredible year, but one set left me completely blown away. Each year, bosses at the festival always pull in the biggest names, which baffles me as I always think the previous year can't be beaten.

This year, however, was extra special; there were two local acts headlining the Sarah Nulty Main Stage – one, I didn't even think was possible, but somehow, bookers managed to secure them. Each year, I attend Tramlines with a group of friends, and we always have the best time, whether that's grabbing food or a drink en route to Hillsborough Park and supporting local businesses, or this year, finding ourselves in a rather lively pub afterwards, with hundreds packing inside in a bid to keep the electric atmosphere going.

2025 was no different. Local legend Jarvis Cocker and his Pulp headlining on Friday, certainly setting the weekend up for us. It was Pulp's 571st concert since the band launched in 1987, and you could have easily believed it was their first. Jarvis' energy was off the scale when he burst onto the stage, showcasing some of his best dance moves.

It was their second festival of the year, after Glastonbury, and they certainly didn't disappoint. From explaining that most of their tracks were written either in Sheffield or about Sheffield to throwing grapes and chocolate out to the crowd (I'm sad I didn't get the Fudge or the Twirl), they delivered arguably one hell of a performance.
Taking to the stage with Spike Island, the atmosphere in the crowd instantly switched, and everybody became friends; there were no arguments or pushing, just 40,000 people embracing every moment. Hearing Sheffield: Sex City live for the first time since 2012 was certainly an experience. Although I'm not from Sheffield, I've called it my home on and off since 2017, and everybody could relate to some part of the song when Cocker called out various areas of the city.

Disco 2000 instantly saw the energy in the crowd switch, 40,000 people jumping in the air, belting out every lyric; it was as though we had somehow found ourselves in The Leadmill on a Saturday night. Meanwhile, Common People saw a completely different aspect that none of us could have expected, fellow local legend Richard Hawley joined Pulp on stage, with the crowd erupting into cheers.
Day two, Saturday, saw a string of huge musicians, including Natasha Bedingfield, Heather Small, Lucy Beaumont, Rizzle Kicks, The Reytons, and Franz Ferdinand taking to the various stages. I was quite lucky to see Natasha chilling backstage before her set, and she was, as expected, rather lovely. Her performance didn't disappoint. Although she was on earlier in the day, she drew in one of the biggest crowds I had seen from a non-headliner on the Main Stage.

One aspect of day two I have to talk about is Heather Small. It was an out-of-body experience. Standing in the front row, with thousands of people packed into the T'Other Stage, was something else. Her energy was off the charts, and she performed her biggest hits, including Proud and Movin On Up.
My friends and I were instantly taken to another world during Heather's set. I can't find the words to explain it, but she just has this magical aura about her, on and off stage. I was lucky to catch up with Heather after her performance, which you can read later in the week. I walked away extremely calm and relaxed. She gave me a hug, and it felt as though I'd been in hours of therapy with just that one hug. Even my friend couldn't believe the calmness that radiated from Heather.

Earlestown band The K's also performed on the main stage, just one day after the release of their second album, Pretty On the Internet. Having seen the lads live and worked with them a few times, I knew that fans in the crowd would be in for a treat. There were mosh pits, people on shoulders, all belting out the songs, including Gravestone and an acoustic performance of Hoping Maybe. I
I was lucky enough to catch up with the lads, Jamie Boyle, Ryan Breslin, Dexter Baker, and Nathan Peers, just before they performed, which you can read here. They're also on track for their first-ever Number One album.

Elsewhere on T'Other Stage were Rizzle Kicks, who I forgot had so many bangers. The tent was completely packed, with thousands getting down with the trumpets. One thing that struck me was the bond between Jordan and Harvey. The duo stopped performing in 2016 due to Harvey's anxiety, something that Jordan mentioned on stage, and I can't lie, it was quite emotional seeing the deep connection between the two.
Their set was nothing short of incredible, such a wild atmosphere, and I can't lie, I'm glad they weren't on the main stage. There was something about the atmosphere in the packed tent that just added an extra layer of excitement to their performance.

Meanwhile, Rotherham's own, The Reytons, headlined the main stage, and they didn't disappoint. Opening with Red Smoke, the deep guitar riffs and bass made the ground of Hillsborough Park tremble. Frontman Jonny Yerral's vocals could have been heard in Clifton Park. I've followed the lads for several years now, and to say they're an unsigned act, the music industry is missing out, but I think it works well for them.
Kids Off The Estate saw Hillsborough transformed into Disneyland, with pyrotechnics galore, the lads didn't disappoint, and I genuinely believe that they're going to be even bigger than they already are. I mean, they have just announced a Wembley Arena show, which is proving my point already.

