': Indian contract manufacturers are intensely competing in large-scale smartphone assembly, aiming to secure additional orders from Chinese brands that seek to broaden their manufacturing presence in India amidst shifting global dynamics.
Chinese brands, experiencing growth and starting exports from India, are broadening their supply chain networks to maintain cost advantages rather than depending on a single Indian supplier as the smartphone production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme approaches its end.
Motorola, owned by Lenovo and previously relying exclusively on Dixon Technologies, has begun allocating some production to Dixon's competitor Karbonn, another PLI-eligible manufacturer.
Motorola remains Dixon's primary customer, with projected volumes of 12 million units in FY25, according to an ET report.

The Indian smartphone sector remains at around 150-160 million units yearly. Industry observers note that increasing competition could restrict local companies' expansion, with Dixon particularly vulnerable to losing production volumes to competitors.
The available market for contract manufacturers stands at 80-90 million units annually, excluding Apple and Samsung's independent supply chains in India.

Initially, Dixon was the sole Indian firm claiming PLI benefits, as others struggled to secure clients. However, recent years have seen firms like Karbonn, Micromax, and Lava becoming PLI beneficiaries. These organisations could potentially claim government incentives alongside Dixon upon achieving specified targets.

Longcheer, Dixon's second-largest client and a Chinese ODM (Original Design Manufacturer), which contributes 7 million units to Dixon's FY25 production, has begun shifting approximately 2% of its volume from Dixon to Karbonn since May, aligning with its Indian expansion strategy.
In a June 24 report, Phillip Capital indicated that Karbonn's handling of Motorola's production volume increased significantly from 5% in January-February to 25% in April-May.
The shift in Motorola's supply chain corresponds with increased sales and exports from India to the US, following the implementation of substantial tariffs on China by the Donald Trump administration.
An industry analyst informed ET that Motorola's monthly operations have grown from Rs 2,400 crore, previously managed entirely by Dixon, to Rs 3,000 crore, with the additional Rs 600 crore being assigned to Karbonn.
Longcheer is also strengthening its Indian operations to safeguard against potential restrictions on Chinese exports.
According to the aforementioned analyst, Longcheer's production in India could swiftly rise to at least 15% of its total volume, as there was no exclusive arrangement with Dixon.

Dixon's market share faces competition from Bhagwati Products Ltd (Micromax), which has established a joint venture with Chinese ODM Huaqin.
This partnership affects Dixon's potential revenue from its strategic Vivo manufacturing facility in India, according to Phillip Capital's analysis.
"(Dixon's) Management expects the JV to handle two-thirds of Vivo India's mobile phone volumes. Assuming a proportional volume-to-value ratio conversion, the JV would generate a topline of Rs 160bn at optimal utilisation, of which Dixon's share would be Rs 80bn," the report said.
The Bhagwati-Huaqin collaboration has achieved production levels of 1.6 million smartphones monthly, with operations commencing in the second half of 2024.
"Bhagwati is one of the fastest-growing EMS players in India. They are projected to close June at 1.6 million units per month, and are aiming for more market share. This rapid ramp-up has occurred within a year, primarily from Oppo and Vivo under the partnership with Huaqin," an industry executive familiar with the situation was quoted as saying.

Longcheer produces handsets for Vivo and Realme via Dixon, and Vivo and Oppo through Karbonn. Meanwhile, Huaqin collaborates with Bhagwati for Vivo and Oppo devices, whilst partnering with DBG for Xiaomi production, according to the analyst.
"I foresee the market having space for at least 3-4 players in the coming years, instead of just one as the ecosystem grows. The volumes will be commanded by players which can offer the desired quality of service.
Cost comes secondary," one of the executives said.
Dixon leads in Android device production volumes, whilst Foxconn and Tata Electronics produce iPhones for Apple, which is experiencing rapid growth. Apple's iPhone production reached ₹1.48 lakh crore ($17.5 billion) in 2024, showing a nearly 46% increase.
Apple's supplier network is projected to achieve $30 billion in yearly production in India by year-end.

