Project manager claims trial to 68 money laundering charges involving over RM688,000
R. Vikram Menon, 46, pleaded not guilty after all the charges were read to him before Sessions judge Awang Kerisnada Awang Mahmud here on Tuesday (Aug 12).
He is accused of transferring and disposing of illicit funds totalling RM688,916.85 between Oct 17, 2023, and Oct 15 last year in Damansara.
The offences allegedly involved 301 transactions to 67 bank accounts for fund transfers, and 159 transactions for online and cash disposals ranging from RM1,000 to over RM90,000.
Vikram Menon was charged under Section 4(1)(b) of the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001, which carries a maximum jail term of 15 years and a fine of at least five times the value of the illicit proceeds or RM5mil, whichever is higher, upon conviction.
Deputy public prosecutor Wan Nur Amanina Wan Din sought bail of RM80,000 for all charges with one surety.
The accused's lawyer, S. Kulasegaran, appealed for a lower amount of RM30,000, arguing that bail was intended to secure the accused's attendance in court and not to serve as punishment.
The court set bail at RM70,000 with one surety, and ordered the accused to report to the Sungai Buloh police headquarters at the start of every month, surrender his passport, and refrain from contacting prosecution witnesses.

Knife-wielding woman arrested after ramming motorcycles, hurting six in Kajang
KUALA LUMPUR: Police have arrested a 24-year-old foreign woman who allegedly drove recklessly, crashed into three motorcycles, and attacked road users with a knife in Bandar Kajang today. The suspect will be remanded tomorrow under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code to assist investigations. The case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years' imprisonment if convicted. Investigations are also being conducted under Section 279 of the Penal Code for reckless driving, which is punishable with up to six months' jail or a fine not exceeding RM2,000, and under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for careless and inconsiderate driving, which carries a maximum penalty of a RM10,000 fine and 12 months' jail. Naazron urged those with information about the case to contact the nearest police station or investigating officer Inspector Nursyaza Farhah Samhairi at 017-691 9817.

Year 2 pupil suffers facial fractures in alleged assault by schoolmates

(Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : A Year 2 pupil at a primary school in Kuala Terengganu sustained a fractured orbital bone and broken nose after allegedly being assaulted by a group of schoolmates on July 30. The incident came to light when the boy returned home at about 4pm with blood and bruises on his face. According to his mother, he was attacked by several pupils who held his arms and punched him in the face until he fell. 'I brought him to a private clinic, where X-rays confirmed the injuries. He was then referred to Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital in Kuala Terengganu,' Bernama reported her as saying today. The boy, the second of three siblings, underwent surgery this morning to repair the nasal fracture. His mother said this was not the first time that he had been bullied. In June, he suffered an eye injury after being hit with a rock, but no police report was lodged at the time. However, following the latest incident, she said she had decided to take legal action. The mother also said the school met with the parents of the pupils involved on Monday to discuss the matter. Kuala Terengganu police chief Azli Noor confirmed receiving a report, and said a preliminary investigation suggested that the incident stemmed from teasing among the pupils. Penang police warn against flag-related gathering in Kepala Batas
GEORGE TOWN: Penang police have advised the public against attending a gathering at a Kepala Batas hardware store tomorrow. The store recently went viral on social media for displaying the Jalur Gemilang upside down. Penang Police Chief Datuk Azizee Ismail emphasised the need to ensure public safety and order. He urged patience while awaiting further instructions from the Public Prosecutor's Office. Azizee warned that legal action would be taken against those disrupting peace or violating laws. A viral social media post had earlier invited the public to join the gathering. Azizee confirmed 38 police reports had been filed nationwide regarding the incident. Investigations are ongoing under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. The hardware store owner, Pang Chin Tian, admitted the flag mishap was unintentional.
