Album Spotlight: Adonis

Lebanese alt-rock group Adonis reflect on their journey and the making of 'Wedyan', a highly personal, introspective album shaped by personal and regional turmoil.
Jun 27, 2025
More than a decade since they first came together, Lebanese alt-rock group Adonis still hold onto the ethos that shaped their early years, making music that speaks to their own experiences, on their own terms. Their latest album, 'Wedyan', stays true to that spirit while revealing a more introspective and deliberate side to their sound.
The lyrics move between personal reflection and broader social realities, touching on the challenges facing Lebanon and the region. At times, the record settles into a kind of stillness. There's space in the arrangements, a quiet confidence in the writing. The melodies remain familiar, but the mood leans more somber. Even so, there are moments where the band pushes outward, lifting into sweeping, anthemic choruses.
In this interview, Adonis reflect on the long path that led to 'Wedyan', and the shifts that have shaped how they write and perform today. They speak about touring the album with no fixed expectations, starting in Abu Dhabi, then Riyadh, Cairo, and beyond, where each city offered a different kind of reception. These songs weren't built for immediate recognition, and that, in many ways, was the point.
'Wedyan' doesn't try to make a statement. It's a document of a difficult time, grounded in feeling rather than ambition, resulting in one of the band's most thoughtful and exploratory releases yet.