But it was time for a much-needed break, so I snuck off back to the comfort of Hillsborough Stadium's backstage area, where the festival bosses put on a spread from local restaurant, China Red. We feasted on fried rice, spring rolls, chow mein, and spiced chicken, which is what I would call the best food there is. I also turned 30 on the Saturday, which was, in my opinion, the best way to do it. Backstage, friends who work at the festival ensured I'd be celebrating properly, with a cake, candles, and a bottle of prosecco, which went down a treat.
Although day three of a festival is normally a bit of a slower pace, Scouting For Girls opened the day for me. I've been friends with lead singer Roy Stride for a couple years now and seen the band several times and they never disappoint and Tramlines was no exception.

Performing hits including Posh Girls, She's So Lovely, Elvis Ain't Dead, and around thirty seconds of James Bond, the crowd instantly found themselves jumping up and down as they also filmed a music video with the crowd, so that was very exciting. Barnsley-based band The Sherlocks also delivered an epic set.
This included a very brief tribute to the late, great Prince of Darkness, Ozzy Osbourne, with lead singer Kiaran Crook belting out "I'm going through changes." But a last-minute decision meant that the women's Euros were played on the main stage, with Chloe Kelly's winning penalty instantly seeing drinks thrown into the air as we all leapt with happiness as football finally came home.

The energy continued right through Kasabian's headline set, as they walked onto the stage with Freed From Desire blasting out. Frontman Sergio Pizzorno ensured that nobody was standing still as he belted out tracks including Club Foot, Shoot the Runner, and You're In Love With A Psycho.
Having seen Kasabian live several times since Serge took over as the frontman, I can hand on heart say, it should have happened sooner. His performing abilities are something else. As the encore came to a close with Fire, he made sure the crowd was involved, with everybody blasting out the lyrics, despite many of us no longer having a voice after three days.
In my opinion, it was the best decision to have Kasabian close the weekend. The rocky tones of the band and Serge's gentle yet feisty approach to performing make them one of the best bands. If Kasbian headlined every year, I'd be quite happy with that decision. Although luckily for Tramlines, I don't do their artist bookings, so I think they're safe.

Former singer Kerry and her glamour model icon Katie have appeared on dozens of reality shows over the course of their careers and now, they've set their sights on their daughters following in their showbiz footsteps. ‌ It comes as no surprise that the daughters of two of the most recognisable women in the nation have allegedly been flooded with offers in the past to appear on various shows and now, Kerry admits it's something she's keen for her daughter Heidi to do, alongside Katie's daughter, Princess Andre. ‌ While Princess has bagged her own reality show, which Katie has spoken openly about, Kerry admits that she would love to see Heidi and Princess appear alongside one another on a completely different show. It comes after Katie Price worries fans with appearance in family photo after explaining weight loss. ‌ The two stars met on I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! in 2004, of which Kerry won, she hopes that the pair will one day find themselves in the jungle together. "I'm desperate for ­Princess and Heidi to do the Jungle together, imagine," Kerry said. In a joint interview with The Sun, Katie added: "I always say Love Island. Heidi and Princess need to do it together." ‌ Kerry commented: "The way I see it is, forget management, forget fame, what an amazing memory, what an ­amazing adventure. So I think if Heidi goes to Love Island for three months and has the best time then that's amazing." Meanwhile, she added that while people may be quick to criticise their children for being "nepo-babies", she admits that everybody has a contact, somewhere. She commented: "I can open a door for you. Whether you get through that door and you stay through it, that's on your own f****ing merit. You don't see Brooklyn Beckham playing f****ing football, because he's sh*t." But Heidi isn't the only one of Kerry's daughters that she's encouraging to appear on Love Island. ‌ Speaking to the Mirror, she previously said: "Do Love Island make a sh*t load of money, Lilly!" Meanwhile, Katie has opened up about Princess's upcoming show. Speaking to her sister, Sophie, on their podcast, she said: "Princess is now officially an adult so mummy and Princess can now go out together. If certain people would let her be seen with me. "Everyone knows she's doing this documentary - and I'm not in it. Certain people don't think it's good for Princess to be seen with me. Certain people that used to look after me." ‌ "You aren't on brand, Katie. You are too risky, Katie, that's why," her sister retorted. "It's pathetic. I'm her mother," Katie snapped. "It's so sad," she lamented. "When certain people who used to look after me are now looking after..." Katie was then cut off by her sister Sophie, who encouraged her to "save it for another day." The MailOnline reported that dad Peter Andre and his wife Emily will be featured but Katie will be taking a back seat. A source said: "Katie will not be in Princess's show, the decision has been made and it's final. Princess loves her mum, and they have a great relationship, but the show is all about her work and home life. "Television bosses were adamant that nothing was to be 'staged' to include Katie as it would not be a real and truthful insight into her life." The show will follow Princess up to her turning 18 in June.