The initiative is designed to bridge industry practice with academic insight, driving innovation and fostering future-readiness across the power value chain. The collaboration also facilitates the IIMK to invite experts from Tata Power-DDL to its global conclaves and thought leadership events, and for both organisations to jointly pursue consulting and simulation assignments. The MoU will remain in effect for five years and signifies a long-term partnership dedicated to innovation, sustainable practices, and skilling for the power sector.

Noida: The Allahabad high court has asked Noida Authority to execute flat registries at Grand Omaxe and Forest Spa projects in Sector 93B, paving the way for 220 families to finally get their property documents. The order came after the developer agreed to deposit an additional Rs 25 crore with the Authority in two weeks, making 50 more flats eligible for registry. The company had earlier deposited Rs 93 crore under the state govt's rehabilitation policy for stalled projects, which allowed 170 flats to be cleared for registration. The projects — comprising 1,692 sanctioned flats in total — had 678 pending registries among them. The issue first surfaced in 2018, when 30 Grand Omaxe allottees approached the high court, alleging they were denied tripartite sub-lease deeds despite paying the full amount because of the developer's unpaid lease premium. It clarified that if the developer deposited the full arrears with interest, the Authority could process applications for completion or occupation certificates of those additional projects. The case expanded when Forest Spa homebuyers — with their three towers and 176 flats — joined the litigation in 2021. Its AOA urged the court to hear their petition jointly with Grand Omaxe, saying both projects concerned the same developer and land parcel. A breakthrough came through UP govt's Dec 2023 order, which offered relief to stalled projects if developers paid 25% of recalculated dues. The developer's original dues of Rs 545 crore were revised to Rs 374 crore, considering a two-year 'zero period' during the Covid pandemic. After it paid the mandatory advance of 25% or Rs 93 crore, the developer unlocked permission to register 170 flats. During recent hearings, the developer insisted it was willing to pay the remaining dues so that flats in both Grand Omaxe and Forest Spa could be registered. On May 29, the court suggested an amicable settlement, following which the developer agreed to deposit another Rs 25 crore within a month. The Authority informed the court this additional amount would pave the way for 50 more registries. It told the court there would be "no impediment in granting occupancy certificates and other necessary permissions" for the two projects. The bench of Justices Manoj Kumar Gupta and Anish Kumar Gupta acknowledged the submission made by the Authority about the possibility of both projects being granted OCs within four weeks. The bench also ordered that any dispute regarding sub-lease entitlement must be resolved by the Authority CEO within a week. If homebuyers fail to complete formalities within two weeks of notification, the next person on the waiting list would get the opportunity, it clarified. "The list of homebuyers, along with the date of buyer-builder agreement or date of allotment provided by the developer, and the list submitted by the Forest Spa Association of Apartment Owners with names of transferees, successors, or joint owners, would be used for executing sub-leases," the court observed. The Authority must also file a status report by the next hearing, scheduled this month itself. This report will outline the progress of sub-leases and any remaining issues, ensuring that eligible homebuyers can secure legal ownership of their flats. That's where benchmarking shines - giving these brands the insights they need to stay expect not just speed but reliability. The difference between a repeat customer and a lost sale often comes down to the delivery benchmarking their performance against expectations can close gaps, improve first-attempt delivery rates, reduce returns and build loyalty. It's no longer enough to meet internal targets - the market is setting the bar. Research from Gartner shows companies using advanced analytics and benchmarking can achieve 20% faster delivery times and up to 25% cost savings by 2026. McKinsey adds that such companies see up to 20% higher customer satisfaction, fuelling repeat business and sustainable growth. Data alone doesn't ignite change. What moves teams is seeing what's possible: a 98% first-attempt delivery success rate, halving return rates and outperforming the competition. When we see tangible proof of success, it fuels our motivation to achieve even more.
