Keane seeking perfect Ascot start for Juddmonte

Newly-appointed to the role of retained rider for the Juddmonte operation, the six-time Irish champion jockey can expect to be busy all week, not only in the famous colours of the late Khalid Abdullah but also in demand with many other owners and trainers.
And the opening afternoon could prove a huge one, with John and Thady Gosden's Lockinge winner Lead Artist in action in the curtain-raising Queen Anne Stakes and stablemate Field Of Gold odds-on for what promises to be an epic renewal of the St James's Palace Stakes.
Keane will be riding Lead Artist in a race for the first time, after Oisin Murphy did the steering at Newbury.
He said: 'He was very good in the Lockinge. He feels like a very straightforward horse, a good mover who feels fit and well.
'It was the first time I had seen Lead Artist when I rode him last Wednesday and he looks a very straightforward type. He seems in great nick and I'll be looking forward to getting on him in the Queen Anne.'
Field Of Gold had to settle for the runner-up spot behind Ruling Court in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket, but made no mistake in the Irish equivalent. He meets the Charlie Appleby-trained Ruling Court once more, with Aidan O'Brien's Irish Guineas winner Henri Matisse adding further spice.
Keane said: 'Field Of Gold was very good at the Curragh. A stiff mile will suit him well and he's growing up in his races and feels very relaxed and straightforward. I couldn't have been more happy with what he did.'

Like Keane, Juddmonte's European racing manager Barry Mahon is hoping to see Lead Artist open the batting for the team in style.
'Our week gets off to a big start and he's in good form and has come out of the Lockinge well,' he said.
'He's reopposing a lot of the same horses and albeit some of them were having their first run at Newbury and could improve, we're hoping the track and ground will suit Lead Artist.
'He's a beautiful colt and a magnificent specimen and we're hopeful he will give a good account of himself.'

Gerwyn Price savours massive consolation prize after darts World Cup Final loss

The Iceman is back in the Grand Slam after he and Jonny Clayton make Final in Frankfurt Cheered-up Gerwyn Price celebrated a major consolation prize after the heartbreak of World Cup Final defeat with Wales. The Iceman and partner Jonny Clayton were sunk in a dramatic last-leg decider as the 2020 and 2023 winners failed to complete a famous hat-trick when losing 10-9 to Northern Ireland. ‌ However, in beating Netherlands in the last-four to make the Final, the Cymru pair both secured spots in November's Grand Slam of Darts. That's especially sweet for Price who admitted last year it hurt him badly to miss out of the showpiece event in Wolverhampton. ‌ Having been a three-time winner in 2018, 2019 and 2021, defeat in the qualifiers in Leicester last year saw him miss the tournament for the first time since 2015 and it stung badly. But Price's ticket for 2025 is now already booked and he said: 'That was one of my aims this week and probably why I played so rubbish in the semi-final, knowing that it would get me in the Grand Slam. Then I relaxed a little bit in the Final, but things didn't really seem to happen. Probably due to the pressure of these [NI] boys throwing treble twenties for fun against us and we were up against it. "We got it at 9-9. We gave ourselves a chance, but they were a little bit better than us and they deserve it.' Price and Clayton was hugely gracious in defeat to Josh Rock and Daryl Gurney having played their part in an epic contest and simply being outdone in the thrilling shootout. Missed chances in a key 13th leg turned the tide of the Final. The former World champ , who sat out the tournament 12 months ago, said: 'I mean, we started off really slowly and we were trying to get into the game. It was really difficult. But we got ourselves in front. I think the leg to go 8-5 up was a crucial leg for us. And then we find ourselves 8-7 behind. But testament to the Irish team, Josh was scoring unbelievable. "We probably couldn't keep up with him. Last leg, I banged a 180, I thought: We got him back. Then he hits a 177 and I'm like: Oh, yeah, fair play. Gave him a high five. At the beginning of this tournament, I predicted Wales-Ireland final. I just predicted we would win. But fair play to them. They were fantastic.' Clayton echoed his partner's sentiments of congratulations to the Irish and admitted he was delighted to have his old sidekick back in harness. He said: 'Fair to Josh and Daryl. That last leg, oh my God, didn't they get off the blocks. We got it back to 9-9 and tried our best. Gezzy carried me, to be fair. I struggled starting off. "We gave it all. We get on great. It's nice to see him back in Germany! To be fair, he's just classy. I'm a proud man to be a captain here and to have a team-mate like this, oh, my God, awesome.'

He said: 'When we said we are paired together we'll win it. We didn't expect to do it, but we did it. 'As a team we were fantastic. We fought hard all the way through.' Gurney added: 'Firstly congratulations to Wales. They showed their class. Jonny and Gezzy, absolute legends of the game. 'Josh had the power-scoring and I just had to clean up the finishing. 'I hope I don't get a fine for this but every time I went for double five a wee bit of poo fell out! 'I was never going to miss double eight. I have never been so proud of this man and myself.' Northern Ireland made a storming start and Wales were lucky to only be trailing 3-2 at the first break. Jonny Clayton then hit a wonderful 142 to draw it level. But Rock was in inspired form, hitting 180s for fun, breaking the tournament record of 20. However, Price hit tops to break throw and Wales still hadn't missed a dart at a double. Then Rock delivered a cool tops to live the game again at the second break at 5-5. Yet again Clayton nailed the double at first attempt and then a double six put them in command at 7-5. But a double 18 and double eight from Gurney put the Irish back in front. Gurney then delivered a cool double 14 and now they were just one leg from glory. But they missed four title darts and Clayton hit double 16 and it went down to a decider. Rock then hit a crucial 171 and Gurney finished it with double eight.