Queen's 'great, great, granddaughter' seeks DNA test and approval from Charles

Much has been made of Queen Victoria's relationship with her ghillie John Brown - now a woman who believes she is their descendant wants to prove the affair was real. A woman who reckons she might be the illegitimate great, great granddaughter of Queen Victoria says her ultimate aim is to get acknowledgement from King Charles. ‌ Angela Webb-Milinkovich, from Minnesota, believes she and her sister have ancestry that traces back to Victoria's lengthy, passionate affair with her devoted servant John Brown. ‌ Fresh research by historian Dr Fern Riddell indicates that whilst officially Angela's great grandmother Mary Ann was the sole child of John's brother Hugh and his wife Jessie, there's proof suggesting the infant might actually have been born from his secret romance with the monarch, during which they were clandestinely wed. ‌ Angela, 47, is now preparing to undergo a DNA test as the definitive evidence of her Royal bloodline. She insists she has no desire to profit from the tale, solely wanting to ensure her family's position in history receives the acknowledgement it merits, reports the Mirror. ‌ "My main goal is to have the story acknowledged - I want their relationship to be recognised and for the royal family to stop saying it didn't happen," she explains. "If I'm going to reach for the top, it would have to be from King Charles," she adds, when asked who she'd most like to hear from. "I mean, it's a great story and it has his family involved, too. So he would be interested in it." Or Prince William perhaps? ‌ "That'd be great. That's acceptable," she laughs. Angela was raised believing her family descended from royalty through baby Mary Ann. She can't recall exactly when she learned this, only that there was a tale about "a big boat trip... and a baby given to the family." ‌ Dr Riddell reached out to Angela during her four-year investigation for her new book Victoria's Secret, revealing she'd found that childless couple Jessie and Hugh had sailed to New Zealand in 1865, recording Mary Ann's birth there shortly afterwards - which could account for the maritime journey. Speaking on Channel 4's accompanying documentary, Dr Riddell suggested that the widowed Victoria could have easily hidden a pregnancy during the 1860s, then had the infant - her tenth child - secretly transported to the opposite side of the globe to prevent scandal. Records show that in 1874, Victoria funded the family's return voyage to Scotland, even providing them with a substantial residence on the Balmoral estate. Following John's death, she also relocated Hugh's family to Windsor to be closer to her. ‌ Angela managed to grant Dr Riddell access to a wealth of new evidence from the Brown family archive, which contained items and documents that have been in their possession for decades. Some of this came from a safety deposit box that Angela and her sister, who wishes to remain anonymous, opened about five years ago following their father's death. "We didn't know what we had, just that they were items from John Brown and Queen Victoria," she now admits. "It was always something in the back of our minds - we should probably get these looked at." ‌ Despite longstanding family suspicions that they were related to Queen Victoria, Angela was still taken aback when Dr Fern reached out. "I believed my family was being truthful with it, but we could never prove it. Once she sent that message, I thought 'What the heck? Is there actually validity to this?'" Angela, who is employed as a mental health care worker, expressed her desire for the love affair, which was concealed both during and after Victoria's lifetime, to be recognised as the truth. "It's something that I'm very proud of," she declared. ‌ "I want the vindication essentially for John Brown and just for my lineage, because they were not able to talk about it. It was something that just became that secret that we couldn't really share, but we knew." If Dr Riddell's account is accurate, and there's substantial evidence backing it up, Victoria and John shared a passionate romance spanning nearly two decades, right up until his passing in 1883. Beyond exchanging mutual declarations of love on his deathbed - "I told him no one loved him more than I did and he answered 'nor you - than me'" - she had also created a cast of his hand, precisely as she'd done for Albert. When her own end came in 1901, she requested to be interred with a lock of hair and photograph of the man who'd stood beside her for twenty years following Albert's demise in 1861. ‌ Letters that survived show her addressing him as "my beloved" and "darling one". Yet, at the behest of her eldest son Bertie - poised to become Edward VII - the Palace began systematically wiping John from history. Victoria's diaries were transcribed and altered, with the originals being destroyed. ‌ Bertie, who had frequently feuded with Brown, also commanded that the statues and private monuments Victoria had erected in his honour be demolished. Angela's grandfather passed away when she was in primary school, but she recalls him being distressed about the Browns' erasure from history. "My understanding from my Mum was that he was just really upset and bitter about it," she shared. "He didn't like to talk about it. Now, having both my parents and my aunt gone, we don't have those resources any more. So the bulk of the story I have been learning from Fern, which is amazing, and I'm so grateful." Angela remains hopeful that the Royals will eventually have to acknowledge the legitimacy of the claims made about her ancestors, as highlighted in a Channel 4 documentary aired on Thursday. "My gut says it's going to have to get acknowledged at some point," she suggests. ‌ "Scandals are always very exciting so I'm sure there'll be a lot of questions for them to answer. If they don't say anything, that's their choice. But I'd like them to acknowledge the truth of this love, to recognise that it wasn't cool to cover up and destroy evidence of the relationship they shared. Let's be real, Bertie was a bit of a d**k to the Browns. "That story deserves to be known, to have its own breath out there in the world. You don't get that kind of romance every day. It's what you'd hope for anybody, that you would find another chance at love. So I don't see why we should look down on that. It's like an opportunity presented itself and they embraced it, and I think that is beautiful." ‌ Angela is hopeful of undergoing a DNA test to confirm her lineage, but has been cautioned that it might take a while due to the necessity for impeccable source material for testing across four generations. "I'll let the scientists do the science," she says with a smile. "I'm a supporting character in this journey, and so I will follow wherever the story leads me. I'm totally open to it. So far it's been so exciting, so cool. I'm just really stoked." The tattooed American, sporting a nose-ring, firmly denies that she's merely attempting to profit from the Royal family's wealth. "Money is the furthest thing from my goal in telling this family story. It has always been to get Queen Victoria and John Brown's story the truth it deserves." ‌ She can't fathom any other reason why her family would possess valuable keepsakes from Victoria and John, including a brooch and a lock of hair. "Their relationship was authentic and genuine. They obviously had feelings for each other. It went well beyond a queen and man servant situation." There was a fair amount of speculation at the time about the duo, portrayed by Dame Judi Dench and Billy Connolly in the 1997 film Mrs Brown. In 1865, after Victoria requested John's transfer to the Royal Household at Windsor, two of her daughters, Helena and Louise, openly referred to him as 'Mamma's lover'. ‌ And the following year a Swiss newspaper published a story claiming Victoria, then aged 46, had privately married John and become pregnant. Angela would be delighted regardless of whether Mary Ann proves to be John or Hugh's daughter. "Either John Brown is my great, great uncle or he is my great, great grandpa. My family still played a key role in history with their friendship and closeness to Queen Victoria. I'm proud of their steadfastness in keeping the legacy of John Brown alive and their word to holding the secret close. It's still a beautiful romance that deserves its moment of recognition in history." With her Scottish heritage through her mother's lineage, Angela adores visiting the UK at every opportunity and confesses she occasionally feels more British than American. "I've always felt a little disconnected in the sense that I feel more at home over there. Scotland is my happy place. I would move there if I could, for sure."

