Heriot-Watt University Dubai Receives Full Accreditation from UAE Ministry of Higher Education
After two decades of leadership in the UAE's higher education sector, Heriot-Watt University Dubai has announced that all of its current academic programs, including both undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, have received initial accreditation from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research through the Commission for Academic Accreditation.

Speaking on the occasion, Professor Dame Heather McGregor, Provost and Vice Principal of Heriot-Watt University Dubai, said, 'Over the past eighteen months, we have worked with the CAA on the federal accreditation of our current undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. The granting of Initial Programme Accreditation for all 71 programmes is a significant milestone for Heriot-Watt University Dubai.'
'Furthermore, this achievement reflects our commitment to academic excellence, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance. It has been a complex yet rewarding process, made possible by the dedication of our faculty, staff, and colleagues across our global network. With this accreditation, our graduates can seamlessly pursue further degrees at CAA-accredited universities. It also enhances their opportunities to work in government and government-related sectors across the GCC and the MENA region. We are grateful to the CAA for their collaborative approach in supporting our efforts,' she added.

The Commission for Academic Accreditation (CAA) is an agency under the UAE federal government responsible for quality assurance in the higher education sector. Its aim is to assure students, their families, employers, and other stakeholders that licensed educational institutions and their programs meet academic quality standards aligned with international best practices. Moreover, the accreditation of programs reaffirms Heriot-Watt University Dubai's commitment to delivering high-quality British education to students in the region, following its initial institutional licensure from the UAE Ministry of Education in 2023.
Pioneer in Dubai's Academic City
In the United Arab Emirates, Heriot-Watt University Dubai was the first British university to establish a campus in Dubai's Academic City. Additionally, it began its educational journey with three programs and 120 students. Today, it hosts over 5,000 students and is recognized as one of the top British universities in Dubai, known for its focus on business management and its extensive network within the industry. The university continues to prepare its students by equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and practical experiences required by the job market, aiming to enable them to achieve excellence in their careers at both regional and international levels.

Commerce and sports ministers participate in roundtable on Saudi-British sports cooperation
Saudi Gazette report LONDON — Saudi Minister of Commerce Dr. Majid Al-Qasabi has affirmed at the Saudi-UK Strategic Partnership Council that Saudi vision 2030 launched by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman transformed the Saudi economy and created promising opportunities in many vital sectors. He explained that the Saudi-British partnership is unique, and the UK is the second-largest exporter of services in the world. He added that the two countries can cooperate to establish a global integration system that covers many aspects of sports, tourism, culture, arts, and technology, all of which have become a global language that requires no translation. The meeting was also attended by Saudi Minister of Sports Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki, and Sir Chris Bryant, UK's Minister of State for Creative Industries, Arts and Tourism. The roundtable, organized by the National Competitiveness Center in cooperation with the UK Department for Business and Trade, focused on introducing companies to the promising opportunities offered by the Kingdom's hosting of international sporting events, such as the 2034 World Cup. It also addressed opportunities for cooperation in areas supporting the sports sector, such as technology, infrastructure, construction, facility operations, and planning and execution of major events. In a meeting with Jonathan Reynolds, Minister of State for Business and Trade, which was attended by Prince Khalid bin Bandar, Saudi Ambassador to UK, and Neil Crompton, British Ambassador to the Kingdom, Al-Qasabi discussed enhancing cooperation in developing the sports sector in light of Saudi hosting major events such as the 2034 World Cup. They reviewed the progress of initiatives emerging from the economic and social committees of the Saudi-British Strategic Partnership Council, including developments in the negotiations of the Free Trade Agreement between UK and the Gulf Cooperation Council countries. During the meeting, the two sides highlighted the importance of the Saudi-British Future Skills Initiative and its impact on developing skills in sectors of mutual interest, in addition to the continuation of the Great Futures Initiative for 2025. The Saudi delegation's agenda on the first day included a field visit to Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and its facilities. The delegation was briefed on the facilities' capabilities and experience in hosting entertainment and sporting events. The participating entities in the visit included the ministries of Commerce, Sports, Investment and Finance, the Supreme Committee for Hosting the 2034 World Cup, the Public Investment Fund, the National Competitiveness Center, the Saudi Business Center, the National Center for Privatization, and a number of major national companies specializing in sports events, infrastructure, and media. Al-Qasabi arrived in the British capital, London, on a working visit, accompanied by a delegation comprising officials from nine government agencies and 30 leaders from the business sector and major national companies. The visit aims to build economic partnerships in the sports sector between the two countries, strengthen relations across various priority sectors, and raise the level of commercial partnerships.

The British travel platform Wanderlust has selected Diriyah as one of the Global Eco-Friendly Destinations for 2025, according to the Saudi Press Agency. This remarkable recognition was driven by the successful cooperation between the Saudi Tourism Authority and the Diriyah Gate Development Authority. Both entities have submitted a comprehensive nomination featuring Diriyah's extraordinary initiatives in environmental, cultural, and tourism sustainability. Chief Executive Officer and Board Member of the Saudi Tourism Authority Fahd Hamidaddin stated that this recognition reflects Saudi Arabia's dedication to ensuring sustainability in tourism. 'This recognition stands as a testament to our strategy of empowering local partners and showcasing national destinations in international markets,' Hamidaddin added. He also noted that this achievement further strengthens the Kingdom's position on the global tourism map as the fastest-growing destination in the world. Daily Telegraph to be sold to US firm RedBird Capital
LONDON — American buyout firm RedBird has agreed a deal to take control of the Daily and Sunday Telegraph after a two-year ownership vacuum. RedBird Capital will buy the stake owned by UAE's Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Sultan al-Nahyan who had bankrolled an earlier bid. That bid was rejected by the previous government, which passed a law preventing foreign governments owning British newspapers or news magazines. The current proposed deal will need regulatory approval. Both Telegraph titles and the Spectator magazine were put up for auction by Lloyds Bank, who seized them from the Barclay family for non-payment of outstanding debts. In a bold but ultimately unsuccessful move, a consortium of RedBird and Sheikh Mansour's IMI paid off the Barclay brothers' debts in full hoping to shortcut the auction process. However, the fact that the consortium was almost entirely funded by IMI saw the government intervene and prevent it taking majority ownership. It is thought that IMI will retain a minority stake of less than 15% in the two papers. Meanwhile, the Spectator was sold to hedge fund billionaire Sir Paul Marshall last year for £100m. The BBC understands the purchase price will see RedBird IMI get its money back in full. It brings to an end a two-year limbo period which the Telegraph staff found unsettling and left them concerned that sufficient investment and direction was lacking. RedBird founder Gerry Cardinale told the BBC he has plans to expand the Telegraph's reach and subscriber base in the US, believing there to be a gap in the market.