One Diversity star made a quick cameo in Bonnie Blue's new Channel 4 documentary in the form of a throwback photo Diversity star Ashley Banjo made an unlikely appearance in Channel 4's new documentary about adult film star Bonnie Blue's life. The adult star became one of the most controversial figures on the internet after encouraging "barely legal" teens to sleep with her in X-rated content she films and profits from, and her content continues to become more and more extreme. ‌ A new Channel 4 documentary, titled "1,000 Men and Me: The Bonnie Blue Story", was recently released and has exposed the often lonely reality of earning millions of pounds while being ostracised. During the documentary, dancer Ashley appeared in a form of a photo where he was seen with his arm around a younger Bonnie. ‌ The photo appeared while the porn star's mum discussed her passion for dance when she was younger. Ashley's name wasn't mentioned in the segment but the picture was clearly showed her past love of dance. It comes after one Mirror writer claimed 'the new Bonnie Blue documentary may be the worst thing I've ever seen on Channel 4'. ‌ Her mum also reminisced about the time Bonnie and her then dance partner won a runners-up trophy in a dancing competition. During the documentary, viewers hear from Bonnie's ex-husband Oliver Davidson for the first time. She revealed it was actually Oliver, or Ollie as he's known to Tia, who encouraged her to move into sex work. ‌ "I met Ollie when I was like 14, 15," she explains in the show. "We got married really young. Pretty, quite intimate wedding, nothing crazy, nothing over the top. Then we relocated to Australia shortly afterwards. "Ollie was beyond supportive, he gave me the confidence to do OnlyFans. And it wasn't because he wanted to pimp me out, he just wanted me to be happy and have control of my life. And obviously the money was good as well." Her ex gushed about Bonnie's sex stunts with the public and even said he's proud of her and her work. He said: "She really connects with the fans. ‌ "Most people, if they do porn, they seem out of reach. You're never going to meet them. You're never going to be able to film with them. "Whereas Bonnie puts a location online, and then obviously her fans can actually film with her. It's like a defining moment in porn, where she's completely changed the game." ‌ In a recent interview, Bonnie explained why things didn't work between the couple. She told the Daily Mail that they broke up some time before she moved back to the UK from Australia in 2024, and that Ollie returned before her. Bonnie also discussed her fears after admitting she last went out by herself six months ago as it is "not that safe". 'I get 100s of death threats a day, so it is not that safe when I walk around," she said. "I say, 'It is going to happen at some point, someone will come and give me stick' and fair play to her, at least they are getting up off their sofa. My worst one is acid, if someone did acid, and I could see some spiteful girl doing that.'
